So on the island part of RE4, they weren't shooting guns and throwing grenades at Leon?

@Sift

nobody is claiming that Gears of War is the only franchise allowed to have those features, but they are the fucking guys who made them work.

capcom even went as far as saying that they were inspired by the Gears franchise and tried to mimic it.

if you really think that this game is being original by copying the styles of gameplay that have come before it, you are only lieing to yourself. even though RE is an older franchise than GoW, it clearly has taken a direction which copies one of the most successful franchises in recent history.

@sift

and to add onto my last comment, capcom did not invent the third person view, nor the over the shoulder aiming system.

so anything that you claim RE4 revolutionized is a load of crap

I think Capcom is allowed to take a page from Gears when Cliffy B himself said RE4 inspired GoW. It seems like a nice little nod between friendly developers, which they tend to do. Not "ZOMG Capcom is copying a clearly more successful product to steal all its thunder."

But hey, since RE4 didn't invent the over the shoulder camera, what game did?

further clarification: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6167213.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0

"Bleszinski said the seeds of Gears of War were sown by three titles. The first was Capcom's Resident Evil 4, which made an indelible impression on Bleszinski even before its January 2005 release. "I really liked the pacing and the over-the-shoulder view," said the designer."

I'll be making a game and take out all of the features and putting them on a separate budget. Therefore that can be justified as a DLC. Woot.

Really? You would think you guys are the poorest people on this earth. It's 5 bucks for Christ-sake. And it adds game mode that have never been present in a RE game before. And it actually looks quite fun. That's defiantly worth some change I can find under my couch.

I understand your point but honestly the game mode doesn't seem that bad and it's not that expensive. It also keeps the servers payed for and other useful things. You spend ALMOST as much for Rock Band songs. 2 song = 4 bucks? Come now. Street Fighter IV costumes are prized high too yet no one complained about that. Why is a new game mode getting so much heat? It doesn't make since to me. I do understand your point and it would seem like it should just be patched but I'm willing to give them a little leeway considering I've never seen this kinda game mode for Resident Evil.

Mister Bogus, have you considered that Capcom might actually make DLC levels? I mean, I'd drop a bit of cash for an extra mini-campaign like the Assignment Ada or Separate Ways.

Since this DLC is above and beyond the initial scope of the game I can expect more playable characters than are available in mercenaries mode right? right?

No, I assume they will just be claiming that when a person changes their clothes, they become a NEW CHARACTER.

sigh

And characters should have different abilities. Wesker can run super fast and shit and it makes no fucking sense for Sheva to have the same health and be as strong as Chris. She should be faster and have less health, or shouldn't be able to crash some doors. And since Chris is pretty much a bodybuilder, he should be slower. Well, I think...

Why is everyone who says they are going to buy it being downrated? This isn't the first game to release DLC a few months after release.

If anything this versus mode sounds like a last minute thought, since its really doesn't belong in RE. Was a late addition to keep people playing their game. Does not sound like something that was on the disc.

And while Versus isn't needed, Slayer sounds like horde mode, if it is im interested.

You'd think developers would learn from the Burnout Paradise model on how free content will extend the life and sales of your game, not too mention the good will effect it has with the gaming community.

What's funny is that to make this DLC successful Capcom needs to do one simple thing... Yet chances are they won't.... All they have to do is modify the controls for Versus for it to be more standard and it will become a hell of alot enjoyable and successful. But they won't... Because they're too stupid to think of it or they act like it's too much work. I doubt it's too much work since most PC games let you modify controls to almost anyway you want.

Which is another thing about console gaming. WHY THE HELL DONT CONSOLE GAMES LET YOU MAP YOUR CONTROLS THEY WAY YOU WANT?!??! IS IT THAT DAMN HARD?!

christ none of you understand how businesses work do you?

they finished the game, sent it for review ... after that they decided to work on the vs. mode, and since they already made the game 'gold' they cant modify it.

if you wanted it to be included on the disc you probably would have to wait at least another month or 2, probably more.

drop your purse, stop fucking being a baby and either dont buy it, or buy it.

if you are a TRUE resident evil fan then the controls dont limit the game one bit, if you didnt grow up playing RE ..... well then your too young to get it ... sucks for you.

Maybe that's why it's available as extra content?

"the could've released it for free"
Thanks for supporting my thesis, that everyone is complaining simply because it's not free.

I don't think they will allow infinite ammo, they'll probably just let you use the semi-balanced weapon sets from Mercenaries.

But man, complaining about a game you enjoyed enough to play through it 3 times? That's not really a bad game in my book.

I'm not sure I have the same outlook as everyone who is mad the DLC costs money. When I buy a game, I'm essentially buying a set of bulletpoints. 20 hours of game play, 2 player co-op, unlockable/upgradeable weapons, Mercenaries mode, etc. Yes, I know there are other factors that can't be summed up in bulletpoints, but hell, if it's not worth $60 without multiplayer, just wait for the game to drop to $55 or less. They even let us know it was going to happen before we all ran out to buy it.

But it is online multiplayer, multiplayer being the key. When it comes out for sale not a lot of people will buy it, which means nobody will be out there to play with if you did buy it. Games with built in multiplayer don't even get that much of a following unless they are big budget games known for their multiplayer.

You realize this is a Japanese company we're talking about. I'm not sure if they understand multiplayer like the west does. I agree, it probably should have been free, but we'll see what happens after a few weeks.

Well... I guess I better come out and say it... Im sooo buying this! No joke, I have been waiting for this ever since I heard about it and so have my friends. The game itself already has amazing replay value, this just opens up that replay value even more! I might not be too thrilled about going up against another player (think about it, its run, then stop, then shoot, and the person thats going to live is going to be the one that stops first) but other than that I think its going to be quite fun.
Who cares if its $5!? Its just 5 messly dollars for crying out loud, and I think its worth it, if you loved the game, then buy it.

i thought there would be split screen options to both of these modes, which would be worth the $5 to me to be able to play with my roommate, but as it stands, there being only online options, and from what it seems very weak ones at that, it doesn't really seem worth it.

i'm not so much bummed that i wasted $5, as i was looking forward to something that i should've played a little more attention to what it was and got excited for no reason.
