I wonder tho, this apparently doesn't include the novels or comics? And what about Halo Wars?

Good question. The article says "everything in the Halo universe" but then only mentions the games "up until Halo 3: ODST." A bit of a contradiction, there, since the games aren't the entirety of the Halo universe.

If the encyclopedia is going to include EVERYTHING in the Halo universe (including books, comics and Halo Wars), then I'd definitely purchase it.

Yeah, it's very vague. Technically speaking, games "up until Halo 3: ODST" includes Halo Wars, unless it just means the Halo Trilogy.

Here's a piece of the press release I just found:

"New York, NY, and Redmond, WA, April 6, 2009. DK Publishing announced today that the company will publish the officially licensed encyclopedia to “Halo®”, one of the most successful video game franchises in history. The Halo Encyclopedia will be a comprehensive guide to the characters, weapons, vehicles, equipment, and locations from “Halo: Combat Evolved”, “Halo 2”, “Halo 3”, “Halo Wars”, and “Halo 3: ODST”. Created in full collaboration with Microsoft, the book, which is scheduled for publication in November 2009, will give fans unprecedented insights into the “Halo” universe in 352 full-color pages and it includes a Foreword by “Halo” franchise development director, Frank O’Connor. "

Looks like no books or graphic novels.

I would probably buy it. The info may be online, but you can't beat the layout and quality of the book.

If they are selling it at Borders then I'm just going to read in there. It's pretty cool how you can buy a cup of coffee, sit down in a quite area, and read a book without having to pay for it.

This seems kinda cool since I'm interested in the Halo universe and its backstory and lore, but really can't be arsed to read all of the novels.

Just read the comments about it not including the novels. Might not bother if that is the case.

I would recommend you read the novels. They are very well written. The best ones are the ones written by Eric Nyland. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Will the encyclopedia include a map of the galaxy with the locations of human and alien worlds and colonies?
