Jack Thompson takes his fight to Utah radio
Fueled by the recent veto of his Utah game bill and the constant thirst for more, Jack Thompson made an appearance on Utah radio show "Utah Eagle Forum" recently to discuss the merits of the bill and, well, to be Jack Thompson. Claiming the Columbine school shooting occurred due to "training on Doom" and saying the recent school shooting in Germany occurred due to the shooter's predilection for Counterstrike and Far Cry 2, Thompson immediately built a case for the audience to be concerned "why this is so terribly serious, to their own safety."
As GamePolitics points out, at no point in the show does anyone make note of Thompson's lack of an actual license to practice law or of his disbarring. He is, in fact, introduced as "an attorney from Florida." An odd omission considering the theme of the show is "Truth in Advertising."

I would love to hear the questions during Q&A!
hector88 @ Apr 7th 2009 4:38PM
I loved the second hour of that show when two people called in disagreeing with Jack and Maryanne. As soon as they started to make their point Jack and Maryanne would cut them off and basically never let them finish their point. I believe the second caller got muted half way through so Jack and Maryanne could continue their ranting.

The guy that shot up UTAH was a Muslim should we ban the Koran?
dabamf @ Apr 7th 2009 4:40PM
Looks like the Mormons need to get their facts straight.
bluerei @ Apr 7th 2009 5:41PM
And you brought Mormons into this for what reason? You're as ignorant as Jack Thompson's arguments.
dabamf @ Apr 7th 2009 5:51PM
It was just a Utah joke...not trying to be offensive, dang!
BigD145 @ Apr 7th 2009 6:59PM
I would have made a Mormon joke but you beat me to it. Instead I will say "Magical hat of golden plates that only I can read were real, but I losted them."
TonyTheTiger831 @ Apr 7th 2009 4:43PM
Not again. Doesn't Jack Thompson have better things to do? I still won't forget when he said Animal Crossing promotes animal abuse just because you can hit the villagers with a net.
rohan @ Apr 7th 2009 4:48PM
Jack Thompson occurred due to no condoms
joeybeast @ Apr 7th 2009 5:04PM
Aren't we all man... aren't we all.
acefondu @ Apr 7th 2009 4:52PM
It doesn't surprise me Jack went to Utah. That seems very appropriate.
Dirty @ Apr 7th 2009 4:56PM
That's it I moving to Rapture.
Markez @ Apr 7th 2009 5:16PM
I'm moving to Planet Funkatron.
AdamJZ @ Apr 7th 2009 4:57PM
Ugh... stuff like this makes me ashamed to live in Utah, still saving for Seattle...
SoulBlade @ Apr 7th 2009 5:02PM
training on doom?! you mean guns have auto aim in real life? was unaware..
DKiller79 @ Apr 7th 2009 5:11PM
I live in Utah and Jack should leave this place alone he's not a lawyer he been bard .
zuburi @ Apr 7th 2009 5:23PM
Does he carry a lute?
Courtney @ Apr 7th 2009 6:11PM
If Jack did all of his complaining in rhyme, I'd find him much more entertaining.
Josh @ Apr 7th 2009 5:16PM
It's unfortunate that otherwise decent citizens absorb the misinformation spread by flamebait political groups like this.
Myrrh @ Apr 7th 2009 6:00PM
i live in Utah and have never herd of this station, but i think i chanced upon it once, Its just the ramblings of some old bat. Not worth getting worked up over.
Josh @ Apr 7th 2009 6:02PM
But there are people that listen to it, and it's unfortunate.
Sora @ Apr 7th 2009 5:35PM
Dear Jack-off Thompson,
SHUT UP.
Love,
Sora
KeenCommander @ Apr 7th 2009 5:42PM
May I start a "anti-family" movement please?
Foetoid @ Apr 7th 2009 7:16PM
Or an Anti-Jack-Thompson movement? I'm waiting for some pro CS:S gamers to take him out for good IRL. Irony is bliss.
sonicspike41 @ Apr 7th 2009 9:12PM
Foetoid, that wouldn't really be irony would it?
I think if a gamer killed him, it'd be expected, considering how he talks of them.
Now, if he were killed by a bolt of lightning during some Anti-Game rally, that would be funny. A message from god?
bluerei @ Apr 7th 2009 5:45PM
I have lived here in Utah for many years and I have never heard of that radio show. Sure, family is very important here, but you also need to realize that Utah has one of the highest concentrated area of people who play video games in the entire nation with quite a bit of game companies located here as well. He might be trying to grab the side of families, but there are plenty of valid and educated gamers here to point out the flaws in his argument.
chonguey @ Apr 7th 2009 5:58PM
This Utah Gamer has a strung disgust for two things:
2 - Jack Thompson's video-game ambulance chasing and snake oil salesmanship.
1 - The Utah Eagle Forum, which is nothing more than a Mormon version of the a hard-line right-wing theocrat PAC (think Dominion Theology) that is seriously out of step with mainstream American culture and mainstream Utah culture.
That Jack Thompson and the Eagle Forum has found useful idiots in each other is not surprising. They are a right-wing authoritarian nut job match made in heaven.
Not content with deciding how to raising their own families, they seek to use the power of the government to tell me how to raise MY children all under then guise of protecting "families."
Theocrat jerk-offs: Please keep your "morals" out of American citizens legal rights, including people under the age of 18.
JT and The Eagle Forum people have nothing but disrespect for their fellow citizens.
bluerei @ Apr 7th 2009 6:00PM
"1 - The Utah Eagle Forum, which is nothing more than a Mormon version of the a hard-line right-wing theocrat PAC"
This is not the Mormon version as you said, because even Mormon gamers such as myself hate it.
They aren't out of step with the culture, this IS the mainstream Utah culture. I can tell you this because being born in AZ and living in many different states and countries, Mormons there are much different and have much different views than what this forum discusses. Don't attach Mormons to this forum when a large majority of us don't agree with their views.
chonguey @ Apr 7th 2009 6:12PM
" Don't attach Mormons to this forum when a large majority of us don't agree with their views."
Gayle Ruzicka is LDS, all the senior heads are LDS. So am I.
The Utah Eagle Forum is made up of hard-right wing LDS, plain and simple. No, it's not connected to the church in any official way, but the their political lens is (mis)informed by a fundamentalist, literalist, hard-liner approach to scriptural inerrancy and the unquestionable righteousness of their motives, no matter how pigheaded their actions may be.
Don't reflexively dismiss them as not "Mormon" because you or I don't agree with them and they don't represent mainstream LDS views. Just understand that they can be both simultaneously Mormon and an ignorant, regressive branch of religio-politicism that is out of step with modern, progressive Utahns of all stripes.
bluerei @ Apr 7th 2009 6:27PM
I never said they weren't Mormon, I am saying that these are the views in Utah culture regardless of religion. Utah is a family state, plain and simple. It's not Mormonism that drives this forum, but the overall culture of Utah and his own opinion on the matter. That's what I meant about not tying "Mormon" onto this forum because there are a lot more elements adding to his view points than the teachings of a religion, which most Mormons and Mormon gamers outside of Utah find extreme.
BigD145 @ Apr 7th 2009 7:01PM
I know I always train with a BFG9000 in video game land before bringing mine out of dustballs to go shoot up a school.
dabamf @ Apr 8th 2009 4:50PM
And you brought the BFG9000 into this for what reason? You're as ignorant as Jack Thompson's arguments. LoL! +1
Jeff @ Apr 7th 2009 11:33PM
Who gives a shit what Jack Thompson says on a radio show run by the Eagle Forum? Screw Phyllis Schlafly.
Bigfoot @ Apr 8th 2009 12:11AM
I don't get how someone can train on a game such as Doom.
Slaziman @ Apr 8th 2009 1:53AM
all you could really train are your reflexes, otherwise IRL shooting and Doom shooting are completely different.
Forrest @ Apr 8th 2009 1:57AM
As someone who lives in Utah and is a hardcore gamer, I find this just embarassing. I personally have never heard of this station and places like this in Utah are near dead. Jack Thompson is just doing his typical bullshit of trying to scare people into believing him and just happened to find people willing to buy into it.
ManekiNeko @ Apr 8th 2009 2:10AM
Pro-family movement? Blech. You'd think this WAS 1972 with slanted rhetoric like that. Besides, there are seven billion of us little germs on the planet already. I don't think it's wise to encourage even more procreation.
