Peruse, weigh in on extended Batman: Arkham Asylum footage
"Your impossibly enormous supercomputer and one of the only sources of light in this cave? Yes, I do believe I glimpsed it while dusting once."
"No, I mean this article on Joystiq. Computer, enhance RSS feed item, number 16. There. They claim to have new footage of an upcoming game based on me, Batman."
"Good heavens, Master Bruce! Do you mean to tell me you're Gotham city's masked protector?"
"Very funny, Alfred. This new Arkham Asylum game is supposedly very promising."
"You mean it's not just you prowling dark alleys and beating the snot out of some generic thugs?"
"Apparently not. It has elements of action and stealth, not to mention classic villains and iconic imagery. The blog authors say that Arkham Asylum is where I belong."
"Well, your propensity for manic vigilantism and outlandish costumes would --"
"In the game, I mean."
"Yes, of course, sir. In the game."

What's more fun than increasing traffic by having people comment about a video? Posting the video a second time and getting EVEN MORE TRAFFIC.

It's an extended version of the video...as stated in the title
ChooChooCharlie @ Apr 7th 2009 7:20PM
2 things:
- Ludwig's write-up is funnier.
- This one is "extended".
arrness @ Apr 7th 2009 7:20PM
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hah
missed that
WiredKnight @ Apr 7th 2009 10:37PM
Everybody's going to be pro at this level when the game comes out.
chip007 @ Apr 7th 2009 7:31PM
Wow. Just. Wow.
harvsorrow @ Apr 7th 2009 7:32PM
It looks fantastic. Wondering if it could get a little tedious.
And why are there so many gargoyles? :|
Grendel Pr1me @ Apr 7th 2009 7:45PM
I feel the same way, but I'm going to suspend reality and belief while playing this game, just the same as I did playing any of the Splinter Cell games.
After all, how many hallways just the right width for you to pull a Van Damme split leg stance really need to exist? Or even really exist?
Gargoyles are the new narrow hallway.
chaos123x @ Apr 7th 2009 7:35PM
Wow the graphics look bad ass.
But the gameplay looks slow, tedious, and boring.
Do you have to sneak around planning stuff the whole time?
I would just rather jump in and kick some ass.
Game designers should work on making the game fun, not realistic.
Does the entire game take place in in arkham? that would blow.
No thanks to slow paced stealth games.
RobT @ Apr 7th 2009 7:39PM
Batman isn't really a jump right in an kick some ass kinda guy, perhaps Kratos is the hero you are looking for?
Vegeta (DAT ASS!!!) @ Apr 7th 2009 8:27PM
"I would just rather jump in and kick some ass."
Well at least we know you have no understanding of how Batman operates.
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 7th 2009 8:53PM
they dont show him lurking in the shadows because you're watching Batman, you arent being batman like you are in a game.
WiredKnight @ Apr 7th 2009 10:38PM
It's times like these that I'm glad people like you aren't game designers.
chaos123x @ Apr 7th 2009 7:44PM
Yes I know batman hides in the shadows and then pounces on his enemies when they are not expecting.
But is that fun to do? over and over again?
It's awesome in the movies, cause you don't see him creeping around, he just jumps out of the shadows when the scene begins.
The movies, comics, and cartoons never show the hiding in the shadows part, cause it's too boring to watch.
Vegeta (DAT ASS!!!) @ Apr 7th 2009 8:28PM
"The movies, comics, and cartoons never show the hiding in the shadows part, cause it's too boring to watch."
Except they do. And no not really.

This may not be your type of game, which is fine, but you should realize that people do like these stealth type games. People like devising a strategy and then trying to execute that strategy in different environments with increasing difficulty. People also like the fact that you can tackle a given problem using a number of different solutions. That's what makes the game fun -- to see how much finesse you can use.
Of course, if every room looks the same, it's going to get tedious. But through interesting combat and diverse problem solving methods, one could definitely enjoy themselves with this game... or so it seems.

I read that entire post with Kevin Conroy's and Efrem Zimbalist's (Batman/Alfred from Batman: The Animated Series) voices in my head. I miss that show and the early Superman Animated Series -- they were so awesome.
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 7th 2009 8:52PM
Fucking alfred is SO fired!
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 7th 2009 8:54PM
im sorry, my heart's just not in it today
StGermain @ Apr 8th 2009 4:43AM
I'd sue the ass of the makers of this game if I were you :) because you are being depicted as a killer (go in and finish him off...) which in the Marvel Universe you aren't.
bluefrog @ Apr 8th 2009 10:47AM
Marvel Universe? Wrong universe there ;)
Prof_Chaos @ Apr 8th 2009 11:27AM
I don't get that. I've watched both this version and the previous and I don't see where Batman is killing anyone. Sure he a bit brutal, but the most dangerous was the wall explosion and the explosion blew the wall out to knock the thug unconscious, not kill him.
Derek @ Apr 7th 2009 9:38PM
I'm all about this. Sort of reminded me of the way I play Metal Gear, just with Batman.
Jose42 @ Apr 7th 2009 9:41PM
This game looks great. How did they make a good batman game? Hopefully, it'll be close to the level of quality established by Superman 64.
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 7th 2009 10:16PM
dont even joke about that
@froM@n @ Apr 7th 2009 10:14PM
That character model would be perfect to me if they just took the pupils out.
bongoes @ Apr 7th 2009 10:33PM
This game looks awesome
Nick8708 @ Apr 8th 2009 1:16AM
The game is looking good.
By the way, was the audio and video out of sync for anybody else? I've noticed this problem with several flash videos from all sorts of different sources, though it's never a problem on Hulu. I wonder if there's something wrong with my browser or codecs or...something.
Kyle @ Apr 8th 2009 7:27AM
I always seem to have this problem with the Joystiq videos, but other videos on the site (the Turbo one for instance) run fine.
Avatar @ Apr 8th 2009 12:55PM
Yeah, same for me.
bluefrog @ Apr 8th 2009 10:46AM
Oh yeah, completely out of sync for me.
I'm glad they put up the extended cut - I was a bit annoyed with the missing bits from the first version.
Jeremiah Moon @ Apr 8th 2009 1:13PM
Hey... you guys know they have a demo of this on ps3s at best buy, right?
At least the one I visited had it (Powers and Carefree, Colorado Springs.)
Definitely worth checking out if you happen to be there. I really enjoyed it.
HDpurist @ Apr 8th 2009 6:58PM
damn, looks like a huge turd........
