And you think the 2MB is enough to add all of this to the game?
Even the SFIV costume unlock keys were a few hundred KB each.

To give some more information (because I couldnt find any either, so I just took a shot and bought it) It adds the game modes you have heard about already. The slayer is kind of like Mercenaries mode with each person having their own score, and you can kill each other to be dicks. The Survivor mode is killing each other. When you shoot someone they loose points (if they have any) and you gain points. You get more points based on what gun you use, where you shoot them, and if your in last place or not (which will give you a 2x multiplier). The run, stop, and shoot thing isnt as bad as you might thing, you just have to think of different strategies than you would use in a normal shooter. You play with the same characters they have in mercenary mode. Survivors and Slayer mode have different gun sets to start out with for each character (that may not be worded right but I mean Sheva 'Clubbin' outfit will have one gun set in one game mode then a different set in the other). It uses all the same maps as mercenaries mode as well. The game play is fun if you liked Mercenaries but not as difficult. You also get new Achievements that arnt TOO difficult to get. All the character get unlocked by spending the in game points (the same ones you use to unlock the figured and inf ammo guns) you earn anywere from 500 - 2500 points per round depening on your placing. For $5 you probably wont be dissapointed, it adds something new to the game to bring up its replay value, and again if you dont mind paying for it I would recommend you do because it is fun.

I like the Versus mode. I think it's a good add on to the game.

You are an idiot if you think 2mb is an unlock code. It would be measured in tens of kb's if it were just a code noob.

That is rather large for an unlock code, but too small to be much more. Even if it's using on-disk assets, wouldn't it be a bit bigger?

1.8 MB would not be large enough to include new playable characters, maps, and UI changes. That shit is an unlock code and maybe some updated rules that they changed. Hell, I bet they even beefed up the size of the download a bit.

It's NOT A FREAKIN UNLOCK CODE! No, I am not agreeing with Capcom's actions, in fact I am wholly against them and will not buy this DLC. But I'm getting pretty sick of people calling this an unlock code. Do any of you realize how small executable code really is? As a developer, I can tell you that executable code is very small, taking up a tiny fraction of the game's total size.

For example, one of my programs I developed for my university prof is 223KB of code. The executable: 76KB. It isn't a very large program but there are quite a few lines of code: 1000 lines of code is roughly 30KB for me. So my program probably contains roughly 7000 lines, and that all compiles to 76KB.

Let me clarify something: Content != Mode. I've read IGN's article, and it clearly says content. But that much was obvious? At worst, there is placeholder code or broken code that needs to be patched.

The content? Obviously it is there.. does anyone really think that they would use different character models, different textures, different maps than what is on disc? That wouldn't make any sense, best use as much as what ships with the game as possible, to reduce bandwidth costs and production costs/time.

I'm going to have to agree with Wicko, here. Well designed software is going to have all the assets separate from the actual code, and even the code is going to be broken into reusable pieces.
So if you look at the difference between what they've added and what was already there we see that all the did was add some rules for scoring and respawning. And maybe some extra code and/or update to handle 4 players instead of 2. And so code to do that can definitely fit in 2MB.
If they called it "Downloadable Remix" would that sit better than calling it "Downloadable Content"?
And with no new art assets, it was probably pretty cheap to make comparatively, so it's ridiculous that they are charging the standard $10. Oh, wait. They aren't. This is cheap DLC.

its just a modification of the mercenaries mode so 2mb file is plenty. on top of the the code it could be compressed as well.

also whos the dumbass that says there are other characters and outfits all these shits are available in mercenaries, try beating a game before you speak next time.

Thank you, Erluti, DeepFriedSushi. I was beginning to think I was the only one on this train of thought. It's funny that people mod comments down because they disagree, rather than posting a constructive counter-argument. Isn't modding down meant for people namecalling or otherwise being a douche to other commenters?

At any rate, I still think this is a sad move by Capcom and I'm not going to buy their DLC, but not only for the fact that they are charging for it but also because I really don't think MP fits this game very well. "Mobile turret gameplay" I believe someone called it once, pretty accurate haha.

@ iag25

They didn't lie. They didn't add any new art or music. Just code. Believe it or not, all the code that they added takes less space than a single skin texture on a character. I've coded projects that have taken months (single person), spanned 5,000 + lines of code, and used no art assets that compiled to around 2 megs.

@wicko

ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, capcom KNOWS that we are used to seeing 108kb unlock codes, so they made this dlc 2mb in order to throw us off? i mean seriously, these guys got a tremendous amount of bad press leading up to this, and you think they wouldn't try any other tricks to make us believe that somehow they aren't at fault?

use your head on this one, because in case you forgot, the demo of this game, which for all intents and purposes looks identical to the final release, came out a few months ago. yet they couldn't squeeze in the 2mb of coding during the final weeks of prep? BULLSHIT

Duke:
The majority of people that come here ARE retards and idiots. No, you're right, I don't have to say it in every post, but that's really what I think at this point. Everyone argues and bitches about stuff they don't know about all the time here. That's pure ignorance. It's just as bad as people who blame Bush for the economic down turn. They are idiots too.

Pete:
No, they can't squeeze this in during the final few weeks before release. Games go gold before that. They are submitted for review by the ESRB , and if they add content, they have to re-submit. This puts the release date back, which screws up the entire financial plan that they have for the game. Let's not forget that it's not like they make the discs and get them to the stores the same day as the release date. The discs are pressed usually at least a week before the release date. The games are SENT to the stores usually more than a week in advance. Think about it: how would stores be breaking street dates for games like Bioshock and Killzone a week in advance? Think they're going to recall all those discs and lose a shit ton of money just so you fucking complainers can get your DLC for free on the discs? No. You're being stupid selfish whiners.

Finally, an "unlock code" would be no more than a few kilobytes. Anyone with half a brain knows that you wouldn't have to download all new models, textures, and maps for something like this, and that the actual code that goes into a new mode like this wouldn't take up hardly anything. If you really expect something like thiis to be a couple hundred megs, you've proven yourself ignorant to the situation - and you revoke your right to complain and argue about it without being a complete jackass. Yes, the majority of the game content that is used for these modes is on the disc. You are paying for two things here: The work that the programmers had to put into coding the extra modes (not the size of the file, but the labor - size is irrevelent), and the extra server bandwidth and upkeep.

There are plenty of reasons here that negate the bitching and nearly prove anybody's stupid suspicions incorrect. Duke, I think that the majority of the people that come here ARE retarded and idiotic, because they don't take anything sensible into consideration during these absolutely ridiculous cry fests you all go on. Multiple people here have listed reasons why the DLC isn't BS, why it isn't an "unlock code," yet all you do is cry, bitch, and moan, and call BS. Try coming up with an actual thesis that backs up your bitching for once. "OMFG 2MB? BS UNLOCK CODE" isn't a good damn argument.

So go ahead. Convince me that I'm wrong without down voting me. I mother fucking dare you to be smart. Go ahead and call me a retard if you want, I don't care, just back up your damn crying, or you prove my point, that you are nothing but a whining bitch who wants everything in life for free, and who knows nothing about what they are crying about.

Awaiting the [-]'s.

Not to start a flame war, but the rumor is the dl size is only a few megabytes. So it sounds like Capcom lied when they said it wasn't just unlocking content already on the disc...

I support DLC 100%, but this does sound a bit shady. I was 100% ok with the Prince of Persia DLC, etc., but this sounds like a rip.

Why is this a surprise to anyone? The mode itself isn't on the disc, obviously. But all the content it uses, is. Content being the models, maps, textures, etc. That is why it is so small, the majority of space that a game uses up on disc or harddrive is that content, not the executable code.
