It's not on the marketplace. It's on the disc. Avoid!

Cor, it's people like what cause unrest. It's 2mb of code used to set up a new gameplay mode built off pre-existing resources on the disc. It's not "on the disc", it's just using what's on the disc.

The guides been out since the games been out

makes you wonder if they had a meeting at capcom like ...

"hey guys its been what 2 or 3 weeks?" "think that's enough time for us to release the DLC and not get crucified for basically giving them what they already have?"

or maybe it was predetermined

Uh oh, with all this talk about Capcom screwing us for buying their game, which was great, but i refuse to buy the DLC especially with the new DLC for left 4 dead coming out soon, BEACAUSE IT IS FREE.

Sorry went off on a tangent, my point being that Capcom already told us to piss off because of our bitching about the content not being free. S you really think they care either way if we buy it or not? They already have the sixty bucks, so you can buy it or not.

However, it is eff'd up of them to do on both this and Street Fighter 4. I used to be die hard capcom but i think my time as a fanboy has come to an end.

Keep and eye out for Capcom's response, I am sure they will have something to say about this.

I cannot speak for the 360 version but as for the PS3 I have an issue with Capcom sending out a required update that adds the DLC trophies to the list. I know its not important to everyone and in the grand scheme of things its nothing but since I finished the game 100% in-game it would be nice if my platinum trophy was sitting next to 100% and not 85%. Every other game developer out there only adds the DLC trophies once you actually download the content just adding another reason for this being an unlock.

I'm reading a lot of negativity that is justified under the assumption that the 2MBs is unsubstantial data and the majority of the purchase consists of unlocking existing content.

But what are the opinions on the rising costs of game development versus the not so rising cost of games. There was a day when games like Super Contra cost about $40 to purchase yet the development costs where only in the hundreds of thousands. And this is a game that is easily finishable in an afternoon.

Now we have RE5 with a multimillion dollar budget, and increase in cost to develop of possibly 50 times. Yet compared to Super Contra, at least 8 hours to complete for the average gamer's first run, online play, and Mercenaries mode which grants much replay value, and the increase in cost over Contra's back when it was new? 33 percent maybe. Discuss.

Contra didn't try to ass rape me for my money. I got what I payed for at that time, nothing less.

Also, Contra was a good game. (IMO.. before the flame war begins)

I agree with everything you specified but Capcom and other game developers have the decision ultimately to make the game or not. It should sell based on its merits and its up to the developer to set a budget and keep the costs reasonable. Adding online play to a game these days is a necessary evil since it is looked upon as a norm due to other developers doing it; not just because buyers might require it. I remember playing many a game with just a single player campaign and being fine with it before multiplayer was introduced. The one thing that Capcom needs to catch a clue on is Perception is Everything. If they had included the 'required patch' sent out previously along with the 2MB download/unlock it would have been at least 20MB or more and I don't believe we would be seeing as much outcry over this.

Well, as a developer my self, I believe that the only thing Capcom will take away from this is to pad their DLC to larger amounts to avoid suspicion. Typical unlock codes are measured in KB not MB. Either that, or they will continue what they are doing as the market has reflected that people will continue to buy horse armor.

In regards to Capcom being able to choose how much they invest in game dev, you are absolutely correct, as is evident from Umbrella Chronicals and the other recently announced on-rails-shooter they are making. But guess what? Even though these games are gonna cost them less than half of RE5, they are only gonna be $10 cheaper.

I like BIg Bang Theory :(, Penny at first to me was unattractive, but as i found myself coming back to the show, i now find her extremely HOT!!

Anywhoo, i know BBT is not "the best" of shows, but it is one of the funnier ones to come out in recent times. I just take it for what it is: A goofy, funny show. It doesn't try to be Friends or anything more than it is.

Anywwhoo back on topic: Capcom, this is DLC done extremely poorly and done just for the sake of profit, defending it with your statment makes you look even greedier.

Now, im not against all DLC. There has been some excellent DLC, even some that have a price tag. BUT, there is a right way to do it, see list, and a wrong way, its just too bad more and more companies, especially reputable companies like Capcom, are leaning towards the wrong side.

DLC done right: (note i only own a PS3 so i know i am leaving out some good DLC on the 360 side, someone who knows can chime in for me)

Call of Duty ( Map packs )
Mirror's Edge ( Map packs and the free level!)
Gran Turismo Prologue
Lair ( yes, Lair too, they released dragons and even a control scheme free!)
Battlefield Bad Company ( Map Packs AND New Mode FREE)
WarHawk ( this is the BEST example of DLC done right, some free some priced perfect blend of both types)
Wipeout HD/Series ( The DLC support for this series is simply amazing, and all of it free!)

I think it's important to point out that the new gameplay mode in Battlefield: Bad Company, is a gameplay mode that was promised to be part of the game long before the release. When it became apparent it wouldn't be ready, it was moved to DLC status and promised to be available upon release. Then that fell through, so it was released later, for free, as promised.

Versus mode was not part of RE5's original scope.

Chenry, no it was not part of the original scope...MID-DEVELOPMENT, they changed their minds, and put it in the DISC, LOCKED the content, which is IN THE DISC YOU BOUGHT for 60bucks, only to later nickel and dime you for 5 bucks. That is horrible

Also, BF:BC is a perfect example of how a developer should handle things. THEY ADDED the content LATER, which was NOT ON THE DISC because of whatever factors, and they offered the DLC FOR FREE. Capcom just stinks of greed as of late..

Speaking as a programmer, 1.8GB sounds like an entirely plausible size for what you are getting. That said, $5 for game modes that almost every other game on the planet already include for free is ridiculous. But are we really surprised? This is the same compay that released a new spinoff to Street Fighter II on a $60 cartridge (and this was when that was overpriced) every few months over 10 years ago.

I'm a game developer as well as a game fan, and I find the business practice of completed content and withholding it from the final game, only to charge their customers a premium for it later, to be quite sickening. The fact that the content is a standard and staple of the industry that absolutely no other game has charged for makes it worse, and the fact that the content is pretty much confirmed to be on the game disc itself, and some people have paid upwards of $90-100 for the Collector's Edition which still excludes this content, is absolute deplorable. Capcom's PR response to these issues have been unprofessional, disrespective, dismissive, and condescending, and it pisses me off to watch it happen. Game companies should treat their fans better and with respect and cater to their demands because it's their fans that build them and it is their fans that will continue to support them... but not if they're stepped on, insulted, ripped off, and disregarded, as this DLC fiasco has done to several loyal Capcom and RE fans.

The dlc is SOOO much fun. I also like the fact they included new weapons and power kick! It's when your enemy is getting attacked by a Majini. The Only think i dislike is that you have to unlock the people again but oh well. I give the dlc 97/100

the gameplay is exactly what you would expect but you get a lot of xp for each match so you can use it to unlock stuff/trophies...each match pretty much comes down to who has a more powerful gun since you are just standing in front of each other and shooting. I really don't think its fair that you HAVE to pay for this to get 100% trophies. If you are the type of person that loves trophies you have no choice but to buy it

Capcom should've waited to release the last patch along the DLC, it would be better for them...
Of course, the characters and stages and weapons are on the disc, they are taken from the game data itself, the DLC file just modifies the menu so you can select the new modes. I might actually buy it, but I'll check out videos first.

Yeah it's a small download. 'Cos it's a bunch of lines of code. The versus mode uses resources already on the disc, so of course it's small.

It's like buying a new manual for a bunch of LEGO blocks. You wouldn't complain about the new manual being a cash grab because it uses blocks you already own. It makes use of the stuff you already have.
