I was having issues with getting a pre-paid shipping label last after my 360 RROD'ed last week, but it was because they had an old address of mine.

I told them I wanted a pre-paId box and they sent it later that day. Weird

My zephyer elite RROD'ed on the 27th of March, I went online, ordered a box and it came on Monday the 30th. When a buddy of mine's 360 RROD'ed last year, they sent him a box. No problems for us.

I got the RRoD about a month or so ago and they said I needed to supply my own coffin. Luckily I had the old coffin from when my 1st xbox died.

It would be nice if Microsoft actually informed its employees of the policy. I had to whine to get a box the last time I had my 360 repaired, about three weeks ago. The person I talked to kept trying to get me to accept just a shipping label, and I had to waste her time in order to get a real box.

By the way, am I alone in never having the online repair option work? Whenever I have attempted to use it (I'm on my fourth 360, so sending them in is not a new experience for me), it always says that the serial number is already registered - despite that 360 being sent to me by Microsoft. In addition, when I navigate the customer service hell to get a repair order placed, it never lets me check my online status - the order number is never recognized as being valid.

On a similar note, Microsoft promises to relicense your downloadable content to your new 360 when you get it repaired, but am I alone in never actually having that happen? I'm going to have to phone customer service AGAIN to get the stuff relicensed, because Microsoft is evidently not competent enough to do what it promises to do.

The exact same thing is happening to me now. The 1-800 people told me that the system was "updating" (a week ago) but I think it's broken.

I had that happen (the downloaded games not registered to my console) and after a few calls of getting nowhere they started to offer me free stuff. I got a game and a Memory Card for my troubles. My advice is to keep track of every call you make and keep a reference number along with the name of the person you called. For some reason if you don't have a ref. # they just open a new ticket and even though you may have called 5 times before it just looks like one time to them. Ask for a supervisor if you need to.
I've worked in a call center and I know that sometimes the policy of the call center and the policy of the client (ie MS) are not always the same. MS may allow for the coffin to be sent but the call center may instruct employees to not offer it as a way to boost their stats for the contract.

Remember that they are there for YOUR service... just try not to be a jerk when asking for assistance and you may find yourself with a free game!

My xbox RRoD'd last night and no there is no option for the coffin online, i assume this is because i am from the UK. however, i don't think i need a coffin.. wrapped it in an old pampers box stuffed with tesco carrier bags. fingers crossed will get there in one piece :)

I've received a box every time, although twice (in the five times I've had to contact repair), they tried to pass me off with an online label.

I don't see how the 360 hasn't been improved upon to prevent so many damn systems needing repair.

I will soon be on my 10th Xbox 360. Hitting double digits is great in sports, but humiliating when discussing how many 360's I've had. I've stuck in it for the games, but every man has a limit.

My brother and I have traded a coffin back and forth over the last couple of years each time one of us has had to send one in.

Yes, all 12 times between the 2 of us, with 3 360s.

I'm based in the UK and I was certainly not offered a coffin when my elite died last year. When mine died I asked a work colleague the process as he'd already been through it and he too had to purchase his own box. Crazily my launch console still works (is this a record?). Incidently marmite makes an excellent sealent for the box.

+1 for marmite!

Do you lick it like a stamp for it to stick and if so, does the aftertaste last as long as envelope glue goo?

I honestly don't know what the big fuzz is about a box. Last time I had to send my xbox for repair they gave me the option of printing a shipping label they e-mailed me or waiting like 5 days for an empty box. I took the option of printing the shipping label and not have to wait for an empty box. I printed the label the same night and took my xbox to UPS the next day and that's it, my xbox was on its way to repair a day after placing the call. It's much faster to print the label and let UPS pack your xbox...UPS has the right box at their location. I received my xbox back in a week (seriously) it took 7 days from the day I dropped it off at UPS and they day it was delivered. If I would have used the box it probably would have taken twice the time.

Could someone please explain why you prefer waiting days for an empty box when you can just print a label and let UPS pack it for you. Do you like packing your own xbox or what?

Forget about the coffin, how about the flagrant disregard for consumer laws in Australia. They continue to argue that the hard drive that comes with the pro or elite versions has only a 3 month warranty. Legally they are obliged to provide a 12 month warranty for any retail product.

I never had the "coffin" offered to me last week. They were really pushing the label. I had to ask for the box. Once i asked for it, they said yes that is also an option and confirmed my address.

Can anyone tell me about how long the turn around time was from sending to receiving your repaired 360? I am on my 3rd 360 but last time I sent one in was around the time that the 3yr warranty was made available. So assuming volume is much lower now I hope the turn around time is much quicker.
