The sad part is, they'll all probably sell well which will only encourage Activision.

Guitar Hero: Buckethead confirmed?

Wasn't this a rumor a couple months back as well as GH: Van Halen?

While you are quite right in saying this, it is my opinion that 'Guitar Hero: Guitar Hero' would be a more entertaining title.

ugh. All of those by titles are making me sick. When will they start making expansion discs or something so people don't have to disc swap so much.

That being said, let's hope to god that lego rock band isn't the kids bop of the rhythm game industry.

I really hope it's a joke. What would legos really do for the gameplay? When I'm playing RB or GH I hardly ever look at the concert in the background because I'm concentrating on the chart. The rock show behind the chart does give it a little extra atmosphere but it's almost entirely an audio experience for me.

What did Aerosmith do for gameplay? Or Metallica, etc. All of these expansions are just silly gimmicks to give them an excuse to release a disc of more songs. I actually think seeing a lego band could be pretty funny...for the two songs until the novelty wears off.

I just thought into in a little more and thought I would share:

I'm in my 20's and lego videogame anything seems like a total waste but to a little kid I guess the lego brand makes a game seem more welcoming to their age group. There are a lot of buttons on controllers and your typical Halo, COD etc game has a pretty long list of controls that can be intimidating. I imagine Lego game controls are simplified.

Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to say is if a Lego Rockband is targeting a young audience and not just trying to score some extra bones I will definitely support that. A lot of high schools around here don't have music classes anymore so if a videogame acts as being a gateway into learning a real instrument I think it is great.

While you're completely right that the Lego games are relatively simplified compared to something like CoD, you're completely wrong to discount them as just kiddy games. While I haven't played anything other than the Lego Star Wars games, those are a blast. And proof that games don't have to be hardcore conceptual odysseys in order to be fun.

@Keen

Your analogy is erroneous. Rhythm games by nature are all about the music. To say that offering different types of music is a gimmick is like saying different types of armor in an RPG is a gimmick. What a ridiculous thing to say.

Using Lego props and people would simply be an aesthetic change, and as Tyler pointed out, is secondary to the main focus of the game.

Actually, I figured this out a long time ago. Like when the rumor first surfaced.

You know how Guitar Hero is rated T, and Guitar Hero 2 is rated T, and all the latest Guitar Heros and Rock Bands are rated T? Suggestive lyrics and such including Highway Star and it's ilk? Yeah... so where is the E rated game in this genre? DDR? No way to rock out on DDR.

But a Lego Rock Band serves two purposes. The first is to make the genre accessable without the sexually objective characters (Harmonx way moreclass on this front but it's still a far way from ideal for younger kids) and controversial lyrics. The second is to give the Rock Band gameplay a face that is already associated with good family friendly games.

For you and me, Lego Rock Band is useless. For my sister who has a couple younger children she's trying to introduce the concept of a game to? Perfect.

I didn't say new music is a gimmick, I said using Lego characters is a gimmick to give them an excuse to put out a "new" game with new music. Which is the point of music game sequels, and music games in themselves.

And if that's not what I said, then...you know nothing...

2 cents - Keen is absolutely right, you shouldn't simply discount them as kiddy games. They're fun, well-put together games. Indiana Jones is a lot of fun playing co-op.

It wouldn't be the guy from Kotaku, I know that.

The original finder of this was a member on the Rock Band Forums (to my knowledge), and they even linked the full slide presentation, not just this little picture. Yes, this chart was in the entire thing, so I'm very doubtful this is hoax. If its a joke, its on HMXTeasdale's part, not on anyone else's.

If anyone wants the link to the full power point, go do a quick search on the Rock Band Forums on rockband.com. I don't have the original link anymore, sorry :P

Much like how that Ion drum set was offered as a "premium" accessory for Rock Band 2, I would love to see kits for Lego Rock Band.

That's right.

Kits.

Of legos.

Make your own instrument! Then play it!

Would everything look like that one White Stripes music video that would play on Cartoon Network like 10 years ago (gosh I feel old)? Because that would be totally sweet, and I'd be all up for buying it. And by "buying it" I mean watching videos of other people playing it on Youtube for free.

Dude. Lego bricks as the scrolling blocks.

I don't know. My kid's right in the Lego game demographic, I think (6), and he loves plain ol' Rock Band 2. He's into punk rock, though, so maybe Lego isn't the right fit for him anyway.
