We've kind of assumed that Sega's double shot of M-rated offerings on the Wii underperformed, because ... well, because it's the Wii. But if Sega of America VP Sean Ratcliffe is to be believed, we might just have sneered at MadWorld and House of the Dead: Overkill's numbers too soon.
Ratcliffe told VentureBeat, "House of the Dead has done very well and has absolutely met our expectations. The first set of data for MadWorld is very encouraging, as well." We know that Overkill only sold 45,000 units in February, but if that's good enough for Sega, it's just enough to allow us to keep the hope of an Overkill sequel alive in our hearts without feeling like cockeyed optimists.

Those numbers will go up via word of mouth. I picked up Madworld for me and a friend last week. I also plan on buying House of the Dead Overkill pretty soon too. I mean I have to own a game that says the word "fuck" 189 seperate times.

Always with the excuses. PS3 and Xbox 360 always get roasted for every mistake and low sales figures that they get. Nintendo on the other hand gets the soft touch every time. 45,000 units isn't even half the people that own Wiis. Killzone 2 and LBP were supposed to be defining titles for Sony and because they weren't Sony gets kicked around by everyone. But Madworld and Overkill were supposed to be defining titles for the Wii as well and what do we hear from everyone when they weren't "Oh well, at least some people brought it. That's okay".So once again everyone gets away with making crap for the Wii as long as it' cheap, while hardworkers like Media Molecule and Guerrilla games get burned at the stake.

Agreed. Once I see a third party Wii game that gets 25 million sales in it's first month, THEN I'll be impressed.

wow, both of you have a completely skewed logic.
"45,000 units isn't even half the people that own Wiis" OMG NO WAIZ!!!! R U SRSZ?
there will never be a game, on any console, where half of the owners of said console will all buy the same game.

I's just joking, 8-bit.artist. :)
Sarcasm aside, I don't think Killzone 2 is to PS3 as MadWorld is to Wii, given that one is targeting the system's primary audience and one is targeting the system's niche audience... But you're right, it's stupid to bash a game based on it's first month of sales, regardless.
Also... what 8-bit.artist said. :)

Wii Play.
Even though the comparison tiamat made failed, his point is valid. I'm very sad that LBP didn't sell millions of copies. It really should have. I think it may have usurped the original Zelda from the place in my heart reserved for favorite-game-of-all-time. And even though I'm not much into console shooters, there's no reason KZ2 shouldn't have sold as well as CoD or Halo. Even I (an FPS-genre critisizer) admit it is a better game than those.

@lars
while wii play is close (properly the closest game there is on any platform), it isnt half of the wii install base. also, take away the controller and it wouldnt be anywhere near the sales it has.

I cant talk for MadWorld but I picked up HoTD Overkill and my wife and I loved it.
It was funny and a good shooter to boot. If you have ever played and enjoyed a Lightgun game AND don't mind hearing a few curse words you should pick this one up.

violence aside, mad world is quite well made, the most shocking thing is it actually has a story, and not having any fluff is really refreshing in an age when most games are ridiculously padded

WOO and HOO!
If anyone from Sega is reading this, I just want to say "THANK YOU!" for being damn near the only company to make games for the Wii that actually remembers not all of its customers are Moms who religiously follow Redbook or two year olds.
I don't care that these games are M Rated and super violent, it's just nice to be able to go shopping for Wii games and seeing something that isn't Minigame Compilation #5,467,913, Minigame Compilation #96,611,004, or Nintendo Characters Shoehorned Into Generic Sportsgame #76,244,013.
Once again, thank you Sega. You'll definitely be getting my money to show my support for these games.

Madworld is the first Wii game I've bought in almost a year, and it is so damn special it has rekindled my love for the system. It's not perfect, but it gets so many things right I don't care. Somebody make me a sequel with a better camera and co-op mode.

PLEASE don't buy used for games like this. The developer/publisher gets NOTHING from used sales- the game pimps at Gamestop get all the money.
I understand that people like to save money, but you're killing these games when you buy something used. If it's only $5 or so difference, please support the developers and buy new!

Glad to hear these games did ok for what they expected. I really enjoyed these two games, Madworld especially and I'd go as far as saying it's the most fun I've had on my Wii in a long time. Hell, it's the first time in a long while I've even had the damn thing on!

Hopefully this won't discourage Sega from pushing games of a similar vein on the Wii. Both HOTD and Madworld are favourites of mine.
Somehow it does feel like they're saving face, but without solid numbers we'll never know.

hrmm...looks like I need to buy both those games....they're both on my "to buy" list. still waiting for a little bit of a sale on them though....

They're both on my "to buy" list as well, but I'm so far behind on my PCWii games to complete that I can't buy games at full price anymore. They'll end up sitting in the stack while I finish up other games. I keep finding sales faster than I can finish games.

Great! Good work, Sega. Now give US gamers Yakuza 3.

Overkill and Madworld are on my list, but it will be awhile before they come around. As is Metroid Prime 3, but I'm not getting it until the new control Prime 2 comes out. Conduit looks interesting, although there's a pessimistic voice in the back of my head thinking it's going to bomb with critics and players.
I'm sticking with my idea of Wii gamers tending to be more patient, and not demanding the latest and greatest (I mean, look at the console's hardware). Not generally the sort that rush out to buy every game at new retail price. The sort that waits for a game to be $20-30 before they buy it. I know I usually am.

I have to say for all of those saying its amazing how they can be impressed with the numbers so low, I need to ask. When excatly did you hear the total sales for these two games? I mean it; you guys are completely guessing as the sale numbers havent been shown.
