According to Siliconera, a recent post on Sega's Japanese Virtual On: Oratoria Tangram website mentioned the possible creation of a new peripheral for the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade release. While it's not directly mentioned, the most tantalizing possibility would be a new twin stick controller that would recreate the original arcade experience.
Unfortunately, the post apparently notes a high cost for the peripheral. Considering the controller would only be used for one Xbox Live Arcade game we wouldn't be surprised if the controller never makes it onto store shelves. Even if it does, it's still possible it wouldn't leave Japan. Still, the twin sticks are really the only way to pilot a giant mechanized death machine, so we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for updates.

I know OT was for DC, but I don't get why you guys always use the DC Twin-Stick image. SEGA Saturn's were so much better, they'd really spruce up the article :D

Also, while this would be very awesome... Didn't they completely scrap Virtua Cop 3 on original Xbox because they didn't want to create a peripheral for the game?

If that's the case that's the first I heard of it. Also a little silly they'd scrap one light-gun game because of lack of light-gun when they already had a lightgun game on the xbox and there was a lightgun for it...
As far as I know it was never officially announced for the xbox, people just assumed it would be coming to the system since the arcade board it used, the chihiro, was based on the xbox architecture. At the time (read: pre-wii) light-gun games weren't very popular; neither House of the Dead 3 nor Silent Scope Complete sold very well, which is probably why Sega never bothered with a port.

You know what already has 'Twin Sticks'? The god damn xbox 360 controller. Though, I'm sure if they make it, someone will buy it.

I'd buy that for a dollar, Robocop!
But seriously, I am pumped for the XBLA release of the game and while I think the game will play fine with the 360 controller I would still like to pick up the twin sticks.

An XBox controller for Japan only? That'd make a ton of money with their large install base...

Get Namco to port over Cyber Sled, bring a retail collection of VIrtual On games, and buy up Midway's Outtrigger, throw them on XBLA or on bundle it all in some sort of collection, then you're off.. to mediocre sales and indifference. Is it wrong to want to see Ciji naked?

I wish they would release an adapter for the saturn or dreamcast twin sticks. I imagine quite a few people who already own the twin sticks would purchase it as well as the game. I know I would!

I'm not even kidding: If a real, good, quality Twin Stick controller was released, I would buy a 360.

As I'm getting older, my fingers are not as nimble as I'd like them to be.
I see a growing market for a larger and more comfortable controller set.

Now where have I seen this control layout before... In any case, the game looks to be a nice addition to XBL, so I'll get it when it comes out.
