BioWare accepting applicants for Dragon Age Toolset beta

Game betas can be exciting things. But betas for game editors? Not so much, unless it's for a BioWare RPG -- Dragon Age: Origins, in this case. The developer has announced a beta for its Dragon Age Toolset, which will, following in the footsteps of Neverwinter Nights' Aurora editor, allow players to create levels and entire adventure modules from the ground up using game assets and their own imaginations.
BioWare has not provided a start date for the beta, but is pointing interested parties (of the aspiring designer type, not the magic and/or weapon-using sort) to sign up at its community site. May the dice roll in your favor.

What can you tell me about the condui-- er, wenches?
:( Man, when I see Bioware in an article I want to see "Mass Effect 2" next to it :P I can't believe they work on other games, how selfish.

You mean how dare they dedicate their time to something other than a Baldur's Gate sequel. Spiritual successor is close enough; I have high hopes for this game.

This has to be one the ugliest looking games this console generation (art style wise that this). BioWare really needs to hire a new artist.

Well, Bioware isn't really known for making graphically amazing games. Mass Effect wasn't much of a looker, either, even on the PC. But Dragon Age looks good enough.

If you played any of the predecessors to this game like Baldur's Gate, you would realize that this game will be best played top down, in zoomed out third person so you can have a tactical appreciation of the battlefield. Tiny graphical details become less important with such a camera view. The over-the-shoulder camera is just a gimmick for unfamiliar gamers with auto-combat turned on.

that doesn't help the fact that it's still ugly. generic d&d ugly.

I'm actually digging the art style.
Rawrmander @ Apr 9th 2009 1:45AM
Let me guess: You've only played BioWare's console games?
Ihavepants @ Apr 9th 2009 5:03AM
It's not D&D

As much as I like Bioware games, I have to admit that graphics aren't really their thing.
(Mass Effect was greatly helped by the Unreal Engine)

Saying this is one of the ugliest looking games this generation just shows ignorance on your part. But if you think the graphics suck that badly, apply for the toolset and let's see you do better.
Nonhippyhippy @ Apr 9th 2009 9:07AM
He said art style, not graphics!
A game can have really high res textures and look good but have terrible art direction (Gears of War 1 and 2)
A game can also have great art direction, but mediocre graphics (alot of JRPGs)
Some of you need to learn the difference between those two...
Rhamsey @ Apr 9th 2009 12:16AM
im not going to do this one, in hoping that i will get the swtor one instead.
Kenny Powers Fastball (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Apr 9th 2009 1:40AM
