Sorry, split-screen fans, The Conduit is hanging you out to dry. According to lead designer Rob Nicholls, the upcoming shooter will exclude a split-screen multiplayer option in order to maintain the game's visual punch. In an interview with HD Warriors, Nicholls said the main reason the feature isn't included is because of concern the graphics quality would be reduced when "double-rendering" the game for the mode.
High Voltage's top priority in developing The Conduit is making sure the title achieves the "best looking" graphics on the Nintendo Wii, said Nicholls. While the in-house tech team at High Voltage continues to squeeze power out of the console, The Conduit will ship without split-screen -- but Nicholls said it is a possibility for future titles.

Other shooters on past Nintendo consoles have handled split-screen multiplayer without a problem. Everyone knows the graphics are dumbed down somewhat when playing this way, but so what?
I'm looking forward to this game, but I wish the designers would just admit that they didn't have time, rather than pretend they bumped up against some limitation that is exclusive to their title.

There is. And like I said, I'd have to get two copies.
One for her, one for me. :/ Wish I didn't have to just to play with her.

Dammit everything time I read news or watch screens for the conduit it freaking disappoints me more and more, I just hope they release it soon before I loose all interest.

can't imagine split screen would work very well with Wii pointers anyway.
I'm personally somewhat disappointed, as I was hoping it would support some manner of coop, and not the stupid "the second player means you have four arms!" bit some other shooters have done.

It actually works great. I had tons of fun playing Red Steel splitscreen.

I'm still gonna get it...but that feature was pretty important to this being "the next Goldeneye 007," in my opinion.
A game like that would be pretty difficult with the Wii pointers though, as Feba says above...

Well if there is online co-op i'm not really concerned. I don't really care for couch co-op.

While I understand High Voltage Software's point of view, I still can't help but think of the concepts of creating a game that has great graphics but lacks gameplay to accompany said graphics versus creating a great game that is tons of fun even if the graphics are not top of the line. I am not trying to attack HVS, but a good game should strike a balance between enjoyability and visuals. Red Steel, for example, may not have the best graphics (although they are not terrible either), but it's a blast. Even though the graphics in its multiplayer do suffer, it is still wicked fun with two to four players. While The Conduit, simply due to its modus operandi, should fix the majority of the problems FPSing has had on the Wii, I can't help but wonder if HVS has a very good excuse/feature to justify losing split-screen.

It still looks like it could be pretty good. But in all honesty, I picked up a Wii because I was getting a bit tired of every high production value game on PS360 being a shooter.

LAME. Nobody expects graphics to stay 100% the same in 4 player or 2 player split screen.
I don't see why 4 wimotes will be a problem. you can change the controls on the fly so that shouldn't be a problem.

Do that many of you really play split screen FPS games on a console? I find that hard to believe. While it sounds good in theory, we all know it's not. You can't hide, visuals are reduced to a blur, and you don't have enough screen real estate to really enjoy the game. Stealth? Whats that again?
I'm not really sure how anyone considers split screen multiplayer a "key component" of a good FPS... but to each his own.

I'm not a big big FPS fan...only really got into FPS games with the Wii and its controls from the couch (I only really play MMO's on the PC), but....are you saying that every other "good" FPS game has split-screen gameplay? Halflife, Farcry, Halo, Resistance, etc., all have a split-screen mode?

Nintendo fans are quite loving towards split-screen.
Afterall, Nintendo systems were THE SYSTEM to go to a friend's house to play.
........ not sit at home and play online. :P
... because, you know... it didn't have online really.
... in that same sense, there are still people who "have friends that have a Wii" - and they only go to their house to play it. Yeah I know, weird, right?

Didn't they announce a long time ago that there'd be no split-screen multiplayer for the Conduit? Or am I imagining things?
Posted: Apr 9th 2009 4:28AM blahblah55 said
They did. But now they're telling us why they're not putting it in.
....... doesn't really make a difference, because a good amount of us are still disappointed.
