It's possible (though not likely) that they just submitted the trailer to the ESRB for a rating in order to avoid any difficulties if the game isn't yet rated.

This is a good thing. It means it will sell better on Wii. Which means we may get more good titles in the future. It is a family-friendly system and that means more parents will be willing to purchase this than say... World at War or Overkill. Not that I hope M rated games don't continue, but realistically, having the Conduit be a cross-over hit would be great for Wii.

Remember, Goldeneye was rated T and it was pretty good.

I also think it's a good thing. Just like most R-rated movies, M-rated games don't sell as much (usually) since the audience is smaller.

Since the Wii has the youngest median age of ownership, this makes sense.

It also shows that "core" games don't necessarily have to be M-rated blood and fuck baths.

I'm pretty sure there was an article on Joystiq months back that actually determined the 360 had the youngest median age group, in the 17-25 year old range if I'm not mistaken.

Well, regardless, Wii has the least stereotypically hardcore median age group, which is good because it means I won't have to put up with "blood and f*** baths" that would otherwise put me off from what appears to be a decent game like Conduit.

Purchase just guaranteed.

The average age of the people who BUY and own the Wii is higher, because parents buying it for their kids are older than young adults who buy the PS3 and 360. However the Neilsen ratings recently published show that in terms of those who actually play the games the Wii has the youngest audience, roughly 6-11, and the PS3 the oldest. That's just the biggest sector, I play the Wii and am 25. It's neither a good or bad thing, it just is what it is.

I'm happy The Conduit is T for Teen because mature games often subsitute violence and crude humor for a developed plot and characters. I'm also happy because more people can experience it.

As for the A.S.E, it looks awesome. Kinda like Samus' scanner. I'm not a huge shooter fan - you need to give me something to do other than shoot or I get bored. That's why Halo is not for me, but the likes of Fallout 3 and Metroid Prime are some of my favourite games ever. This trailer makes me believe that the Conduit may be a mixture of Goldeneye style action and Metroid Prime investigation. (Though I don't believe it will reach those AAA heights.) I don't need to explain to you guys how excited that makes me!

You call it "Plot Device".

I'm calling it "Scan Visor".

"The Conduit is labeled T, which may be a disappointment to those of you hoping for a nonstop bloody mess -- or a relief to those of you fearing sleeping gas and Nerf guns."

I really wish that instead of hard-coded ratings (E, T, M, AO,) that the ESRB would instead just put the "content warning" list on games (for example, the "Blood, Mild Language, Violence" at the beginning of this trailer). It would result in game makers worrying about producing their artistic vision, instead of aiming for a certain rating. I really don't appreciate when the content is dumbed down in order to get a less harsh rating, but it bothers me even more when gratuitous amounts of gore are thrown into a game, just to get the M rating, which is somehow construed as making a game "hardcore".

Monsters explode with flowers? No prob.

Levels decorated with rainbows? Do not care.

Recalling good old time, I noticed that Doom3 was "bloody mess" when I was well into the game: good shooter game doesn't give much time to look around.

Game play trumps decorations.
