PRICE CUTS? PRICE CUT! CUT THE PRICE! PRICE CUT!?!

thats all i seem to hear from people these days... whats with price cutting so early this gen. Microsoft had to do it to stay on top. Now people want EVERYONE to have a price cut when they fall back 1000 consoles a week. The Wii price is at a $250 and people still want it lower, by that rate it will be down to $99 in 2011. 5 years. While the PS2 showed us exactly how to price adjust during 9 years

Not all that early. If you look at the GameCube, say, it got its $50 price cut a year into its life and was down to $100 fairly quick. It was very hard for Microsoft to price-cut the original Xbox, because they were losing money at launch price as it was, and it was impossible for them to get the manufacturing costs down, so you saw them a bit more hesitant to move

I forget how the PS2 declined, but this gen hasn't been any worse than the others, except in terms of multiple SKUs and having to track them all.

Slightly later than i predicted (a worldwide launch in June), but good to know they haven't had to delay it significantly

Between this, The Conduit, and The Legendary Starfy, and maybe New Play Control! Pikmin, i should have a fun summer.

Guess we won't have to wait much longer to see how much the Wii MotionPlus will enhance (or detract from) the gaming experience. Can't wait to do some 1:1 ratio swordfighting, myself.

Will this game be full price? By the time I get this game, and an extra Wii MotionPlus controller, I don't want to be out any more than the cost of a normal game altogether.

I'd be shocked if it's below 50 beans. I expect it'll be either 50 or 60 USD for the package. And by package, I'm assuming it'll be game + 1 Wii Motion Plus. It's probably too much to ask, but they should really bundle 2 of them in with game.

I don't think it's going to be full priced, but I would be a bit surprised if it was below $40.

I wouldn't mind as long as they bundle 2 motion plus sets. I got over 60 hours out of Wii Sports so if the sequel can provide that same time, I'll not complain.

Manufacturing costs did not drop... the value of the Yen rose versus the US Dollar. May end up with the same result, but the latter (currency value) is much more volatile and could change at any moment whereas the former (man. costs) generally stay down when they go down. Also, *nobody* drops prices when man. costs drop... it's the law of "supply and demand", not "supply and costs". When demand goes down, so will prices. maybe. but certainly not before then.

If you already own a Wii, which I imagine most people on here do, who cares if they price cut the console? Are you going to buy another one?

Back on topic: yaY for Motion Plus release date! Now if they'd just release a new Zelda game that supports this I could die a happy man.

This game looks half awesome and half a$$. Sword fighting = yes. Dog Frisbee = no. I have little hope that the remaining unannounced mini-games on WiiSports Resort will make me want it more considering that they already revealed Dog Frisbee. I want WiiMPlus though, so I'm hoping both EA Tennis and Tiger games come packaged with it too.

You'll almost certainly be able to buy Motion Plus separately (they'll only give you one with the game so you'll need another for 2-player), so you don't need to buy Sports Resort if you don't want to - regardless of whether EA's games are bundled or not.

Personally I'm a bit conflicted because I'd like to get Sports Resort but it has the dog game and I hate dogs with a passion, so maybe not.

Im sorry but i dont' see it, not to start a war and i know i'll get down voted but just dont want it yet. If they give you 4? or they're $5/pop and the game is $20 and comes w/ one? still prob not. But in MY opinion it seems like 10% of the fun Wii Sports still is today.
They should have just improved Wii Sports to use it.
Maybe if i get my hands on it, or they make an awesome game to use it i'll change my tune.

Not sure if you'd call it minigames... minigames usually have the idea that you should try to aim for a highscore.

...Wii Sports-esque games usually just try to encourage you to just play - while encouraging the fact that the people with highscores really should stop trying so hard.

Like Wii Music, Wii Sports acts like a "toy" - as there's no real objective in it other than to play. Same will go for this. ...except this is a toy to demo the Motion+.

WiiSports had goals, as did WiiPlay. Depending on your performance you could earn medals (Bronze up through Platinum) I can't see how this wouldn't be the same.

Like I said: "while encouraging the fact that the people with highscores really should stop trying so hard."

... medals count. :P

At least getting a high score on Mario Kart Wii got you to play against more experienced players - Wii Sports just got you to play against harder AIs and everyone knows it's 10x more fun against actual opponents. ...and if you get "too good" from playing against AIs: You're no fun in parties.
And Wii Play? .............. why would earning anything count for anything? All it's for is to say "IN YOUR FACE" towards the 2nd player.

... and oddly enough, being good at Wii Music is much more satisfying than being good at Wii Sports or Wii Fit.

Wii Sports Resort is a party game. Meant for parties. Good or bad at it, it's still going to be fun, and that's the main point - not about being the best of the best.

The main problem with the Wii is this: games. Precisely, people who buy the wii have to have another console besides it. There are just too many good games that only come out on xbox/ps3. The big seller for nintendo systems was their games. It was opposite last gen, GC people had it because they wanted Zelda, RE4, Mario. I dont know whats going on this gen but when even nintendo practically ports animal crossing, how can they expect to stay on top?

The Wii needs to reverse the current trend. It needs to be the system getting the games that make people want to have one in addition to one of their current systems. I have owned every nintendo console and not once ever considered buying a ps, ps2, xbox. Even I have been considering a xbox 360 because of RE5, dead rising (not the crap port and yes I played it), assassins creed etc..

Core gamers are like season ticket holders for a sports team, the sports teams know they have to cater to the season ticket holders even though they pay a lot less for their seat than the person who buys a few tickets a year. They know that the season ticket holders are going to come back again and again (core gamers buying more games) whereas the casual fan is going to see a few games a year (casual fan buys 1st party titles only).

Nintendo's stadium is mostly filled with fans who don't even know what sport they are watching and while the stadium is always full, the team is playing like crap. It won't stay that way for long.

"but when even nintendo practically ports animal crossing, how can they expect to stay on top?"

My question is: WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT FROM ANIMAL CROSSING?!
... :P
Better graphics? Over-the-shoulder-view? More options?

The way I see it, it was a way to encourage casuals into Animal Crossing without alienating them with too many new options.
... and it was a way to try out the WiiSpeak for me. :P

I don't see much additions you could put in there without making AC only for core gamers. ...other than that, AC's finally got some DLC - a proper working WiiSpeak system - a new way to design clothes - a town to just waste money in - and a better form of WiFi visiting.

I wouldn't exactly say that justifies the full price, but I still am a fan so I bought it for the price they asked for. That's my problem, what's yours?

I just don't understand what people wanted from the new Animal Crossing... I think people are just disappointed they can't play those NES games in their rooms anymore. :P

Adding graphics or new camera angles wouldn't really do much.

..... other than that, I'm not going to touch the rest of your response. There are people better fit to go against it.

I wanted the new animal crossing to be an MMO or something like a small MMO, since a village would likely only hold a small number of people. It's the only logical way to expand on the series without completely rehashing it like they did for the Wii.

Well that'd still just apply to core gamers, and Nintendo's trying to get some more casuals in their franchises.
... most casuals wouldn't be too keen in neighboring with immature people - unless of course you're all Friend-Coded in the village.
... then the casuals wouldn't experience the oddness that is the AIs of AC.

....... and if you hardly ever talk to the residents, half of the experience of AC is gone. :(

........... how awful would it be if the WiFi sucked for it? :(
Even worse, what if we had to pay a monthly fee??? ...... unlikely, but still a sucky problem.

I am really excited for the new Wii Sports, but I would be bummed out if it was full price unless it was packaged as some were suggesting. I was laughing at Duke's comment about more blood and gore in AC, that would be kind of funny if you could take your ax and scare some annoying neighbors, or at least get some free stuff at Redd's (that guy needs a beating). Personally, I love Animal Crossing and Wii Speak...I would love if I could use my wii speak while playing Mario Kart or Smash Bros. online.

I guess I'm the only one looking forward to frisbee doggin'.

But what I want to know is: what are the other games in WSR? Aren't there supposed to be like 7, or maybe even 10, different games? And we're (supposedly) a mere 2 months away from this game's release (in Japan, anyway), and we've only seen screenshots of 3 of them?!?

Could they just stick with these three and "budget" price the game?
