During a panel at the MI6 Games Marketing Summit, Peter Moore talked about EA Sports' philosophy when it comes to Wii. He warned against unnecessary ports, stating that it's wrong to "simply take what you're doing on the PS3 or Xbox 360 and port – that's a dirty word – down to the Wii," noting that EA Sports learned this the hard way. Now, through things like the All-Play brand, EA Sports is starting to develop experiences specifically for that console from the ground up.
There's more to it than just that, as Moore points to a need for the company to develop "lifestyle" games, which is where EA Sports Active comes in. He says this game will help the company expand from the males that comprise the majority of its audience. Not that Moore wants to alienate them, though. EA Sports wouldn't exist without them.

Actually, they droped the All Play line because those games were ports from the HD versions. That's why they cancelled the Wii version of the new NCAA game, because they want to offer now original sport titles for the system.
Grand Slam Tennis is the first game that EA is going to release with this new philosophy. And I actually agree with them.

Right. It's like how I would rather see an original game instead of "Dead Space on Rails."

Again, Dead Space Wii is an original title. It's called Extraction and it's a prequel to the original Dead Space. Is not a port from the HD Dead Space.

Funny thing is, that's what passes for originality from these guys.

Well... of course they can do better, but you have to take into consideration that Dead Space Extraction is being developed since 1 year ago, way before this new EA philosophy thing.

FR, it's still a way for them to reuse assets and make a game quickly to get a quick buck.
When the Wii was released I saw huge promise in it if only game developers would step up to the plate and use their creativity. The fact not even Nintendo has done so is really disappointing to me.

The top 3 rated games of all time says Hi! Perhaps you should check them before you say Nintendo hasn't stepped up to the plate.

"Madden 2009 - Adrian Peterson, On Rails"
And yet... that sounds awesome.

Two of those 3 aren't Wii games, and the third one, while brilliant, doesn't use the wii remote to its potential. It's an excellent Mario game, but it is still just a Mario game. I wanted new and really wild things.
When the Wii launched, people called Wii Sports a tech demo, but I haven't seen many actual games they were the demos for. It saddens me. Especially since I am less interested in "hardcore" gaming than I used to be.

Wii is in such a odd space, normally if someone went off the "Rails" like Nintendo had decided to do with a console, it would be easy for developers and such to totally ignore it.
While that happened to some extent at first, Nintendo really did a commendable job of driving demand for their product to a point where it becomes more and more difficult for publishers, and developers to ignore.
While sometimes it is nice to even have a quick and dirty port - if only to have that "Also on Wii" during commercials, it is nice that developers, at least EA is taking a different sort of look at how to be successful - and tap into this large market.

Don't forget Dragon Quest: Swords and Samurai Warriors: Katana.
It's actually kinda depressing how many franchises have dipped their feet onto the Wii in such a messed up way that nobody cares.

As long as they keep new games "off-rails", we'll be fine.
Oh, speaking of rails, Joystiq, you have to give this webcomic a chance in the next WWW!

capturing the wii crowd is easy.. just package whatever mediocre shit you're calling a game with some new plastic toy that you can tape onto your wiimote, and people will line up in droves.

don't get me wrong, i have a wii (and mario kart as well for that matter), but but a handful of first party titles aside, the entire platform is a landfill. even the first party titles are showing a downward trend.. wii fit, wii symphony.. what's next? wii fly swatting? wii boat paddling? each one will come with a plastic fly swatter attachment or boat oar, of course..

Yeah I just limited myself to two Wii wheels and nothing else. The main reason I have not gotten Wii fit is that I don't want to have just another piece of white plastic littering the (what I consider) sacred home theater setup I have at home.
Of course if Police 911 by Konami is ported over to use the Wii Fit board, then will fold and eat my tough words.
