Dressed to kill: the main character of Assassin's Creed 2 revealed
You are looking at the main character of Assassin's Creed 2. According to our tipster, this image was discovered on the official Ubisoft forums before it was taken down. The high-resolution render is definitely authentic, and the character possesses more than a little resemblance to Altair from the first game. Looks like gray hoodies are always in fashion, regardless of the era.
Other rumored details have supposedly been leaked in early copies of the next Game Informer. ScrewAttack says the main character is Ezio Auditore de Firenze, a nobleman of Florence from 1476. Ezio is yet another genetic predecessor of Desmond's (y'know, the annoying guy that doesn't kill people?). You'll supposedly be able to swim and access a gliding machine at DaVinci's workshop. And most excitingly of all, you'll play through more mission types. Word of that alone makes us eagerly anticipate our next issue of GI. (Check out the cover, after the break.)

Looks cool, hope it's got more replayability then the first one. It got boring sooo fast...
Oh, and they're ScrewAttack, not Screw Attack.
Latin_Trident @ Apr 10th 2009 11:36AM
I hope they don't make you search for all those stupid flags again. It added about 3 hours more of gameplay but it was so tedious!
This guy looks like the PIMP of Monte Cristo... Holla!
äsdf @ Apr 10th 2009 12:19PM
Nobody forced you to look for the flags, so if you went out of your way to find them that was your own fault. If they had been implemented as well as Orbs were in Crackdown I may have been more interested in them, but as it was they were just not worth it.
Latin_Trident @ Apr 10th 2009 2:22PM
I know I wasn't forced to search for them but you likes having a 49/50 achievement score on a game?
BTW, I got 49/50 only because I missed one FREAKIN' conversation with the chick! I was so pissed!
Latin_Trident @ Apr 10th 2009 2:24PM
*who likes
not you (sorry for the ebonics)
TiE23 @ Apr 11th 2009 1:07AM
I missed the talking achievement too... just restart a new game... sure, I lost my "100% of everything" in my stats screen, but I have 1000/1000 points.
Austin @ Apr 13th 2009 7:22PM
guys. its renascience (spelled that wrong) and he is supposed to be a noble man who has some revenge to put out amongst some of the Templars. so that is why he is wearing the puffy shirt and why he knows davinci who is giving him the awesome freaking blades.
LordChimp @ Apr 10th 2009 10:13AM
The only thing I want them to really fix, is the repetitive mission structure. Other than that, I loved the first one.
EI8HT @ Apr 10th 2009 10:23AM
what about the 500 to 10000 flags hidden in all the lands
(and you have either one or two left from getting the achievement)(trophy wasnt available at that time)
Premature ejaculation man @ Apr 10th 2009 10:35AM
They were optional, unlike the missions.
As for the flags, yhy would you put yourself through something like that if you didn't find it fun? What is the point of playing the game for such a thing? I can understand achievements motivating people to play a game in different ways, but for players to do something they don't like just to get 1000/1000 is just stupid.
LordChimp @ Apr 10th 2009 10:47AM
The flags were annoying and stupid. What made them bad was the fact you got no incentive to collect them all. They weren't as bad as the terrible mission structure but as Premature ejaculation man said, the flags were optional and didn't hurt the game as bad.
Hyams @ Apr 10th 2009 10:48AM
There's 16 different missions types now, no more ease dropping or pick pocketing missions, more variety in enemies, and more weapons.
So, yeah, there's a lot more variety in this one.

Hyams @ Apr 10th 2009 10:48AM
Oh, and collecting flags will grant you in game stuff now, too.
Ignatius @ Apr 10th 2009 10:49AM
Is there a way to track the flags though? Seriously, 1000 flags is insane to try and hunt for.
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 10th 2009 11:36AM
I tried getting all of them using a map from gamefaqs or someother site, it was going pretty well, but if you stop and forget which ones youve already collected, you're fucked
The Baron @ Apr 10th 2009 12:23PM
Yeah, on the PC and PS3 versions there weren't even achievements for getting them.
The achievements should be interesting stuff, like getting a string of kills without arousing suspicion or pulling off a particularly cool move, or escaping in a spectacular fashion.
Not running round for 6 hours picking up pointless objects.
WiredKnight @ Apr 12th 2009 1:08AM
I thought the flags were the best part. It was so much fun just climbing around searching for them. I'm sure it would be tedious using a guide, but without one you can appreciate all the time that went into creating the environments, since you're not just rushing from point to point.
Hyams @ Apr 10th 2009 10:13AM
Looks like Altair's gay cousin.
Cj @ Apr 10th 2009 10:20AM
I bet he could still fuck you up though.
baby sea tuna @ Apr 10th 2009 10:35AM
And he'd look faaabulouth doing it!
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Apr 10th 2009 10:39AM
'Oh dear, it seems I have made quite a mess...'
heypaul @ Apr 10th 2009 10:54AM
I'm with you guys. Looks like Altair, but if instead of getting into killing people, he got into... being fabulous?
Obie (XBL: Obienator) @ Apr 10th 2009 11:54AM
He's the Liberace of Assassins!
Comtar @ Apr 10th 2009 12:08PM
Two armblades is screaming some Wolverine style slashing.
mgsrocks1 @ Apr 10th 2009 1:10PM
Well that's what they were during the renaissance. You're calling that time gay yet some of the greatest men in human history, like DaVinci, have lived at that time.
DarkNessBear @ Apr 10th 2009 2:29PM
It's true he does look a little "feminine", but that's how they dressed in those times. It's better then coming out looking like this:

(Thanks Joystiq for posting the pic I sent it!)
Mysterion @ Apr 11th 2009 1:28PM
It's called renaissance style
well technically it's a baroque style but whatever that's what they call it so it's all good and I never beat the 1st I still have it hehe I got bored at the 2nd city and stopped. So I gotta ask what's with the middle finger and why is swiming so important 2 u all?
P.S. Ubi add a teleport feature and variety and I'm sold!
LadyBlitzFox @ Apr 16th 2009 10:04AM
Are you kidding me? He'll slay men with his duel blades, and melt women in their tracks by merely looking at them! I sent this picture to all my other gamer chick friends and they went crazy over it! Ezio Auditore de Firenze just brought "sexy assassin" to a whole new level, in fact, he redefined it!
His badass yet elegant attire blends perfectly with the flourishing city of decadent Florence, where the deadly struggle for power took place behind velvet curtains and back alleyways. I can't WAIT to see how the Medici, the Godfathers of the Renaissance, are going to be worked into this!! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he was working for them...
I have only one concern- how is he possibly going to blend into the crowd when he looks that good? Every woman in Florence is going to take note of him, street or rooftop! He may be able to outrun the guards, but the mobs of lovely ladies are going to be a real problem... *^_^*
So where do we sign up to pre-order posters of the GameInformer cover art? XD
Dolomite @ Apr 10th 2009 10:17AM
What's with the puffy shirt?
Mr.U2 @ Apr 10th 2009 10:48AM
It's the time period. That was the common style in Italy in the 15th century.
Great Golem+ @ Apr 10th 2009 10:48AM
Just wait till you see his new purple tights!
Erluti @ Apr 10th 2009 10:54AM
The first costume I thought was out there, but it kinda blended with the scribes (except he had a knife belt and they didn't?). So who is he supposed to blend with in this costume?
Professor Lario @ Apr 10th 2009 3:15PM
I was going to ask the same thing... hideous.
ronald.raygun @ Apr 10th 2009 4:34PM
maybe you now hide in gay bars or frolic around with a big group of similarly flamboyantly dressed men?
John @ Apr 15th 2009 3:03PM
Pretty remarkable how many homophobes can't seem to get over the clothing...
Shimrra @ Apr 10th 2009 10:19AM
LOL isn't that the same top Seinfeld wore for the Tonight Show episode. The Pirate Shirt LOL!!!!
Pyroneil @ Apr 10th 2009 10:34AM
Is he not missing a finger? Its hard to tell in that picture.
CannabisPrime @ Apr 10th 2009 10:42AM
Is he supposed to be? It's not Altair.
Pyroneil @ Apr 10th 2009 12:33PM
Yeah, but in the game (especially at the end) they established that the finger cut off was part of the tradition of the assassin order, and it still takes place to this day. Assumedly he is member of this order, so he should be missing a finger.
TreND @ Apr 10th 2009 10:21AM
Altair was a lot cooler than him...
Conor @ Apr 10th 2009 1:30PM
I agree, it looks as if sqaure enix were given the job of creating the new character...
Cj @ Apr 10th 2009 10:21AM
2 arm blades!
jinn35 @ Apr 10th 2009 12:29PM
Speaking of the arm blades, why are they under his arms by his palm?
It seems like that would make it awkward to stab people since he would have to bend his hand backward to fully stab anybody with his blades.
Wouldn't it make more sense for them to be on top of his hand so he could make a fist and stab people?
Bill$ @ Apr 10th 2009 5:05PM
@ Jinn.. the blades were always underhanded.. why change the design now?.. besides i prefer underhanded rather than it being over his forearm.. all the cool guys use underhanded sharp objects/gun mechanisms unless youre Wolverine.
Spam @ Apr 10th 2009 10:22AM
He can count to ten on his fingers.
This annoys me.
Ubisoft, if you're going to make a canon, you'd better stick to it!
Robert Maynard @ Apr 10th 2009 10:33AM
It's a completely different person, living 285 years after Altair. Canon doesn't enter into it.
Hyams @ Apr 10th 2009 10:49AM
Except all assassins are meant to have a finger cut off, right?
Erluti @ Apr 10th 2009 10:50AM
The idea behind Canon is that newer lore should adhere to it.
But maybe Davinci made a better version of the blade that lets you keep your finger?
Robert Maynard @ Apr 10th 2009 10:52AM
"Hmm, that's a fair point, I'd forgotten about that. Also, what the hell, Joystiq comment system? :P"
Something's screwy with the comment system. :P
Comtar @ Apr 10th 2009 11:54AM
It is Canon and it is sticking to it. If you remember the blond chick scientist was a member of the same Assassin clan as Altair and Desmond, she had all her fingers, instead wore a ring on that finger and she tapped it something a certain way to identify herself to Desmond at the end of the game. That means at some point they dumped the finger thing, and replaced it with a ring and a gesture.
Considering how much heat and attention his clan received after the first game, and the fact that Altair destroys the Assassin master, probably means alot of rules and things changed in the clan anyway. I mean seriously, Altair makes his presence known to the King. How do you not change some rules after uncovering yourself that much.
Also when I looked carefully at Altair's hand, it looked like his finger was half way cut off. Seems to me the way his finger pressed down on the armblade acted as a to stableize it once it was unsheathed. Just whenever I noticed where his numb finger was when the armblade was unsheathed seemed like the whole finger thing was not only a symbol of the clan but a practical way of "holding" the armblade steady.
