Here's your first look at BioShock 2 gameplay footage
OK, first, go below the break and watch the first footage of BioShock 2 in action from GameTrailers. But come right back so we can chat about it.
... So what do you think? We really don't want to impose our opinions on you here, we want your input. Our gut reaction is that it bears perhaps too much of a resemblance to its predecessor, but we're not sure what else we were expecting. And that Little Sister cue at the end was trying a bit hard, right?
The drill looks cool though.

Looks like Bioshock to me.
Eric E @ Apr 10th 2009 10:06AM
looks like everything i could hope for.
Bioshock is the new Resident Evil.
I can't say im a huge fan of "protection" gameplay but it can be done right like RE4
Latin_Trident @ Apr 10th 2009 11:52AM
It does look like bioshock! I am so surprised...jk.
I'm looking forward to it. I just hope the first weapon you can use is a golf club. I read somewhere that in Bioshock 2 you have a huge fannie pack where you store all your weapons. Kinda like Altair in Assassins Creed 2. haha
MarkHawk @ Apr 10th 2009 12:15PM
It does look like Bioshock but the first perk I'm going to aim for is something that allows me to walk more then 1.6 MPH. That Big Daddy seems slow as hell.
JerJer @ Apr 10th 2009 12:45PM
hey look! you can fire weapons and use plasmids at the same time! let's notice that too! at least that's new :D
joshua @ Apr 10th 2009 1:56PM
dumb ass. is rapture they are in the same city... lol of course is gonna look like the first bioshock.. Rapture is a big ass city and they are ppl like andrew ryan powerful ppl that wants the adam. we are back to rapture cuase it has survive and one of the little sister from the first is back to collect the adam kidnapping lilttle girls acros the atlantic shores. so is bioshock 2..
Tiptup300 @ Apr 10th 2009 3:12PM
And that's a bad thing?
istuffedsunny @ Apr 10th 2009 8:06AM
It's obvious they're rushing this out for major profitz. I'll play anything that lets me interact with little ones though. (Mwahahahah.)
phuphroo @ Apr 10th 2009 9:21PM
woah calm down Mr. pedophile!
Ryan LN @ Apr 10th 2009 10:59AM
Really? I watched the trailer thrice and I have failed to see where it's obvious that the game is being hurried along unnecessarily. I'm curious as to what makes you think that. It has been two years since the original, and if this is a rush job then they need to start taking some lessons from Acclaim. Still and all, the atmosphere and the gameplay (from what I can see) *feel* like Bioshock, and if the writing and story components are there it will definitely qualify as a release date pickup for me.
FAnchax @ Apr 10th 2009 11:13AM
you know what's a rushed game? gears of war 2....
mynk @ Apr 10th 2009 11:32AM
well, he did stuff sunny.
ApolloIV @ Apr 10th 2009 12:14PM
Pedobear approves?
DaveTMR @ Apr 10th 2009 8:08AM
the drill definitely looks cool. can't wait to use it.
The Baron @ Apr 10th 2009 8:07AM
Looks pretty cool
Temidien @ Apr 10th 2009 8:09AM
Awesome.
gordo @ Apr 10th 2009 8:10AM
Underwater dwellers sure love Art Deco.
Particles in the water he swam in was dope though
Avoli @ Apr 10th 2009 8:14AM
If it isn't broken, don't fix it. I don't mind a game using what worked VERY well for them. Hopefully what they add to make it better works out well. I'm looking forward to it, it'll own me just like the first did until finish.
Doug @ Apr 14th 2009 7:05PM
I'm pretty sure it's going to be very innovative. It won't just follow in it's brother's footsteps like most sequels. I am looking forward to it :D.
Patrick @ Apr 10th 2009 8:14AM
Looks great - Really enjoyed the first game.
I'll be picking it up unless they really screw it up...
Disco Ball @ Apr 10th 2009 8:17AM
Looks good to me. Why change a good thing. It was not broken, so don't fix it!
Kennie @ Apr 10th 2009 8:18AM
I can't wait to get back to Rapture. The incredible atmosphere that made the first game so good seems to be perfectly intact.
TheslaminJ @ Apr 10th 2009 8:21AM
I liked it. I'm not expecting to be blown away by the plot, like in the original. The little sister quote was terrible. They're trying way to hard.
Justin @ Apr 10th 2009 8:28AM
looks awesome, cannot wait.
that little sister thing at the end was lame though, i really hope they don't over-do the voice acting.
WRE @ Apr 10th 2009 8:29AM
Why do you have plasmids as a Big Daddy?
ImbecilePete @ Apr 10th 2009 8:40AM
just.......because
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 10th 2009 8:56AM
so you can fuck shit up
finchburg @ Apr 10th 2009 9:10AM
Because you are playing as the first Big Daddy who was a prototype for the rest. They got rid of the plasmid abilities in the "regular" Big Daddies that you encountered in the first game and that are still running around Rapture in this game.
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Apr 10th 2009 9:13AM
Because as of right now the game's plot has more holes than the fish in the barrel from that Mythbusters episode?
Vegnagun bwf @ Apr 10th 2009 10:56AM
What Jakka said.
Powaqqatsi @ Apr 10th 2009 11:30AM
No, wrong. It's what finchburg said.
Neuromancer @ Apr 10th 2009 1:53PM
It's all the Midi-chlorians.
Teabag @ Apr 10th 2009 8:30AM
Didn't wow me. I was expecting a lot more from this than that.
I know the gameplay won't be completely changed (if it aint broken...) but i was expecting a freshness in it which i did not find in this footage.
I hope more footage over the coming period owns me completely and makes me look like a fool. Seriously, i don't want another Bioshock. I want its sequel.
fffunfarm06 @ Apr 10th 2009 10:03AM
so T2 thought that there was NOTHING that could have been fixed with the original game? not just the same graphics, but same HUD, and same gameplay?
that means they are saying their last game was flaw less? i think not. but it was a ton of fun. but i think not.
Colin @ Apr 10th 2009 3:05PM
Very well said. Thats exactly how I felt. To me, the cool thing about Bioshock was its compelling narrative, take that away, and its just another shooter (albiet, a very good shooter). For whatever reason, a sequel to the original just feels wrong... Lets hope they wow us!
ScottG13 @ Apr 10th 2009 8:32AM
Exactly what I'm expecting. Out of this one. A safe sequel, for sure. Hopefully, Ken is working on something much bigger and farther outside the exisiting Bioshock model.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 10th 2009 8:32AM
Looks awesome, I can't wait to get wrapped up in the world of Rapture again. Looks like 2k has done it again. :)
So co-op and MP has been rumored for this right? TEH HAWTNESS!!1
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 10th 2009 10:02AM
I thought I heard they axed any multi plans for this, which would be great. Bioshock is a solo experience, wouldn't be the same game with an annoying bastard rushing you to the next area all the time (RE: Resident Evil 5)
Powaqqatsi @ Apr 10th 2009 11:33AM
Omg. Nobody is gonna hold a gun to your head and force you to play with the annoying people you're friends with. I hope it does have multiplayer.
j.howlett @ Apr 10th 2009 8:37AM
i saw the thing on spike last night and got a little excited about the possibility to use the drill. i'm still not into the first game though
Ihavepants @ Apr 10th 2009 8:58AM
Was it just me or was that grill attack... lame.
It just sought of touched the splicer and he turned into a ragdoll and slump.
NEED TO TIGHTEN UP THE GRAPHICS GUYS
Ihavepants @ Apr 10th 2009 9:13AM
drill*
Drugs are bad kids.
rov947 @ Apr 10th 2009 9:22AM
Totally agree about the lame drill sequence. That should have put splicer parts on the ceiling.
Vcize @ Apr 10th 2009 9:43AM
Yeah I figured the drill would bore through them in some kind of mini animation a la the chainsaw in Gears.
Instead it just kind of knocked him over. Hopefully that's just something they're still working on.
itsmitchduh @ May 15th 2009 11:12PM
It wasn't a drill shot. He rammed the splicer. wow its kinda obvious.
itsmitchduh @ May 15th 2009 11:17PM
it wasn't a drill attack. He rammed the splicer. You think bioshock would let themselves get away with a lame drill attack? Don't think so.
Ben @ Apr 10th 2009 8:44AM
I'd really love it if the player got to move around in Rapture pre-crazy-period (with all the NPCs friendly and whatnot). I thought that Bioshock could've done with it (as it would've been interesting to see the environments bustling with people) so here's to hoping Bioshock 2 has it!
FluxWaveZ @ Apr 10th 2009 8:55AM
You do get to go outside of Rapture in Bioshock 2 so maybe you will be able to go to some town that does have people. But my guess is that the people won't react too well seeing a Big Daddy walking around thus making them un-friendly.
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 10th 2009 8:58AM
well in the game informer article, one of the games staffers maybe even the lead designer said that before the collapse, big daddies and little sisters had been a normal part of Rapture that nobody really paid any attention too, so if there was a part of rapture that remained civilized I bet a BD would be pretty normal
Vcize @ Apr 10th 2009 9:45AM
But this ended up not being a prequel, right?
In the quote at the end the little sister says "She doesn't want me playing with you anymore Mr. B", which implies that the time in which little sisters DID hang out with Big Daddies (IE Bioshock 1) is in the past.
