As much as I love my 360, I havent been online with the system since last year... I have tons of new games.

The reason is that I got an E74 last year, the system then was repaired... after I received my console, it got the RRoD.

Then, I sold it, and bought a new one a couple months ago... and oh, surprise... I got the E74 again, just after a month I bought it :(

Im currently 360-less... and the reason why I havent been online is because my new house is still under construction (small house) and I have only WiFi... my 360 doesnt have WiFi :(

So, I really like the system, but I will wait until the rumored CPU/GPU combo arrives.

Even though they are keeping many elements from the original that I enjoyed, I won't buy it cause its on rails and not me slow-walking through linear corridors following a pre-set path to the next enemy ambush

Looks like they're thinking exactly what i was: setting the game on rails gives them more control over how the user experiences the game, thus upping the scare factor significantly.

Not my cup of tea, but it seems like it should be a unique experience, and worthy of memory.

I was kinda wondering if doing the game this way could possibly heighten the scare factor, in a way it would seem to make sense although I'm sure I wouldn't be able to really judge that until playing the final product. I haven't played Dead Space as of yet, however I've heard it was a lot of predictable scares.

I'm all for a good scary game, but haven't had experience with any of these Wii 'light gun' games outside of RE:UC, which i really only for an hour or two. The constant gunfire kinda wears on me a little, but this sounds like it might be pretty interesting and more compelling than that. Here's to hoping.

I personally don't mind on rails... I enjoy most games for, or despite their gameplay. I would however, kinda perfer to see more games put to the wii without being turned into something else. I would buy the Survival horror game, Dead space, for the wii without a second thought... But I'm not sure if I'll bother to buy Dead space, The rail-shooter with horror elements.

To all who automatically assume an on rails shooter has no plot or depth: READ THE ARTICLE. and the many other write ups about this game thus far. From the sounds of it, the dev team has really pushed to make sure there is a well written story, set deep in the Dead Space universe. And playing Dead Space original is a very linear game to begin with. Seems to me they made a linear experience... linear. The entire point is to tell the story and well, they are.

And, when I was playing Dead Space at least, I always was thought "God when are the next monsters gonna show up 'cause I wanna blow 'em apart". You could argue that Extraction is just more focused on the action.

As far as the exploration part, it seems like it's still there to an extent, but really most of the exploration in Dead Space is looking for health packs, money, monsters, and power nodes. Taking out the power node tree upgrade system kinda sucks, but it was never the most necessary part of the game. It was nice, but I also found it cumbersome at times. No big loss there.

It's got the looks, it's got the action, it's got the story, it's got the scare, it's got good controls. Seems like a definite buy for me.

Also, to the one who stated Dead Space is like GTA in space: WTF...?

You know, I was not attracted to this game but I had nothing bad to say about it.

Then I read the preview and saw the screen shots for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

And all I have to say is...fuck you Dead Space team at EA. Fuck you.

Wait... does that mean you want Dead Space now or Silent Hill? I fail to see how the two are related. Unless it's the same dev team, in which case I didn't know.

Talk about dense.

No I do not want Dead Space Extraction, I'll take the Silent Hill remake.

Hearing all this "oh it's on rails to have more immersion, control the scares, up the graphics" and then reading the Silent Hill preview and looking at the screens, there is no fucking excuse for Dead Space to be a rail shooter now. Silent Hill Visuals >>>>> Dead Space Extraction

It actually sounds pretty cool... Even if it was "just another" on-rail shooter, I'd still think it'd sound cool. I love rail shooters. All I need to feel complete in life is a Time Crisis compilation (1-4, Zone, etc.) on Wii (with Balance Board support for the pedal!).

Still... I haven't bought an EA game since... ever. But, between this and Boom Blox... I'm seriously considering ending that.

"KeenCommander: No, only games he likes are games. That's the "hardcore" mindset. Back when I was growing up, we had a different name for it... selfish."

Who are you exactly?

Rail shooters are shallow, tell me why they aren't.

Also, I'm sick of hearing casuals moaning about the hardcore. We supported the games industry and casual games are flooding the market with shit and diluting the quality.

Shove it.

FPS's are shallow. Tell me why they aren't.
Action games are shallow. Tell me why they aren't.
RPG's are shallow. Tell me why they aren't.

See? I can do it too. And just because someone likes a different genre of games doesn't mean that you are vastly superior to them. Honestly. Stop throughing around words like "hardcore" and "casual" as if they WEREN'T brought into use just last year.

As a fan of Dead Space and a long-sufferring owner of a Wii (which I use for Gamecube games and, assuming it actually GETS a PAL release, Fatal Frame/Project Zero 4 (and Cursed Mountain, and Silent Hill Shatterred Memories), I will say that DS Extraction looks interesting. Its certainly deeper than any other rail shooter out on the market at present. You have a whole heap of gameplay mechanics which aren't in any other rail shooter.

Now, regarding how SOME people seem to think that "rail shooter = autofail," lets remember the game Killer7. It was a Rail Shooter too.

DS Extraction is obviously more complex than any other rail shooter to date. Yes, its a rail shooter, but from what I've seen, it looks like the most complex rail shooter made to date. Multiple upgradable weapons with alternate fire modes aren't seen in every FPS either.

Yes, I would have rather been able to move the character around, but the DSE team appears to at LEAST be attempting to put innovation in the genre. And good for them.

If I had a Wii still, I'd get this.

It looks well crafted and honestly an entirely fresh rail shooter experience. Considering Sega has pretty much dominated that field for 15 years with a couple other entrants (Time _____), it's cool to see something markedly different.

Also anyone who says ORS aren't real games: you're basically invalidating my childhood, assholes!

I wont be buying this, specifically because it's an on rails shooter. I'm actually quite surprised that they even went to an on-rails shooter. We all know on-rails shooters don't sell. And all the developers wonder why Wii games don't sell -- because they don't know what they're doing. Would this game be more hyped if it was a FPS? You betcha'. Take The Conduit, you think we'd all be as excited if it was an on-rails shooter? Fuck no. Sad face, and im a Wii fanboy.

No one knows how the minds of developers works sometimes. Though I'd be hard pressed to write this off just because it's a rails shooter. And I' am not saying that you must go out and get it because I think it'll be a fun game.

You have to admit though, this rails shooter does seem to be more deep than most in terms of story and even gameplay.

As a multi-platform gamer, I'll say this -- the game was awesome on the 360 and played to it's strengths, and looks to do the same on the Wii. It didn't just succeed as an FPS, it succeeded as a HORROR title. While some Wii-owners may be FPS-hungry, I think this is a perfect way to expand the Dead Space universe and advance the horror elements.

I think they're communicating it as a "guided first-person shooter experience" so that sites like this won't simply pidgeon-hole it as "another rails shooter on wii" (We've got what, half a dozen of those - oh_noes!) AND because it genuinely brings gameplay elements to the table that you wouldn't expect to fin in an arcade style on rails shooter.

It's just as fair a statement as Nintendo calling the early Metroid Prime titles "First Person Adventure" titles. Yes, they were first person, and yes you did shoot, BUT there were layers upon layers of added gameplay and Samus scanning functionality that genre-wise made it as akin to a traditional adventure/exploration title as to an FPS.

*sigh*

I'm trying Nintendo,i'm trying to hold on to your console. You better do what you can to get Fatal Frame 4 out here in North America SOON.

I'm okay with rail shooters - provided they have sufficient length. A lot of rail shooters are like three, four hours long - that's not enough for me because I'm not a 'rail shooter fan' who will play through each level 17 times to try to get a high score and all the pickups. If this game is decently long (in the ten-hour range) then great, I'll probably get it. If it's four hours long, then no.

I would still rather have a game where you can control your movement. (Even better, a game where you can do that and there's some strategy involved so you're not just essentially being led along a rail-shooter path... but yeah, baby steps...) But if they're not going to give us what we actually want then sure, if they make a decent, lengthy rail shooter I'll pick it up. This sounds like a pretty cool rail shooter so I'm happy to give it a chance but I'm not going to join the 'oh the graphics are nice and there are special weapons so it's okay that it's a rail shooter' crowd - no, it's still not okay. If it's good I'll buy it but I damn well wish somebody makes something other than a rail shooter next time they're considering 'what can we do for our Wii exclusive based on a series that's mainly designed for other platforms'.
