...and to think that we all had SUCH high hopes for this title.

I think the key of the LSL series of old, was that underneath the often crude sexual humor (granted humor as evolved in the last 20 years, so it's hard to judge) and themes that the series is known for, lied a very solid, puzzling, and entertaining adventure gaming experience. It's pretty sad that Lowe isn't in control of any of it anymore, and though it might still not be a 5 star game even if he were in charge, I bet it would be garner higher scores than that of a 28 on metacritic... It's just sad to see any classic franchise like this so beaten, abused, and buried like this.

hahahhahaha, hey Dirty, didn't I glimpse this on your gamercard? I was responding to an invite from Dark Wayne last evening on my laptop while I was watching a DVD and was poking around profiles on my friends list.

BUSTED!

It was so bad. It was awful. It was worse than Two worlds, the other game that scorches my gamer card with 10 gamerscore. They could have at least tried to make the character models a bit sexy.... oh how I miss outlaw golf and my stripper golfer and caddy.

At least I didn't buy it.

Sucks you can never delete games from your gamerscore. My brother said he'll kill me if I ever play Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 on his gamercard. : P

They took Leisure Suit Larry and marketed it towards the Spike TV / Maxim crowd. Way to ruin a franchise.

Reppy nailed it. I'm personally disappointed that gaming has dived headlong into the sewer in the past two years (try finding a new game that doesn't have R-rated language, for example). But when you try to use gratuitous smut to elevate a POS game, that's just pitiful.

You'd think they'd learned their lesson with Magna Cum Laude. People want a real LSL game, not a bunch of mini games to get some chick naked.

It wasn't about naked girls, it was about trying to get this little awkward fellow laid, and all the hillarious situations that follow in his pursuit of that. The games were hard as hell, but atleast you had to use your brain.

Why spend 60 dollars on polygon ass if you can google the real deal for free?

Yeah. As far as I can tell, the dev team thought that the original series was porn for it's time, and tried to make MCL and BOB into porn for our time. But yeah, that's never what the series has been about.

Actually there is no nudity in this game and it's only $20(pc)-$30(360). But yes, you're correct, fans would rather have a good old fashioned Al Lowe LSL.

I haven't played BOB, so I wouldn't know if there is nudity in it or not, to be honest with you.

I'm not going to play the game either, even if it was a somewhat decent game, out of principal that they should've had some involvement from Al Lowe, or at the very least his stamp of approval.

How do they expect me to buy a Leisure Suit Larry game when they raped it so badly I hardly recognize it anymore? My sympathies for Lowe for having to witness his brainchild feature in such a fucking monstrosity.

I miss sierra. OLD sierra. To explore a vast and detailed (especially at the time, but still today) world with funny quips, characters, and undeniable charm was amazing. But instead of continuing amazing and fun series' they killed off Kings Quest with the mediocre Kings Quest VIII, killed the amazing Space Quest series, killed the awesome Police Quest series, and gave poor Larry a fate much worse than death (and if you had played the earlier games, you would know he didn't have a swell life to begin with).

Codemasters, Activision, and all you foul companies who decided that nobody liked adventure games, that Shenmue was dull, that Grim Fandango was cheesy, or that the Secret of Monkey Island was unfunny, this is for you: PLEASE DIE OR GIVE ME MY ADVENTURE GAMES BACK. Because I miss them... ; _ ;

Agreed. I didn't even have any idea there was an VIII. Last one I'd touched was VI.

Even a few other non-adventure games of theirs were great; Jones in the Fast Lane anyone?

I miss em too man. I've found the DS to have a nice little revival going on though. The Phoenix Wright series really captured that adventuring gaming golden age feel to me yet having a feel all their own. Good stories, fun characters, some good tongue in cheek humor, etc. The upcoming "Perfect Prosecutor" spin off looks even more like the old point and clicks.

I also enjoy the current crop of Telltale games, but, man, what I wouldn't do for another SpaceQuest or Maniac Mansion, etc..

It always boggles the mind when I see people wearing nostalgia glasses for Sierra. The things I most remember them for are games with ridiculous conventional memory requirements needing both mouse and soundcard. And trial-and-error puzzles with ludicrous solutions. And Outpost, a game that shipped with two thirds of the features mentioned on the box and in the manual missing.

Just because MCL and BOB suck doesn't automatically make the old LSL games good.

Also, BOB is much, much, worse than MCL. MCL at least understood the "Larry tries to get laid with a varied assortment of girls." concept. BOB is a PG13 GTA clone without any real sidequests where all the girls you attempt to sleep with are exactly the same in looks, concept, and horrible southern drawl. If Leisure Suit Larry is Revenge of the Nerds, and MCL is Road Trip, BOB is the tv edit of the Road Trip direct to video sequel.

Anybody who began gaming on a PC with EGA graphics and old school Sierra games have earned the right to wear nostalgia glasses as much we want.

That this evolved into Outpost, which you mentioned, and I bought, was insanity. It wasn't a complete game, and it drove me nuts. The PC requirements were a little too taxing, and it was intriguing, yet meh overall.

I saw a friend playing it over Live last night and asked him about it. He said the writing was pretty good but game play and camera were terrible. His recommendation was that only hard core Larry fans might enjoy it because of the writing. On the plus side it is cheap, only $20 on pc and $30 on 360.

I should correct myself, it's actually $20 on the 360 as well, just not on Amazon. Gamestop sells it new for 20.

I couldn't agree less. Having played the new game I found the writing to be completely amatureish, the in-game physics to be great for a game marketed towards toddlers, and the camera control to be useless. The only reason you will find new games at $20 is if they put zero production money into it or they know it's just a POS game.

Any LSL fan will only find themselves dissapointed by this pathetic title and will only wish they could remove it from their games played list on xbox live.

I agree w/ Al Lowe. I was writing a LSL screenplay but then Magna Cum Laude came out and I ditched it becaused it ruined it all!!! After writing the screenplay I was going to run it past Al Lowe for his approval and blessing, but it all seems for naught now. Heck, even people making LSL games don't run it by the man. Maybe if we don't count them as LSL games like I don't count Episode 1-3 as being real Star Wars movies, I can bring the dream to life!!!

well, now we all know now why team 17 doesn´t do anything else but worms, they should be very thankfull with andy davidson (worms creator) for giving them that game. Otherwise i don´t think they´d have been able to survive until this days, the game sucks so much that at 20 is still a waste of money, the characters look like dead zombies, the game makes no sense, and they converted the original larry in a big old fat bucket of lard with a mob boss voice. I still remember when martyn brown said in the forums of team 17 that they were going to prove that they weren´t a one-trick horse.....well, guess he is right they are a one-trick worm.

He wasn't consulted for the other crappy game either. We emailed back and forth about it. Al is a really nice guy and he's really passionate about his work. I still think the black cauldron sierra game he made was amazing. I would love to see him do something new.
