You can't get new movies on HD-DVD so thats a moot point. If you are content with watching DVDs then why even buy the HD-DVD drive in the first place? I guess you didn't know the 360 can play DVDs w/o the HD DVD ad on. Go on Amazon and you can get pretty much any Blu-Ray movie for the same price of that (upscaled) DVD if not cheaper. In the rare instances that you will pay more it's because you didn't do any homework.

If MS had made the 360's standard HD DVD from the start then I would bet any amount of money the format war would be far from over if not in the favor of HD DVD because of the install base. Not to mention the fact that there wouldn't be a need for multi disc releases.

We have a handful of HD DVD movies from when we got a good deal on a standalone player and all it's really good for at this point is a DVD player. So, you essentially paid $17 for functionality you already had in the 360 to begin with.

The only good thing about that HD-DVD player is going on Amazon and buying up all the old defunct movies for less than $5. It's also pretty dumb to talk like everyone else also paid less than $20 for their HD DVD ad on.

If you live in the USA, in the state of California, be glad you don't have an HDTV. They are trying to make them illegal there. Because "they hurt the environment"

Man... California is full of crazy people...

Maybe if one of the games was Mass Effect and not Halo 3, I'll probably buy it.

Would be cool, but 2 rpgs wouldn't appeal to as many people. Plus Mass Effect is only 20 bucks these days.

If I were in your position and looking only at value I would opt for the Wii & PSP-2000/3000. The PSP has had so many wicked games already this year and later in the year it's only getting better with motorstorm, rock band, little big planet and assassins creed. The main reason I would say the Wii is because you already have a PS3 and you can get most of the same 360 games on PS3 & PC but Wii games can only be on the Wii. For as much shit as most of us (myself included) talk about the Wii sometimes it is a great party console and an awesome secondary console. Two consoles are always better than one especially another one that has most of the same games you already have access to on the PS3. To be honest I might even go with a new PSP-3000 & DSi with some new games.

The 360 is has some great games and all but I'm waiting for a redesign before I make that plunge again. If you do get a 360 be sure to buy an in store warranty so that you can exchange it for a new one instead of sending it in for a refurbished console.

don't listen to joshua. the psp is great. try and get a 2000 series if you can. they're very easily hackable. :D

CFW opens the psp up to a whole new world of games: homebrew. there are some real winners out there, and for free to boot! and as for commercial games, there are a bunch of great ones out and great ones coming. patapon 1 & 2 and jeanne d'arc are still some of my favorite games ever.

Yeah thats the new $399 80 GB HDD bundle with resistance 1 & motorstorm 1.

Both of those games are good titles but they aren't as good as the sequels. They are games that any PS3 owner worth his salt should probably own but I expect a new 80 GB bundle to be announced at E3. I'm guessing Little Big Planet will be the next game to get bundled. I would say Killzone 2 but thats probably too new and is selling very well right now.

Wait, why would I be upset that I already bought an Elite? I bought it a year ago - are you suggesting I'd have been happier waiting a year only to buy this bundle?

I don't think I've ever bought a console bundle anyway - they typically come with crap games. The fact that they are releasing an awesome bundle would make me definately consider it had I not purchased an elite yet, but I certainly don't have regrets about my purchase.

Truth be told this is also just a rumor. This hasn't even been confirmed. I wouldn't expect this to be announced until E3 anyway if it is accurate. Around that same time I expect Sony to bundle at least one new game like LBP or KZ2 with the $400 model.

"PS3 has no games man....of course God of War 3 is on the way"....wow. Every time a big release comes out, people always say that. And then the release comes and goes, and they're still saying it.

They said it with Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, GTAIV, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, and Resident Evil 5. And they'll still be saying it after God of War 3.

Just remember, the PS3 has more perfectly reviewed games than the 360. By that, I mean games they rated a 10. You can check Gamespot and IGN all-time reviews to verify that =)

They are discontinuing the Elite, are they not? It's a bang-up way to give it a send-off. Otherwise, i think it would be a bit too much if they were continuing the model. Both those games should be able to stand on their own for now.

Kids today have it fucking made! When I used to get a system it didnt come with a game! You had to buy one on top of the price of the system! And they didnt come with memory cards or fancy HDD built into them neither! Those were seperate too!

Plus when I got my Elite I got some crappy racing game and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Thank god for Bioshock and CoD4, or else it would have been a cold cold X-Mas.

I'm still waiting on a bigger HDD.. on a 120gb hdd I only have 19.5gb left.. on a mission to get the full 1000 (or as much of) before I delete them off.. think both Gears, Fifa 09 are keepers on there, with maybe Left 4 Dead (but that game gives me head aches), leaves 9 games to get done before the next wave of games start coming

I'd be interested in this for sure. My current 360 has already been sent back once for a RROD, although it's been over a year and it hasn't had any problems since. I am very close to the limit on my hard drive, though, with all the DLC coming out these days. I'd like to get the HDMI output of the Elite for sure. And lastly, I don't have either game in the bundle. Not really an FPS fan and I really didn't like the original Fable (although I usually like RPGs like that). Still, I've been considering getting the Elite anyway so I'd be an idiot to pass up a bundle with these 2 games if the rumor turns out to be true.

This is a good deal. Unfortunately the games will last at least a year and the console won't.

Nice try MS, but I'm still not buying your shitty hardware.

I don't believe that Microsoft would bundle these two games without raising the price considering that they are undoubtedly considered to be two of best games on the 360. Selling them by themselves would be money earned, considering most people buying a 360 for the first time is going to get Halo 3.

It's not so much the shitty hardware that I wouldn't get a 360. That's been taken care of with multiple CPU switches and a 3-year warranty. The problem for me is the ~ $5 Xbox Live fee.

To each his own I guess.

none of this bothers me although ive had an elite for quite some time, because of the BestBuy warranty i have. i must say i believe it is the best thing i ever invested in, its almost like leasing a console. around launch i remember, there were no pros so i bought a core and accessorized it as i saw fit, with a 20 gb hdd, a wireless controller (since they didnt come with them at the time) and component cables which to this day still pisses me off. the day my core finally red ringed was about a year or so after the elite had released, i brought it back with my warranty receipt which guaranteed me a replacement on the spot. when i was told they didnt have any cores in stock at the moment, i "settled" for an elite, and i only had to pay 150 more since the core was 300 when i bought it and the elite was 450 at the time. boy was that worth it. when my elite went about 5 or so months ago i took it back and low and behold i got an even newer elite with those damn indiana jones panda lego games. and when that one goes (which it surely will) i will be blessed with a second halo 3 and fable II, which will net me 10 gamestop bux or maybe some help at my next halo lan party. whats there to lose? besides the 70 dollars i spent on the plan in the beginning, which has saved me so much time and will eventually land me with even more games. (also if the price of the console goes down in that time i am reimbursed the difference.)

the moral of the story: to all yee who buy the Microsoft console, invest in a warranty at best buy.

I should have waited. I would much prefer Halo 3 and Fable 2 in my bundle over Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda.

Somewhere a Best Buy employee is still laughing at me.
