Hudson has apparently shipped two million copies of Deca Sports since last spring, reports Kotaku. Although one could say that's not so much given the time that's passed, it also means that people continue to purchase the badly reviewed -- well, mostly badly reviewed -- title. Raise your hand if you're guilty, another commenter will be there shortly to "deal" with you.
Oh well, folks certainly love their sports minigame bundles on the Wii. Imagine how much Deca Sports could have sold if it had Mario and Sonic in it.

I didn't need this article to tell me the general public is beyond retarded. I knew that years ago when I found out Fox News is/was the highest rated news network.

Really Off Topic of Post:
Fox news really gets bashed to hell on the internet doesn't it? I find it really ridiculous actually, because save for one or two people on the station, they really are a respectable station. The other stations spew out 10x more liberal bullcrap than Fox news spews out conservative. At least Fox tries to be balanced. Sometimes, they get carried away on certain stories, but for the most part, I respect them more than I respect, say, MSNBC.
On Topic:
Throw anything in a white case that says Wii on it and put cute characters on it and it will probably sell...Consumers that buy these games aren't educated in this sort of thing. If a 40 year old woman walks into a store to buy a birthday present for her nephew that's 13, and she knows he has a Wii....you think she's going to buy SSBB? Or Metroid? Or Madworld?! No, she's gonna buy a game with cute characters or mini-games thats rated E....It's just your typical consumer I guess

The first part of your post was one of the most ridiculous things I ever read...and yet your second part was spot on. I don't know what to say about it honestly.
How do you guys think I'm so good at deciphering BS? My dad and I used to watch Fox a lot and laugh at how absurd it is as a station. Specially now after Obama was elected, between the morning crew, Beck, O'reily, and Hannity they've just gone off the deep end.
In the words of Jon Stewart the other night: "I think you guys are confusing tyranny with losing. It's supposed to taste like a shit taco"

on topic: You act like no one tells there parents what to buy them. When I was a kid, I was able to get past the "Hi im inept so I bought you this game with purdy boxart" because I TOLD MY PARENTS SPECIFICALLY POINT BLANK WHAT I WANTED. And it wasn't any of that "I hear Perfect Dark is a pretty awesome game" bullshit you see kids doing on TV, it was a fucking list with words on it. If you didn't tell your parents what game you wanted to their face then you deserved the shit you ate as a child.

You know, I quit following any news networks long mainly because they are bullshit. But of them, Faux News is top of the hill, man. I mean even if you ignore their typical bullshit, I have the perfect example on why Fox News is nothing more than a realistic simulation of the Weekly World News. This happened about two years ago and sums up the entire network perfectly.
I was bored on a Saturday Afternoon and so I started watching the news. Anyone knows news doesn't break on a Saturday so most networks run their opinion pieces or weekly wrap ups. That day was no exception. I'm flipping through the channels and come across Fox with an urgent breaking newscast. I flipped to the others and saw nothing. Obviously this was major and Fox was the first on top of it. "Terror in the Bayou" flashed on scream and they cut to live footage of a drunk driver on a high speed chase... in Louisiana... on BACK ROADS. Amused greatly that this was a terrible shocking event instead of just some drunken creol out on a joyride as backwoods drinkers are known for, I continued to stay tuned. Amusingly, it was two cop cars total chasing down a 62 chevy pickup in a "high speed pursuit" under 60 mphs. During this entire 45 minute event before he finally pulled over and was arrested, I saw MAYBE 10 other cars, half were parked, during this dangerous rampage. This was NATIONAL FUCKING NEWS. This was some great big tragic event when even half of the local news programs even knew this happened. Hillbilly on a redneck rampage through a 45 minute death chase on gravel roads was their answer for a slow news day. And it fit soooooo perfectly. Fox makes stuff out of nothing and even the stuff they bill as important is worthless.
They are trashy lowest common denominator spinsters of the news media world. Of course I can't fault them on it. Hell, this is how the Hurst empire was built. I just don't have to take them seriously and I sure as hell won't respect them.

@Moptimus: A little harsh there, I said an "aunt" looking for something for her nephew. Obviously parents will know what to get their kids, but if your average consumer is just shopping for a present for someone that they aren't too close too, but are aware that they have a Wii...they're just gonna buy a game based on either the cover, the characters on it (like sonic), or the E rating. Trust me my whole family does this to each other...it's unbearable to watch.
@Markez:
Beck is a loon. But he does have some grounds in what he says, he always makes a decent correlation between history and our current situation (he's still a whackjob tho). And look, I take what every news station says with a grain of salt, I don't take what any station says as gospel, but sometimes FOX reports on things that other stations don't that actually ARE important, like the current situation in Mexico, or how our National grid was hacked by Russia and China "cyberspies"...I didn't see that on any other station. Either way I'm done with this topic before I become more hated on this website...I think I should move on...My time here was fun though :/

Did you watch the show at all? I actually saw it. He was doing a show on fascism and the road to it and the United States government right now. If you watched the other side (gasp!) you'd know Glenn Beck was not saying that. In fact he was very clear he was not saying it about Obama or Pelosi or even Frank. Even I, an evil right wing conservative republican watches NBC and Good Morning America to know what they are saying.

I sure did, and while he didn't explicitly state Obama = Hitler, everything about the presentation, innuendo, graphics, and the way they did it screamed "YOU SHOULD BE AFRAIID, OBAMA IS HITLER, WE'VE ELECTED HITLER" Beck isn't doing an edutainment special on PBS, he's very aware of what he's doing and is a savvy guy who loves to pander and push fear-mongering.

Is it really that shameful for a game to sell well? Especially when it's "poorly reviewed?" Since when should a handful of people's personal opinions direct the public's buying habits? Not everyone is going to like the same games. I say congrats to Hudson for doing well. I've never played it, but I think it's ridiculous for people to feel angry that it does well.

Isn't entirely true, Insight. I mean, it does set a bad example, for every Minigame collection that goes on to be a million seller (there can't be more than 6 or 8 of them among the 3rd party games), there are at least 20 that go on to obscurity. Deca Sporta sits amid at least a dozen or so copycat failures.
That is really the fools' gold that one guy was talking about, i think. Just because some party games got the formula right, many more got it wrong.

not really. Look at Majesco, if they didn't have the _____ Mama franchise, they'd be dead in the water. But now that they have guaranteed bank, they can focus on more risky adventures, like Blast Works or A Boy and His Blob. And while Hudson hasn't been quite as adventurous, they're now able to make a new Military Madness game for download services and stuff like Onslaught (and its cousin, Water Warfare).
I know its not really a balanced choice but would you rather have to ignore a game like Cooking Mama and buy the actual good games or have the publisher go out of business and have neither?

I'm sorry, but if you support Bob's game I cannot take your opinion seriously. And before you ask, yes I have had the misfortune to play it. The humor is crap, the graphics look like he stole the code from Habbo Hotel, the gameplay is your average flash RPG. If this was a DS game, I'd shoot the publisher stupid enough to make it.

Replace "games" with "entertainment" and "casual gamers" with "general public" and you pretty much nailed it.
Yes, that's what general public is like. They have money and they want more/diverse entertainment. There is nothing wrong with selling what is people want right now.
Some started comparing video games with movies. Well, extrapolating the analogy, Deca Sports is 11am TV show.

hey, they have their occasional non-shit diamonds.
Okay, so they have another studio develop a game then slap their logos on the box, BUT IT STILL COUNTS!

Wii sports is also a pile of crap. The bowling and to a lesser extent the tennis are the only ones worth playing and even those get old after a week.

I was optimistic at the time, and you're right. The 'stiq was indeed pimping this game, as were a number of other outlets. So the gaming media bitches and moans when they hype a game and give a bunch of attention to it like Zack & Wiki and it doesn't sell terribly well, and then they bitch and moan when they hype a game and it sells well.

I know I will get blanked for this but from what I have seen of Wii games since they began, Wii owners don't have very high standards. I mean look how many people brought Mario vs Sonic and that was crap squared.

This game was awesome IMO. Bought it on day one and love it. I don't play it much anymore but I should, it's a great game. It really is better than Wii Sports in some ways. It's really great. Too bad it didn't do well but oh well, I'm glad I bought it.

I'm curious how many of the posters here that are being negative toward this game, have actually PLAYED it and aren't going off just the reviews. It really is better than the reviews make it out to be. Only bad thing about it is the gay curling game and steering is hard at first on the kart racing but the rest is really fun. And btw, I own a PS3, PSP, and have owned 360, DS and just about every console ever made and have played thousands of games from the most popular to the least popular so I don't fit into the category of low standard having Wii owners but I do agree that's true.

I think most of us would be broke if we didn't have the ability to usually be able to tell when something is going to be absolutely terrible. Sometimes it's hard to tell, but other times (like this) it's easy as hell to figure out.

It isn't terrible though. It's a great game in comparison to most of the other minigame collections out there and like I said before in some ways it's better than Wii Sports. I mean I wouldn't give it a 10/10 but I'd say a 7/10 which to me is worth 30 dollars when I usually pay 60 dollars for PS3 games. I enjoyed this game and it's definitely fun with friends. However, I get your point, but at the same time bashing a game without having played it is stupid.

Maybe it isn't terrible for what it is but no matter how good it is I just can't get into these mini game compilations. They just seem like minimal effort cash-ins.
