The Grudge director working on Wii horror title, 'Feel'
Famitsu has revealed that Takashi Shimizu, director of popular Japanese horror films such as The Grudge, is working with AQ Interactive -- publisher of Bullet Witch, Vampire Rain and the canceled Cry On -- to create a new horror game for the Wii called Feel. Our cohorts at Joystiq Japan -- PSA: There's a Joystiq Japan now -- tell us that Shimizu will serve as the game's "horror adviser," so we expect plenty of creepy, crawly Onryo. The game has players exploring a haunted house using the Wii remote as a flashlight. Apparently the flashlight battery also serves as the player's health meter, though we're not sure exactly how that would work.Feel supports up to two players and is scheduled to hit Japanese Wiis this summer.

Hopefully it sees the light of day outside Japan. Thats right Fatal Frame 4, we're looking at you!
Uncontrol @ Apr 10th 2009 4:25AM
uh bigger news is that joystiq has a fucking japanese site now?
Courtney @ Apr 10th 2009 9:24AM
Archive seems to go back to about one month ago and looks like they have just two writers.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Apr 10th 2009 1:17PM
One of them's Jonti Davies... who I recall posting on the English Joystiq... but looks like his last post here was two years ago (was about Kororinpa being made for Japanese cellphones).
ramuji @ Apr 10th 2009 5:04AM
Heeeeey! Joystiq Japan. Cool. *bookmarked*

Wow, man. Best call ever. I wish I could be as cool as you. UPVOTED
RiccochetJ @ Apr 10th 2009 5:46AM
Hopefully the game is more like Ju-On instead of the abysmal The Grudge.
Seriously, I saw The Grudge first and I thought it was the dumbest thing I'd seen in a theater that year. Then later my friend shows me Ju-On and I had to sleep with a light on!
Same f'n director. and the f'n American studios watering it down for our consumption and... (RAGE!!!!)
*Sigh*
And on top of that Nintendo of America probably won't let this game into our continent just like Fatal Frame 4. (MORE RAGE!!!!)
Great Golem+ @ Apr 10th 2009 6:34AM
Ju-On is just a weak copy of Ringu (The Ring).
RiccochetJ @ Apr 10th 2009 7:23AM
That's like saying Jason Vorhees is a copy of Miichael Myers. Yes it technically is, but now we view it as the slasher genre. That's the way I view Ringu and Ju-On. As a genre. Some are done really well such as Ringu and Ju-On, where others are complete and utter... well you know.
If you want to see an OK (not great) implementation of the genre, take a look at One Missed Call by Takashi Miike (Not the US version). It's actually pretty decent but if you watch it, you will definitely get a better appreciation for Ju-On and Ringu. Much like the classic slashers from the US. Of course, this is all my opinion :D
esposch @ Apr 10th 2009 7:41AM
The only Jason Vorhees movie I've seen was Jason X, and god knows how but I somehow managed to watch it to the end. Actually, I think I do know how I managed to watch the whole thing: I was 13 at the time ;).
The only other horror movies I can remember seeing were Freddy vs. Jason (lol), The Ring (meh), and The Village (LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL). Them and Saw, which was actually good. Then I saw saw 2. (pun XD)
But the Village, you can't get any worse than that for a horror film, except for maybe the Silent Hill movie, directed by Uwe Boll.
Great Golem+ @ Apr 10th 2009 8:00AM
Takashi Miike, the guy that made Ichi The Killer? This sounds promising, i will try and get a hold of this movie.
I actually think the Silent Hill movie was ok. :)
MLS @ Apr 10th 2009 8:18AM
Ju-on was garbage. Granted, The Grudge was way worse, but the original still had no plot, just a whole lotta ghost HAX.
Japan makes terrible horror movies. Outside of Kurosawa and Beat Takeshi, the only thing I've seen their film industry succeed in is campy violence. Korea makes the best horror films.
Their horror games are wonderful though. I loves me some Fatal Frame.
8-bit.artist @ Apr 10th 2009 11:35AM
there is a general rule you dont watch any of m. night shamalangadingdongs movies besides the 6th sense.
Petebot330 @ Apr 10th 2009 12:10PM
Hey! Unbreakable's pretty good.
esposch @ Apr 10th 2009 7:47PM
Whoops, my mistake. The Silent Hill film isn't directed by Uwe Boll, but I could swear he was making a new one. Or maybe a horror film from a different license.
manaman @ Apr 10th 2009 7:36AM
I can see that,
It wouldn't be so much the idea that your life energy runs out alongside the flashlight battery but that once your flashlight battery dies, you're up a creek--so game over!
But I'm not really into this type of game,

gordo @ Apr 10th 2009 7:41AM
US localization to feature whack-a-ghoul mini-games and baby ghost sim.
Avoli @ Apr 10th 2009 8:16AM
Another horror game that probably won't make it state side. Is it cool it's coming onto the Wii, sure. I'll be even more impressed when I hear it being localized though.
samfish @ Apr 10th 2009 8:51AM
Wii is the go-to system for horror games now.
In particular, horror games that'll never see a western release.
Mr Khan @ Apr 10th 2009 2:00PM
I saw your E3 worst case scenario over on GoNintendo. Actually didn't seem too bad.
Moptimus Slime (Gobot in disguise) @ Apr 11th 2009 2:59AM
wait, Samfish writes for GoNintendo?
esposch @ Apr 12th 2009 7:12PM
No, he just posted in the comments.
Here's what he said:
And now, though, I present to you all…
SAMFISH’S E3 WORST CASE SCENARIO
1) Wii Sports Resort detailing (it’s guaranteed to be there front ‘n’ center)
2) Sin & Punishment unveiling (this is good new, but…)
3) Wii Fit Plus (or whatever it was called)
4) Zelda Spirit Tracks detailing and release window
5) Kid Icarus (which turns out to be Man Icarus)
6) Pikmin 3 tease (we’ll be extremely lucky to see this)
7) Metroid Prime 1 and 2 Wiimakes get dated for the US
Pikmin 3 and Kid Icarus wouldn’t be bad, but at this point they’re essentially nothing new. Both potentially very good news, but Kid Icarus is expected and to an extent lacks an element of surprise by now.
Pikmin 3 is also known…and I GUARANTEE you that Pikmin 3 will be the next Animal Crossing if the conference goes bad. IE- it’s a game that “hardcore” gamers were clamoring for prior to it’s announcement and then they savagely turn on it and declare it to be casual crap, etc etc.
So yeah. A total lack of surprise would basically equal failure, since surprises are what ‘wins’ E3 every year.
I GOT UNTIL JUNE TO LOWER MY EXPECTATIONS. DON’T TRY AND STOP ME, PEOPLE!
trE @ Apr 10th 2009 10:19AM
This game aint coming to the US. I wish i could mark a whole articlea s spam.
That Fuzzy Bastard @ Apr 10th 2009 10:28AM
Oh boy---another cool Wii game that the US will never get!
Shagittarius @ Apr 10th 2009 11:22AM
Wii Feel by Pedosoft.
Highlar @ Apr 10th 2009 11:30AM
I'm always up for another good survival horror game. And from Matt's preview of Silent Hill Shattered Memories (http://wii.ign.com/articles/971/971316p1.html), I'm really getting a bit more optimistic after being shot down from my Fatal Frame 4 cloud by Reggie and NOA. :)
Damitol @ Apr 10th 2009 12:08PM
So - do you also enjoy showing a picture of a steak dinner to starving people or driving an exhausted hitchhiker 30 feet before kicking him out of the car? Reggie and NoA, in the infinite wisdom, know that Americans are too stupid and ADD addled to play a horror survival game. Unless something happens every 3 seconds that somehow involves tossing a beanbag into a clown’s open mouth, we would never spend money on such a game. Horror games move too slowly and don’t include Wii Music friendly tunes in their soundtrack, so we Americans don’t want anything to do with them. Why even report on their existence? Right?
My pants got so tight when I saw the clips from Fatal Frame IV many months ago, and although I had all but given up on it ever coming east, Reggie’s recent “Screw you and go buy My Sims Party instead” announcement opened up some old wounds about it.
So – now that my sarcasm bitterness are out of the way, this looks very promising. I loved Ju-On and even enjoyed The Grudge, so I look forward to watching the trailers for this game - but I refuse to get excited about it until someone confirms a real chance of localization.
Reggie – if I promised to buy “Happy Pony Party Wacky Game Time Fun” for $100, would you promise to include a “free” localized Fatal Frame IV with it? Let me know and I will FedEx the cash to you today.
The Alex @ Apr 10th 2009 12:04PM
Wait, what? These guys made Vampire Rain and Bulletwitch and we're supposed to be even slightly excited?
...
My theory on the flashlight bit: Maybe the baddies have to avoid light, and will only attack in complete darkness, much like the Kryll (or was it Shryll, I forget) in Gears of War.
Mr Khan @ Apr 10th 2009 12:16PM
Hopefully somebody decides to pick this up. It'd be a ready compliment for the loss of Fatal Frame IV (though we still don't know who was lying/misinformed in the Fatal Frame IV thing, Reggie or the Tecmo rep. People just believe the last thing they hear, is all)
bm @ Apr 10th 2009 12:53PM
The european release is still up in the air apparently (yay for us), so at least there's still a chance of seeing it in english.
