What is that expansion was content that you had to download? If the content was downloadable, if you will. Perhaps one might put it as 'downloadable content'. Would that still bug you?

The only difference is you're not getting the content on a disc. If you want it to be on one that badly, wait, and they'll likely release a GoTY version.

Personally, I much prefer having games updated more frequently with content, rather than waiting for expansions that don't add in much more than what a single piece of DLC does.

@Veal
I dunno what I would do if I had to download the expansion, I've never run into that situation before.

@Snowblind
When I bought Frozen Throne, I considered it buying an addition to a game that I already had. If buy a GotY edition, I am very aware that I am buying the new content along with the old game. So, if I have already bought the game, I'm wasting money rebuying it. Otherwise I could just wait to buy the game until the GotY comes out. Both options blow.

And if your expansions don't add much more than a DLC, either you got some amazing DLC, or some crappy expansions.

Then you should try what I'm doing. Right now, I'm just in waiting mode until the final DLC is released (Broken Steel). Then download all three. It costs about as much as an expansion pack, and it should add about as much content as an expansion pack (7-10 hours, level expansions, new baddies, new items).

Funny you mention "DLC" and "Bugs" in the same sentence, esp. coming from Bethesda.

Love their games, but man, they can be some glitchy bastards.

I'm with Rabidkeebler, Had the game since Dec., but haven't played beyond the point where you get to Megaton right after getting out of the vault. Having all 3 downloaded when I'm just starting the game should be pretty rad.

Also, I hope if there are any SPOILERS in this thread, that people are using one o' these -------> SPOILERS, because I want to read through this thread to see what other people are saying :P

no not digestible like horse armor. like the post said, digestible like knights of the nine, something that adds several hours of game play but takes only a couple of months to make.
btw please read articles fully before posting the last thing you should want is to look like an idiot (i should know i've done it before and have learned from my mistakes, i hope)

As long as the DLC actually adds something unique and meaningful to the game, I actually quite like small, digestible add-ons. For instance, I was pretty disappointed with Operation Anchorage because it really only gave you the Winterized Power Armor which was just a crappier version of the power armor you could find in the regular game but I liked The Pitt because the ammo refinery was a neat new feature.

The bottom line is as long as the DLC adds a few hours to the gameplay and incorporates something new that makes it worth it, I like it.

Winterized Power Armour is the same as the T51b (which is the best power armour in the game), except with huge item HP.

i agree with MattKing. Anchorage, though good, was pretty crappy because you just got retextures of items already in the game. The gauss rifle is awesome but unless you have the PC version it's buggy (mods came out to make the gun more useful in the PC version)

In the Pitt we got an awesome new weapon a great new feature and a bunch of new armors. not to mention a longer and more falloutish storyline.

Though as much as the little things are nice, i'd like to see a full 10+ hour expansion by the end of the year or next year. just one last little trip in before TES 5 and Fallout 4.

Mmm, I'm not sure about your second line. I guess "everywhere" could be stretched out to 4 syllables to make it work but I think it's more naturally pronounced as just 3.

This is just some lame excuse to put out half-ass content and then nickle and dime the consumer. They need to quit being douches and put out a real expansion. As I see it, "takes so damn long to do" translates into "I've got a colossal stick in my ass but I still want your money".

Small and digestible and every couple of months is good for me, as long as it's good, few new items and achievements, i'm happy.

I'm not quite qualified to speak as a Fallout fan just yet. I quit playing Fallout until I finish Bioshock, and then had to work out of town for a month or so, thus I haven't even completed Fallout, or Bioshock for that matter (though I hear perhaps I shouldn't complete Fallout if I really want to complete it).

As a gamer, my philosophy on DLC/expansions is still undetermined. Based on my playing habits and patterns, I would think that these small quickies would be much more suited to the companies that make the A-AAA titles bottom lines. By the time Shivering Isles was released, I had long moved on and lacked any desire to reopen the case for Oblivion. I didn't bother with the Lost and the Damned because of the same reason, though that may one day get my dime as I typically pick up GTA again after 6-8 months of stagnation. Fable II's DLC didn't grab me because I had beaten it once (and once was enough for me, only because I only have so much time in a day) and already traded it in.

Point being, I haven't typically picked up an expansion because I've moved on. What usually gets my money is map packs for multiplayer. Even when I don't typically agree with the value (Treyarch for shame- 3 1/2 maps for ten bones) I buy them so I can play with the people I play with all the time. There is an obligation.

I think Fallout's deal with not being able to continue on after the campaign by introducing it as DLC is their way of giving us that obligation. Overall its a good idea. When I pick up the game again, I'm probably picking up the DLC.

Why are you referring to Fallout 3 as simply Fallout? There are other games in the series y'know, and playing one of them doesn't make you a fan.

I think because Fallout 3 is sadly much more popular than 1/2, most will just call it Fallout. Bethesda had the budget to make it more popular and especially with Elder Scrolls tied to their name. But Black Isle (makers of 1/2) have made other excellent RPGs but their name isn't big, especially since their games were PC exclusive whereas there are far more console players and so Bethesda also caters to them.

I think this is a fine way of doing what, what they've released so far is still pretty big. However, it's still too expensive for what it was. I haven't played the Pitt yet, but Operation Ancorage was certainly not worth a full 800 points.

Fable did the same thing with Knotwhole Island, they released a fairly sizable amount of new content, but it wasn't really worth the price. But at least they've taken that on board and the next pack is only 500 which is a far more reasonable price for content of this size.

I'd rather have a massive expansion like shivering isles.

that was the best piece of DLC i've ever bought.

if people dont want to spend that long making such a massive area, atleast make it a longer quest. 2-3 hours is lame. I want to enjoy a story properly.

@max: If this were EA we were talking about I would tend to agree. How many games out there give you as much content as Oblivion and Fallout 3 on disc? These guys go way beyond the extra mile.

It's not really a rip off. Knights of the Nine was 10$, just like Fallouts dlc. Their bigger expansion, Shivering Isles was 30$.

Also the Pitt might have been broken at first, but look how long it took them to fix it. Maybe 48 hours. Versus Epic and gears 2. Bethesda is one of the last good devs out there.

I would like to see them work on something bigger in tandem with more smaller dlcs, just because I have Mass Effect syndrome and I don't want to wait years for something new to come out if ever.

I'd rather see a game that works! They are so worried about DLC that glitches and bugs in the main game are not an issue with them. I bought fallout for PC and I have yet to play it for more than an hour, because it crashes all the time. And bethesda support never has an answer for me.

Have you considered that it may be your PC? I've been playing F3 on my PC for about 45 hours of gameplay and I've yet to encounter a single crash. There have been bugs in the quests, but not crashes or showstoppers that keep me from continuing the game...

I agree most games I buy for my 360 are totally solid, Gears of War 2 only shipped with broken matchmaking but the game part was solid.

Fallout 3 has been the only game that has caused outright 360 crashes, glitching/falling through the map & and noticable frame drops (the pitt).

Love the game, but ship Fallout 4 solid please ^_^

oh and the longer DLC is the better for us all.

I am all for small digestible chunks (i wish Valve was all for it too...were the bloody hell is Ep3?!).

But the DLC are so not worth the price. The story is not that great. It is hardly enjoyable. The items are okayish. Were is the bang for the buck? Make small games sure, but make it worth it. Or make it cheaper.

Yup, zero punctuation really hit it on the head about the orange box. Summed up, he said Valve has steps one and two for "episodic gaming" down, shorter games with lower prices, but still struggles with three, shorter times between release. But without a doubt valve is one of, if not the best developer out there. Between the Half life series, team fortress 2, portal, and left 4 dead, there is not one game out of those six that falls short of incredible. Add in the fact that they sold five of those in one box for normal retail price, CONTINUE to update team fortress after over a year of it being out FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, and are going to update left 4 dead for free as well, and you have one hell of a standard for the rest of the gaming industry.

I don't see a problem with DLC. Developers and publishers can distribute and charge for whatever they want. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

The problem is that if I don't like the way they're doing things and I don't buy it, I have to do without it instead of just having everything I should have from the beginning. My choices are to pay extra or miss out on part of the game. Either way, it sucks.

Though there's plenty of DLC out there that's actual extra stuff and not just stuff that was withheld from the game. That kind is a-ok by me. *massages MGS LBP pack*
