Wow, these are very cool. Really dig the Viewtiful Joe & Galaxy box art, and all of them actually.

Big lol @ a game by Peter Molyneaux

that grim fandango boxart is my favorite so far, along with the bioshock one that they have in the picture for the article and the second shadow of the colossus one.

If you guys want more, Giantbomb did a post about Books as Games, in the same style as the Bioshock cover. They're all beautiful.

this is probably the only one that really, REALLY captures the essence of the game it represents

http://i43.tinypic.com/10p8ug9.jpg

on the other hand, this one misses it almost completely

http://i41.tinypic.com/rsao7r.jpg

and this one is just MADE.OF.WIN.

D: shit, now that I saw what the Gold image looks like, I don't know which to pick. They're both equally awesome. :D

I'll probably stick with katamari, just because its a little more abstract.

The SOTC cover on page 2 is incredible. It's amazing that freaking GAF can come up with infinitely better covers than well paid "professionals".

Well, except for Ueda's PAL/Jap territory cover of Ico. I don't think anyone will be topping that any time soon.

we really need something similar to the criterion collection. it's literally impossible to find some classics i missed for a semi-reasonable price. and the shadow of the colossus covers were BEAUTIFUL.

of course, it couldn't be done like what criterion does to movies because we would have to be able to play them on modern consoles. unless they packed in a perfectly working emulator. and even then, in many cases, the controls would have to be updated to be suitable for modern gamers i.e. Goldeneye which hasn't aged well if you played it recently.

haha i never said it wasn't. it's just that the controls are archaic now. it's still a fantastic game that reminds me of long saturday nights with friends searching for the golden gun. good times, good times...

I believe you can plug in two controllers and change the settings in the game to allow you to use both of them for dual analogue-like controls (using the analogue stick on each).

Nintendo should take all the most popular games from the Virtual Console, call them the "Classic Collection" and replace the channel thing with those boxart mock ups.

Also, "Criterion Collection" and "Semi reasonable price" do not play nice with each other.

It's only really PC games that already have this. For a start, you've got the collections by companies like Sold Out and Mastertronic (I used to buy so many of those, they were all I could afford with pocket money) of old classics for £5-10.

Secondly you've got the digital distribution services like Steam, D2D and GoG.

I love buying PS1 classics off the PS3 store and only wish they could do the same thing for PS2 games, or expand their selection a bit. I think what the Wii's virtual console is doing is fantasic but again the selection needs to be much wider.

Maybe.
