Microsoft job listing hints at mobile Halo project

What does that mean, exactly? The listing doesn't go into as much details as we'd like, but it does say the job will blend, "console, web, and mobile to create an immersive Halo world that follows the dedicated Halo fan wherever they go." Our thoughts first went to iPhone integration of Bungie.net and future Halo community endeavors but then we realized that Microsoft may want to keep whatever mobile application it may be creating on Windows Mobile-based phones. We're hoping for our future-phone having selves that this isn't the case.
[Thanks, Dan!]

Windows-mobile phones? I can see the headlines now:
"Mobile Halo sold a whopping 7 copies."
F1: Basu Gasu Bakuhatsu @ Apr 12th 2009 12:08PM
You forgot to add a few zero's.
rTwelve @ Apr 12th 2009 12:21PM
*000.7 copies
ANTCEP @ Apr 12th 2009 12:22PM
"Mobile Halo sold a whopping 0007 copies."
The Alex @ Apr 12th 2009 12:08PM
If the price is right (as in free), I'd love to see some Xbox Live/Bungie.net integration on Windows Mobile.
swartzmi @ Apr 12th 2009 12:09PM
Windows mobile has deeper penetration than iphone os... sooooo deeeeeep.
iFester @ Apr 12th 2009 12:09PM
I'm putting 2 and 2 together.

Conor @ Apr 12th 2009 12:25PM
I think your onto something!
DeoWulf @ Apr 12th 2009 9:23PM
That's exactly what I'm thinking. Microsoft doesn't NEED the iPhone, they're coming out with a nice touchscreen device themselves. And what better way to make a Zune sell than loading it up with an exclusive Halo game?
cosmicthoughts @ Apr 12th 2009 9:25PM
Agreed. MS see a Halo Tie-in as the perfect shot in the arm for the Zune franchise.
Gemini Ace @ Apr 13th 2009 9:05AM
Since the PSP will probably have a touch screen, this is the logical next evolution of the Zune. How well a Halo game will play on it is anybody's guess. FPS on the iPhone are less than stellar right now. I could see Halo Wars on the ZuneHD.
DeoWulf @ Apr 13th 2009 12:27PM
Halo Wars would work well. One thing I noticed is that the HD has a very wide screen. I imagine they could put virtual controls on either side of the screen and still have a good amount of space left for the game. Also, they could have it wirelessly interface with a 360 controller!
PICKLEBOY @ Apr 15th 2009 3:50PM
wow, Microsoft knows how to be original.... losers
DeoWulf @ Apr 14th 2009 5:10PM
You can either be original or you can beat them at their own game. This thing is packing Tegra. We're not talking faux-2D Super Monkey Ball here.
Mitsuo @ Apr 12th 2009 12:09PM
why the hell do they have microphones? their 5 ft apart! ~_~
yolarrydabomb @ Apr 12th 2009 12:29PM
EDIT: Edited for use of derogatory terms.
spmbx @ Apr 12th 2009 12:56PM
Conference call????
Reader @ Apr 12th 2009 2:15PM
Your first thought was that they were using the mics to communicate to each other? Nice.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 12th 2009 12:19PM
MS is gonna whore out Halo so bad they'll make Activision look like saints.
Mitsuo @ Apr 12th 2009 12:26PM
I think you meant to say Square Enix.
Xvnine @ Apr 12th 2009 1:31PM
All the FF games have no relation to the prior what so over, besides the name.
Jinsenken @ Apr 12th 2009 7:11PM
Xvnine there's a call for you on line 2, it's the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.
You also got an email from the Ivalice Alliance, a text message from Fabula Nova Crystallis FFXIII, and someone named Crystal Chronicles wants to set up a meeting tomorrow.
Oh, and one more thing, a friend of Final Fantasy named Kingdom Hearts wants to know if you can watch his kids for a little while.
Rhamsey @ Apr 12th 2009 12:43PM
does anyone remember the fake halo ds game? id still love to play halo on the ds, as long as its like moon, thats a fun fps
Young_Jey @ Apr 12th 2009 1:03PM
So I was just wondering, any game/app that works on the iPhone can work on the iPod Touch, right?
mgsrocks1 @ Apr 12th 2009 1:59PM
Most of the apps work on on both, but some are still iphone only maps because they take advantage of what the iphone has over ipod touch. For example, there is an Xbox Live app on the app store that is only for iphone.
Delirium @ Apr 12th 2009 2:16PM
Whoo, can't wait for more 'exploration of the franchise'.
Dan @ Apr 12th 2009 2:22PM
If one more person tells me I should get an iPhone i'm gona shoot them. I like Windows Mobile thanks very much. And I don't really want to go backwards and only be able to run ONE APP AT A TIME. My calculator runs mores apps at one time than the ^#$^@^$#.
Phew rant over!
rambodude72 @ Apr 13th 2009 12:49PM
if you jailfix your iphone it can run multiple apps i love it
Ben Gilbert @ Apr 12th 2009 7:12PM
"IdiotPhone?" Yeah? Really? We've gotten to this point already? *Sighs and calmly deletes word and adds it and its derivatives into the ban bin*
Anyone know of any versions of that for BlackBerry? I'll happily ban those too. Thanks folks!
j.howlett @ Apr 12th 2009 7:38PM
crackberry?
alindy @ Apr 12th 2009 5:03PM
Microsoft has released an iphone app already, though it was not a game. It was Seadragon mobile a photo viewer.

The sound of Microsoft milking their only half descent exclusive franchise.

Deezul @ Apr 12th 2009 5:57PM
Apple has beat the "iXXX" naming convention to death. Hey Apple, 1999 called. It's wants its naming convention back. iPod, ITouch, iPhone, iMac. Just be honest with your next product name - iFanboy.
Daniel Baker @ Apr 12th 2009 7:20PM
Hey I was just saying Mr Gilbert as your post blatantly slags of Windows Mobile.
But obviously the iPhone is untouchable eh...
Str84rumBk @ Apr 13th 2009 10:14PM
dude i agree. personally i hate anything that has to deal with microsoft being they try to monopolize the electronic industry. thats why i am and always be a sony&apple fanboy. also i love their products. besides that you know this "zune HD" will be an epic fail being apple put a patten on the multi-touch touchscreen.
Zac @ Apr 12th 2009 7:52PM
I love Halo and would play this every day!
mike @ Apr 13th 2009 12:59AM
Get your stylus ready iiiiiiiiiiiits WINMO 6.5!
Duh duh duh!
Oh Microsoft. Why do you hate technology so....?
jayesh @ Apr 13th 2009 6:57AM
I sense a microsoft portable handheld announcement at e3!
DeoWulf @ Apr 13th 2009 12:29PM
Or killing two birds with one stone- http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/10/is-this-the-zune-hd/
maxpontiac @ Apr 13th 2009 2:44AM
Lets see, if MS is indeed planning to Halo-ize everything -
Does this mean we can expect a "Halo Hyper Racing" when Gran Turismo 5 launches? (Being how they timed the release of Halo Wars when Killzone 2 came out)
pibs @ Apr 13th 2009 4:41AM
The whore wagon hasn't lost a wheel I see...
Halo my Eggo!
PICKLEBOY @ Apr 13th 2009 4:04PM
Microsoft people are dirt bags man! they should make it for iphone, but they definitely wont because they believe that Microsoft is better than Apple.... yeah ok! well it would be nice to have halo on iphone/itouch maybe bungie will do it!
Jon @ Apr 14th 2009 4:02PM
before you go around bashing microsoft, dont forget that this is a rumor. they have not officially announced it yet and so there are no official positions yet.
Tim Layton @ May 11th 2009 8:41AM
Whether Halo comes to windows mobile 6.5 or not and if so, whether it is on a MS device, not sure it matters and all of this is speculation. However, we do know for sure that several manufacturers are going to deliver very large and beautiful touchscreen windows mobile 6.5 phones. I have always said that MS needs to take more control of the user experience either by licensing or OEM'ing their own touchscreen windows mobile phone. With the official release of windows mobile 6.5 tomorrow and then the soon to be release into the market we will all be enjoying the many new upgrades and updates on sleeker and more innovative phones from people like HTC, LG, Samsung, Toshiba and others. It just keeps getting better and better.
