id Software promises 'new stuff' at E3

In the same interview, Hollenshead offers some new information about two id projects that seem likely for E3, in addition to the unannounced games. Rage is apparently going to be super-massive, at least in terms of file size: "The game, ultimately, when it's done on our servers, will be huge. I don't know, 100GB?" id expects the game to fill a Blu-Ray, and span multiple DVDs on 360 and PC. Doom 4 is "not a sequel to Doom 3, but it's not a reboot either." Despite the 4 in the title!

A magical green glowing Nazi... I'm sure this title could turn out fine and all, but please let Wolfenstein die... I mean the original came out ages ago. I was playing 4 player dial-up games of Doom while this was still relevant.
kevinski @ Apr 13th 2009 10:04PM
I love Wolfenstein. I'm always interested in seeing a new installment come along.
WiredKnight @ Apr 13th 2009 2:53PM
Doom 4 as a....prequel? Maybe?
Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 13th 2009 5:41PM
doom 4 as a completely unrelated plot in the same universe as the other dooms.
WiredKnight @ Apr 13th 2009 10:48PM
Works for me.
Cosmo @ Apr 13th 2009 2:56PM
Make a Commander Keen game you bastards, same with you Epic, make a new Jazz Jackrabbit game. Forget all the "hardcore" games like Quake, Doom, Gears, Unreal, etc.
Zeus.:God @ Apr 13th 2009 5:14PM
That's what I've been saying for quite some time... I miss those games. :(
This_Time @ Apr 13th 2009 5:49PM
I would play a Jazz Jackrabbit game. I might even play more of it than the demo!
NaeemTHM @ Apr 13th 2009 2:57PM
Sweet zombie Jesus! 100GB game?! Knowing Carmack it won't be uncompressed audio or 9 hours of cutscenes.
The Baron @ Apr 13th 2009 4:21PM
I think what they seem to be suggesting is that it's gigantic environment textures, rather than repeating assets.
I don't understand why this 'innovation' is necessary or whether it's even going to be a better game as a result of it. I'm a PC gamer, so if the only advantage of a 100GB install over a 10GB one is that if I stare at the floor one patch doesn't look the same as another, then count me out.
I know TAICHI! @ Apr 13th 2009 3:06PM
more generic id first person shooters? SIGN ME UP!!! that's just what the videogame industry needs.
offday @ Apr 13th 2009 4:32PM
Please do tell. What does the industry need? More pet simulators and exercise games? Read up on your video game history. id helped to define the FPS genre.
Zeus.:God @ Apr 13th 2009 5:17PM
No, I'm pretty sure they DEFINED the FPS genre.
kevinski @ Apr 13th 2009 10:05PM
Erm...I have this feeling that a lot of people are letting nostalgia do the talking. What's id done recently that's been notable and memorable?
WiredKnight @ Apr 13th 2009 10:51PM
@kevinski
What have you done recently that's significant and memorable?
Just wait for Tech 5. You'll eat your words.
MystileArmor @ Apr 13th 2009 3:07PM
"not a sequel to Doom 3, but it's not a reboot either."
Obviously, it's a rebootquel!
Ryguy226 @ Apr 13th 2009 3:12PM
I think you're on to something with that term! For god's sake, trademark that ASAP!
NaeemTHM @ Apr 13th 2009 3:15PM
It's like the The Incredible Hulk!
Not quite a reboot, not quite a sequel: The Incredible Hulk
Will Doom 4 also star Ed Norton? INSTANT PURCHASE
MystileArmor @ Apr 13th 2009 3:29PM
I'll trademark it... at first it will be great, then after 10-some years I'll bring it back, and a couple of years later I'll add super special powers where you can shoot lightning and stuff like that, and I forsee no one will bother with it.
Oh.. wait...
The Baron @ Apr 13th 2009 4:23PM
Example! Tomb Raider: Legend is a rebootquel.
It's a reboot, but a sequel to a remake of the original game.

fred @ Apr 13th 2009 3:22PM
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH...i'llshutupnow...
Cornelius @ Apr 13th 2009 4:06PM
It'll fit on a quad-layer BD disc.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Apr 13th 2009 4:16PM
wasnt even aware they had those in production yet....
Reader @ Apr 13th 2009 4:22PM
Maybe it'll ship on a USB HDD.
WorMzy @ Apr 13th 2009 4:41PM
It'll just be electronically distributed.
I hope.
Zeus.:God @ Apr 13th 2009 5:16PM
100 gigs for a download? Holy shit- I don't wanna' think about the number of days it would take me to download that.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Apr 13th 2009 6:05PM
download tho???
WORST ATTEMPT AT SARCASM EVER!!!!
WorMzy @ Apr 14th 2009 3:13AM
I'd rather download it then have to buy a BluRay drive that I'd only ever use once. ;D
Spiza @ Apr 13th 2009 3:20PM
How about a sequel to Return to Castle Wolfenstein? This "Wolfenstein" game will be crap and is nothing like the great RTCW.
alu @ Apr 13th 2009 4:35PM
yes please, i'd kill for a proper followup to W:ET. ET:QW kinda sucked cuz they were stuck with the crummy doom3 engine.
shit, W:ET Live would be awesome.. bring it back
MarioSpitza @ Apr 13th 2009 4:14PM
100GB? Meh, id is talking about the game uncompressed. In a 2008 interview with Shacknews, they mentioned that the uncompressed build was 1TB.
Still, considering many versions of the game will require two discs with the exception of the PS3, I'm guessing it may still be an impressively large game after compression is finished. 8-9GB?
DeadPlasmaCell @ Apr 13th 2009 4:58PM
I'd love to see a HD Remake of Wolfenstein 3D for XBLA & PSN. Been playing the hell out of it on my iPod Touch, so fun.
Shadow Hog @ Apr 13th 2009 6:30PM
It's not a sequel to Doom 3, but not a reboot either.
...clearly it's a sequel to Doom 2! A new, official Doom 2-styled Doom game! Like Mega Man 9, but Doom!
