The Department of Defense is launching the Nintendo Wii as a weapon against head injuries, according to the Huffington Post. At Fort Campbell's newly opened brain injury center, soldiers are being put through a "battery of tests" to measure different cognitive functions before and after deployment -- specifically in cases of potential traumatic brain injury (TBI).
The tests include a driving simulator to measure reaction to environment change, visual testing to determine accuracy and speed and coordination tests using the Nintendo Wii. Once a soldier's individual deficiencies are discovered, a therapy program is designed to "help retrain the brain" in those specific areas. Since opening in September, Fort Campbell's brain injury center has screened about 400 soldiers for TBI and is currently treating about 60 cases.

religiousjedi,
That soldier is General David Petraeus. He is the Commander of U.S. Central Command, the man most responsible for the turn-a-round in Iraq, and by all accounts brilliant. Try and think before you comment, or insult a U.S. soldier, next time.

Agreed Ryan.............. I served in Iraq under his command, and the man knows his tactics. It wasn't until after he took command that a lot of the day to day soldier actions took a turn for the better. Also the Department of Defense has been using the Nintendo Wii for soldiers, airmen, seaman, and marines for quite sometime. Granted they were using it for various forms of psychological therapy, and assisting some mental rehabilitation, but this is the first I've heard of it regarding TBI. If you're ever in the Washington DC area, take a trip over to Walter Reed Army Medical Center...... military members recovering here are knee deep in the Wii!
