I have absolutely no interest in either this game or the movie on which it's based. Who likes this torture-porn crap?

This is based on something I don't like so everyone who watches it must be dumb or sexually aroused by graphic images. There is no chance that there is a possibility the first Saw was actually good, because I'm going to judge it based on the trailer and call it "torture porn" because that's what other people on the Internet call it.

First Saw was quite clever if not a bit tiring as it revolved around a single torture gimmick that was already used in Watchmen and Mad Max among others.

Having said that, anything past the third one is just pure torture/gore porn.

I only developed a hatred for the franchise AFTER watching the first Saw, which was neither clever nor refreshing. The acting was terrible and the dialogue was shit and Jigsaw's motivation was...I don't know the word I'm looking for. Disappointing? Stupid? Saw movies are made for the crowd that are too dumb to enjoy intelligent thrillers like Se7en or Silence of the Lambs.

Agreed. The movie wasn't clever at all. Everyone who likes this franchise always defends it as having a "good message"- oooo, "you don't appreciate your life so I'm going to make you appreciate it" yeah that's really clever. It's a shit franchise that is based on poor shock value and a few perverts who get off on this kind of shit.

umm if you people have no interest in saw or this game then why do you feel the need to be big fat dicks about it?

@Michelobius: I do

@WRE: Wow so since I enjoy Saw and both Se7en and Silence of the Lambs what the fuck is your logic worth? If you can't look past the graphic violence to the actual story then maybe you're the one who's too dumb, asshole.

@Chris Are: The franchise has many good messages. And Jigsaw forces people to learn them because he's a fucking VILLAIN. It's a horror movie. The shock value is added in for fucks like you who can't even appreciate the point of the movies. But since you don't enjoy either, why are you spreading your hate on here? Jeezus get a life.

I wouldn't go that far, Se7en and Silence of the Lambs are two of my favorite movies and I love the Saw franchise, well, the original up to 3. It's has an aspect of torture porn which I can't stand and sure the acting is terrible (the original was filmed in two weeks with no retakes), but the story most of the time is actually well put together as a thriller, does an alright job at analyzing characters and human behavior, and has some shock value at the end. In fact, I'd go as far as saying I like it a lot more than the other annual "horror" franchises from my youth, because while those did nothing but focus on bad guy killing teens, this actually focuses (or used to) on the victims, making you actually feel bad when they die.

The torture porn aspect actually has nothing to do with the story or the Saw franchise, although I could see how a lot of people watch these films solely to see someone's head get ripped off, which I wouldn't say differs at all from any other horror franchise. Of course, none of that is true anymore, as the last two films released have been nothing but torture porn for the sake of torture porn and a pretty horrible background story thrown in, but I'd still defend the first three as having some merit.

The whole torture porn debate seems pretty ridiculous and sensationalistic, because from my experience (and others I've spoken to who don't mind the subgenre) with movies like Saw and Hostel the acts of torture may be--and usually are--gratuitous, but they are neither satisfying or positive. They're meant to be horrific and disturbing, and for the most part that works. Sure, it's not exactly highbrow psychological horror either, but it's better than modern teen slasher crap.

Movies like Friday the 13th or the Nightmare on Elm Street sequels where the villian is getting cheered for their inventive and gory kills is far closer to torture porn than this stuff is.

And if you really want to point the finger, point the finger at everyone who enjoys Jack Bauer's antics in 24. That's your gateway to becoming a true torture porn afficianado.

oldxskoolxhlywd,

Did the "too dumb" remark hit a little close to home? I'm gonna guess that that particular phrase has been directed at you in the past. Maybe you should find some innocent people and murder them to prove a point. You could film your shenanigans and title it Saw 6.
And learn how to read, please. I didn't say anything about graphic violence, did I? All I said was the plot was incomprehensible garbage and the acting was far below the caliber that is expected of most high school productions. Also, just because a movie has a story that doesn't mean the story is worthwhile at all. P.S. I love You had a "story", for fuck's sake.

WRE: I'd say the movie done alright for itself considering it only had a budget of US$1.2m. How many other movies can you find with that sort of budget that ended up raking in US$103m?

As for the game, i'll have to wait and see what sort of reviews it's getting once it's out.

No, just no. The only way Saw can be made into a game is if the player is Jigsaw and you have to create your own saw house, while evading the police and capturing 'contestants'.

What this game needs is a program for you to make your own traps... Then share them online (a la Little Big Planet).

I can see my trap now... Bright and colorful room, off to the side is a locked door. You can't open it until you go through the hallway filled with Hello Kitty dolls with razor blades attached to them. When you enter the hallway, the walls close slowly... You need to run and grab the key (trapped in acid for kicks) then run back through before the hall closes. If you don't make it, then a giant Hello Kitty doll falls on your face, then its GAME OVER!
Sorry, I never watched any of the SAW's...

Too many people are downing this game, it's obviously not really for core gamers. I'll be picking it up seeing as I usually get every horror game that comes out (dead space and fatal frame are the only games that have made me jump and turn on the lights). So if you have no interest then leave it alone, play some halo.

I love horror games, but unfortunately there aren't enough good ones on the 360. I have Dead Space (Not scary, just jumpy) Condemned 1 was fantastic, followed by the not-so good Condemned 2. Alone in the Dark was poop, as was RE5.

Buuuuuttt... Saw films are not scary or horror. They're just sick. So was Hostel. Absolutely no point to them at all. I'm surprised that they haven't had more hatred instead of games like Manhunt.

Kids?? I'm 26...

at any rate...I DONT take that into consideration when I purchase a game. but at the same time I have rented a few games simply because they are easy to get trophies on, i.e "Alone in the Dark".

I was simply stating that I wouldnt even play it TO get easy trophies...meaning its not worth that to me. Trust and believe that I judged a game off of how difficult the trophies were then I would have damn near all the games I played at damn near 100% and thats not the case....

@ESC: I'm with you, I dont play games JUST for Trophies or replay them JUST for trophies, sure I have some but thats not the ONLY reason I play the majority of games I play. Hell most games I play and dont finish simply because I dont like them or I couldnt get into them. Killzone 2 I have played Thru numerous times not for trophies but because I like the damn game....same with Resistance 2, uncharted, & a select few others. Hell if I played games JUST for that I would have rented MAAAAAAAAAAAAAD games just to get my Gamerscore up on 360. But I got my 360 MAINLY just for Gears 2 & Fable 2

Think I'll pass on this game. I stop watching saw after Jigsaw died it, doesn't make sense to kill off the main character and keeps magically appears in the sequels.

It's gotten really confusing, but somehow 3 and 4 happened at the same time (Meaning Jigsaw was still alive) and 5 was more about the repercussions to the accomplice, though it was half prequel itself. Somehow they work him in each film and it's getting pretty convoluted.

I say just go the Jason route and have him struck by lightning and magically coming back to life.

I loved the first movie, but I pretty much stopped after the third movie. The first is so clever despite the acting being a little rough around the edges. My point, though, is that it's clear the series has gone from clever to cash-in, yet this game actually sounds like it has a lot of potential. Sounds really fun. I think as long as they don't try to emulate the movies too closely, it could end up awesome. The other guys trying to save their loves by killing you is a great explanation for ... People trying to kill you... And a good setup for combat in a game that I thought there would be none in.

Thing is, the first one is a lot different than the rest. It's much more focused on the two guys in the trap as opposed to just showing a bunch of gore. In fact, the movie was much more suspense and mystery than horror. It started in on a gore fest as well as more typical Hollywood horror flick at number 2 and especially 3 ...the twisty limbs trap

Saw never took itself too serious?

*SPOILER ALERT*

The whole premise of the movie is a guy who is so bitter about people not living their lifes to the best of their abillities, so he feels like he needs to need to make them appreciate life. He's got a braintumor and his fiancee got murdered by a junkie for fuck's sake.
*END SPOILER*

Nothing in those movies is supposed to be funny. It's really traggic, when you think about it.
Someone who got screwed by everyone, nothing funny about it.

Yeah, but I see his point, especially not having seen the first movie. Only having seen 1-3, I can see that it takes itself less seriously each movie. It starts out serious and clever, and just keeps getting more ridiculous. I remember the ads for Saw IV, something like "Halloween is coming, time for another Saw." I loved the first movie, Ended up watching it like 3 times the first weekend that I saw it (haw haw!). Saw 2, despite the fact that the budget was much larger and the premise was a lot less original, was still good. The ending got me on both of them. Saw 3... not much got me in that movie except the gore. The story was OK, the ending was only OK... and the most memorable moment for me was a guy getting brutally killed, instead of the crazy twists in the stories like the first two.

I'll still end up watching 4 and 5 at some point. Is there gonna be a 6? I would have to guess yes, or they wouldn't just not be making a game...

Yaknow, I tried Fatal Frame 3 I think, on PS2, and I liked everything about it except the "combat." The atmosphere, spookiness, and pace of the puzzling was great, but I could *never* get over the fact that you took pictures of ghosts to kill them or whatever. It kinds ruined what otherwise looked like a great game.
