A curious new job listing for Netflix seeks an "Engineering Leader -- Gaming Platforms," reports Gamasutra. The applicant is expected to have experience developing and testing media rich applications, and should be prepared to "rapidly prototype and iterate on a variety of platforms."
Either Netflix is getting into the game streaming space, or this may be another sign that Netflix streaming is coming to other consoles. Considering the relative success of Netflix on Xbox 360, it's not surprising that the company would like to expand its service and branding to other consoles -- that is, if this "Engineering Leader" can figure it out.
Update: A Netflix spokesperson got back to us and said, "We're always looking to grow. For now our game console is Xbox 360."

Really?
MS didn't pay loads of money to make that a 360 exclusive? That probably moved more units than the exclusive DLC they apparently paid a lot for.

So maybe that survey involving a Wii option is going to lead somewhere, then?

Until the selection stops sucking, this really doesn't matter.

I certainly understand this criticism, and felt the same way when I first started cruising through it. But I've got 30 items in my Instant Queue, there's a good deal of gems and great things to watch available via Instant; TV, movies, documentaries, etc.
Just helps to dig through it quite a bit, and get recommendations from other people.

In the last few months it's gotten a lot better. The selection has grown a lot and I went from never using streaming on Netflix because of the bad selection to having a queue of over 100 titles in my instant queue.

I currently stream Netflix watch instantly and Hulu to my HDTV with the PS3. I use PlayOn, but there are probably other media server programs that would work just as well. But if you don't have a decent computer, or you rely on the wireless network, you're still out of luck.

This is all great, but Time Warner's gonna butt fuck me and everyone else in Austin (as well as the other "trial" areas) then move on to butt fuck everyone else. Translation: TW is going to cockblock Netflix, hard.

While I'm sure this won't affect us in Canada anyway.. good news if true, but before every PS3 owner gets too excited, could this just be in response to earlier rumours posted on this very website pertaining to a survey hinting at Netflix coming to the Wii?

I took a web survey several weeks back asking about NetFlix being offered on the Wii. It sounded like you would pay a one time fee for a CD you'd put in the Wii every time you wanted to watch something on NetFlix. As I already have an Xbox 360 as well I wasn't very interested in it, but for people that just have a Wii, sounds like it is coming in one form or another.

This is probably a stupid question. What the hell is Netflix?

You gotta be kidding me, but I'll answer it for the other person that has never heard of it.
It's a mail and internet-based movie rental company. You go online, pick your movies, then they mail them out in a day or two. When you're done you mail them back and get more. They introduced on-demand internet streaming a while back, then added the 360 to the list of devices that can receive their content. However the streaming library is pretty thin compared to their mailed offerings but this is changing over time.

You're talking about OnLive, and I doubt the latency will make it viable. Add to that the bandwidth it'll be consuming to stream games with audio over high speed connections, and suddenly gamers on Time Warner will hit their bandwidth caps and give it up.
It's a good idea but I seriously doubt the current internet infrastructure in the US can support it properly. Maybe it'll be useful for gaming cafes with low-spec computers and lots of high quality bandwidth.

I got a 360 recently mostly for the Netflix, and it's almost all I use the 360 for. I didn't realize I'd have to pay another $50 to do it, though. It'd be cool to do it on PS3 instead.
