Gleaning what we can from the trailer, we're wont to believe that the large version of Little Mac is a direct product of well-placed punches filling up a "super" meter next to each players respective health bars. Nintendo clearly wants us to know the appearance of "Giga Mac" isn't a game ender for multiplayer, though, as even in the video (after the break) Little Mac prevails against his gargantuan twin. We're looking forward to finding out even more about Punch-Out!! when it arrives on May 18.
Punch-Out!! trailer introduces 'Giga Mac,' multiplayer mode

Nintendo has officially announced (via GameTrailers) an ... interesting looking ... multiplayer mode for upcoming Wii game, Punch-Out!! Hidden after a full minute of the Punch-Out!! trailer we've already seen is the entirely new minute, containing news of not only the modestly named "Head-to-Head" mode but also "Giga Mac" (pictured above).

I was more excited to hear that you can use the classic control scheme instead of Wii Sports wagglan, personally.

Dear Joystiqers,
Allow me to introduce myself... I'm a former core gamer who's been away from the gaming scene for about 8 years(ouch, I'm now 30) and am now really getting back into it. I picked up a 360 about four months ago and am very happy with it but was wondering if the Wii is worth purchasing(Punch Out is the motivation behind this question).
There seems to be a lot of negative sentiment towards Nintendo due to a lack of quality games but some of my fondest memories as a child took place in front of a Nintendo console. I have a hard time believing the system would sell so well if it wasn't fun. Am I missing something(I've only seen it once but haven't played it)?
This is a genuine question - I'm not interested in starting any arguments or anything.

Unbiased., that depends on your gaming prefferences. If you're just starting up again, maybe try one of the portable ones.

@Unbiased: If you're expecting every other game for the Wii to have the same quality as every other game for the PS360, you'll be disappointed.
The Wii, though fun and enjoyable (unless you're nit-picky), DOES have a rather bad good-to-bad game ratio.
In many Nintendo fans' opinions: There are good games for the Wii, but they just don't come out fast enough to make us ignore the crappy games that come out every week.
But seeing how you're coming in late to the Wii, you'll definitely have more than enough games to catch up on to satisfy your desire of fun. :)
Know your games first before you pick them up, though - you'll be rather surprised how hard it is to find the good games on a store shelf.

hahahahahahahaha! hahahahah! This is NINTENDO. If there is online, it'll be so restricted that you won't want to use it.

You gotta' give it a chance, giantenemycrab.

I don't see how they can make this game worth the money it's gonna cost... I want it to be good but I just don't see it happening.

Should have called him Big Mac. Cross promotion with McDonalds. Looking forward to this game though - old school is still cool. Although it's limitations are sure to irk more than a few people.

Technically, "Big Mac" is an entirely different form of Little Mac, as he appeared in the game Captain Rainbow, horribly out of shape. After training and completing his storyline in Captain Rainbow (for Wii, by the bye) Big Mac returns to Little Mac form.
...Speaking of Giga Mac, can anyone else say, "Final Smash"? :D

Is the gameplay for this game essentially the original Punch-Out with a couple extra characters? This game looks fantastic but if it's essentially a gussied-up version of the original game I'll have a hard time shelling out more than $10 for it.
And it comes out on my birthday. Taurii represent!

So Giga Mac is basically Eric Strada if we animated into a "Gorillaz" video?

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad a idea? I mean, Punch Out is almost a puzzle game, with you learning when the opponent will use what move. Multiplayer seems like it would remove that aspect of the game. Not to mention, you couldn't use any other characters without one player becoming more over powered than the other.

We don't know if head-to-head will incorporate multiple characters, or if it will always be Mac vs Mac
Though i can see your concerns, its a lot like Fire Emblem online, the game is fundamentally developed as a single-player venture, and putting it online removes a number of the key elements.

I have to agree that the multiplayer seems like a late addition or the term "tacked on" would also apply. The point of punch out is that you are a much smaller fighter who has to bob, weave and counter punch to level the playing field. How that will apply to a multiplayer experience is beyond me and I don't see how it will be fun even if it's done right. There is no pattern to recognize with a competitive multiplayer experience.

This is a classic single player experience and I'm sure for the sake of nostalgia it will be a fun game. However, I do question how fun the multiplayer will actually be at the end of the day. I'm also not sure that I will pay full price for this game because it's the old punch out with a new coat of paint. I'm kind of conflicted about this title but I can with 100% certainty if I do buy it I won't play it with motion controls.

At least the controls aren't as hopelessly borked as Wii Sports boxing. I think they could be serviceable since they've boiled it down to button presses moreso than anything. Kind of agree that it's just a new coat of paint, but I think there's the potential for them to really pack it with content and make it a deep game. I won't be buying this new, or probably most any game for the forseeable future, but I'm sure I'll likely get around to buying it at some point.

Same. Here.
I'll buy it eventually but not new and probably not until it costs $20. I just can't stand in front of the TV and shadowbox thin air right in front of me.

That bike jogging scene is classic stuff. I'm so glad they even remade that part of the game.

Yeah, I really fail to see how the multiplayer will be anything than frantic button massing (or wii-mote flailing) in order to finally get a hit on your opponent. Also, I agree with most other posters that paying full price for this just seems.... not right. Maybe if they include the other versions of Punchout on the disc as well?

The only time I ever played the original Punch-Out was in Animal Crossing. I'll probably give this a try sometime.
