Virtua Tennis 2009 serves up Wii MotionPlus support

The rumors were true: Sega has confirmed the Wii version of Virtua Tennis 2009 will support Nintendo's upcoming MotionPlus remote add-on. The publisher is making a racket about the fact its game will be out before EA Sports' Grand Slam Tennis, which hits in June, making it the first title on the market to utilize Ninty's fancy new doohickey.
Of course, Wii MotionPlus won't even be out until June, but it's still nice to know VT2009 supports it without pesky patches. (You know, those things Wii games don't have?) We suspect we'll be hearing more about the extra-sensitive Wii version of the game soon. Right now, Sega's only providing a general "spring 2009" release window.

weird to see 2 similar games showing different ends of the spectrum

I prefer the EA title... it's more appealing, and will look good. Besides, Grand Slam Tennis is a Wii exclusive, using the system strenghts, and Virtua Tennis is just a port from the HD versions with tacked on controls.

Honestly I would like another Sega Superstars Tennis for the Wii,I got it cheap and personally I find sports games boring but Superstars Tennis was a lot of fun.

You've played both of them fernanny?

Maybe you should try the GC port of Mario Tennis that recently came out and tacked on motion controls. I agree that Sega Superstars Tennis was a really fun and unique take on the sport.

Yeah, If I get one, it'll be Grand Slam first.
Also, anyone play NiGHTS for Wii? Is it worth $10?
Mr Khan @ Apr 14th 2009 10:01PM
$10? Hell yeah. Certainly wasn't worth the $50 i put down for it way back in 2007, but for what you get, $10 is definitely worth it
It's just as artsy and beautiful as its predecessor (it should have used two engines though, it looks beautiful when NiGHTS flies, but the ground missions look like ass), its just short as all hell

smh @ Fernando...
why do you have to like Nintendo products as well? I can't defend you.
Sega Uranus @ Apr 14th 2009 11:51PM
It is not a port. It is built from the ground up on Wii, and the HD games were built from the ground up for those platforms. It is "Technically" two different games.

You must be pretty new here.

I have Sega SuperStars Tennis and Mario Power Tennis Wii, and the Mario one is a lot more fun. So if you like the Sega one do yourself a favor and pick up the Mario.
(and don't believe the bad reviews that say flaky controls kill the game - they are a weensy bit flaky but it's still way fun).
PSN: Erdie (Now equipped with Wii!) @ Apr 15th 2009 8:34PM
@Khan
I kind of figured it'd at least be worth a try at $10. Thanks!

I think Grand Slam Tennis looks better from screen shots. Mainly because of the cartoonish art style/graphics. If these screens are any indication of what Virtua Tennis 09 will look like it pales in comparison to the HD versions. This should be a reminder to all the Wii developers out there. If you are porting a game from the HD consoles go with the Shaun White Snowboarding angle and use a completely different art style. Otherwise, the game is just going to look like total ass because The Wii isn't capable of the same graphical fidelity and the difference will be staggering.
Markez @ Apr 14th 2009 11:58PM
That cartoony McEnroe was seriously fantastic. I could go either way on what they do with the graphical style from HD to Wii, I do enjoy the cartoony/unique style like that Grand Slam (and Ghostbusters) seem to get but I don't necessarily mind the 'dumbed down' graphics either if they want to try and keep with the realistic presentation. I had a lot of fun with Mario Tennis on the GC back in the day, did you pick it up for the Wii with the new play control shtick? I've seen wildly different reviews of whether they really work or not.
Don't know if you caught my Will Ferrell quote from Eastbound and Down in one of the other posts, but that show is great. My buddy's girlfriend couldn't stomach more than 20 minutes of it the one time she tried watching it.

I expect the Wii version to sell best because that's where the bulk of gamers lie.

I wish Sega would drop the whole "Virtua ___" naming system. I sounds so dated that games from 2 generations ago are what immediately spring to mind for me. Not something they ought to draw attention to when releasing games for the Wii.
Methos123 @ Apr 22nd 2009 6:40AM
Where is the Virtua Tennis 2009 Wii footage? Also, is there going to be as good (1:1 controls) as the the Grand Slam Tennis?
