Just in case Satoru Iwata's promise of a July release window for Wii Sports Resort wasn't good enough for you, Nintendo sent official word that the upcoming game will launch in the U.S. on July 26. As expected, the beach-themed sequel will come bundled with the MotionPlus peripheral for $50, which will be released by itself on June 8 for $20.
Nintendo promises that "developers around the world" are working on titles to take advantage of MotionPlus. Purely by coincidence, wrists around the world have begun to cry out in fear.

Well I guess I wont be getting it until Wii Sports Resort is released....
Damn shame I am going to have to remove it everytime I want to charge my controllers in the Nyko dock tho. Hopefully they will just go ahead and release a controller later this year with it built in..

hope none of my friends want to play
cost of a friend playing wii with me:
wii remote - $40
nunchuck - $20
wii motion+ - $20
==============
$80 just so i can have a virtual sword fight with a friend? i miss the days when consoles came with 2 controllers and truly encouraged playing with a friend.

Yeah. It's highway robbery. Forget DLC that "should have come with the game" - these freaking $80 controllers should have initially come with the system. To be fair, though, I bet the controllers are the most expensive part of the package of we were to compare cost to profit. The accelerometers and what not. Still. STILL!!

You forgot to include sales tax, that makes it anywhere from $85 - $90 for most people.

The accelerometers the wiimotes use are cheap. In fact, that is the whole reason that motion plus is needed. So, to recap...the $40 half of a controller needs another $20 nunchuck to be a full controller, only this $60 combination was made with cheap accelerometers so you'll need to spend another $20 for a good one.
I only have 2 expectations / hopes. 1) it will be a worthwhile accessory that makes for a better game play experience and 2) they will build this new tech into a 'Wiimote Plus' for $10 more instead of $20 (for those of us that don't have 4 wiimotes already)

And yet the mindless lemming of the world...especially the United States will lap it up like its the greatest thing ever.
And another thing, how can a game with terrible graphics, shallow gameplay, simple physics, and no depth take THIS LONG to complete?
Answer, the mini-games fest has been complete for months...Nintendo is just releasing it at the best time for maximum impact from the Lemmings. This is a practice that the Plumber has employed for many many years and yet they never get called out on it by the media.
Sony delays a game so that it can be BETTER and they get called Delaystation. Whats worse...delaying a game to make it BETTER or delaying a game because your marketing department thinks its wise to do so.
Nintendo is more arrogant than they have ever been, and thats saying something.

"Has everyone forgotten that Sony did more or less the same thing with the SIXAXIS/ Dualshock 3 debacle? "
No, no one has forgotten. But it's not really the same thing. The WM+ actually adds functionality to the game and some games won't work as well (at all?) without it. The rumble adds some feedback, but as far as I know there are no games that require it nor does it directly impact playability. Plus, anyone buying a PS3 recently gets DS3s anyway. The need to purchase the WM+ applies to literally every Wii owner... both current and future. And if you need a new controller you still pretty much have to buy the Wiimote + Nunchuck + WM Plus to have a "complete" controller. A PS3 owner just needs to buy a single DS3.
So, yeah, it sucked those of use early adopters that had SIXAXIS. But I figured that we would see a DS3 at some point, so I had only purchased one extra SIXAXIS by the time it actually launched. The only way to avoid purchasing the WM+ is to not buy any games that require it.

I don't agree at all with the people who come out of the woodwork to say how this should've been included in the first place when the Wii released. It wasn't available back then, and if it were never to have come out nobody would have realized they were even missing a chance to moan and complain about it.
But you sir, I agree with 100%. From here on out, it should be included in new Wiimotes.

Thinking I might pass on sports resort ... wii sports was fun but this one doesnt look like as much fun (sword fighting seems cool tho).
Maybe if the bundle was 30 or 40 ... just not sure wii sports alone is worth the 30$
To each his own.

You know, at least the thing is absorbed into the price of the game, unlike Wii Fit or other peripheral games. $50 dollars doesn't looks so bad compared to $80+ some other games charge.

Seems a bit too much on its own, but then again so is the Nunchuk
Well priced with Resort, though, since Resort apparently is going to have quite a bit of game in it (at least compared to the original).
I'm surprised they're letting Motion Plus out the door early just for the sake of 3rd parties, though. Really doesn't seem like the Nintendo we all know and love

It does seem a bit odd. You would think Nintendo would want their own game to debut with the new hardware. I suppose it's a good sign though that they were willing to let EA take the lead. Nintendo probably figures that Wii Sports Resort is going to sell through the roof either way and don't have anything to lose.

About $10 too expensive. Especially when I was considering buying 4 of them. Very dissapointing. I had hoped that Nintendo would throw us a bone on this one, especially since their production costs have dropped considerably on Wii consoles and yet their prices haven't, and we all know that those things were profitable to begin with (especially when compared to the other two current console manufacturers). Lame.

I know they won't do anything, but I really hope Nintendo realizes that nobody is going to pay another $20 so they can play one game. Nintendo's peripherals are novelty items and they almost never get any third party support, so I will be passing on this one.

I'm kind of split. On one hand, I was expecting it to be cheaper, and I'd still rather pick up a Wii Remote Plus. On the other hand, this could be that Nintendo doesn't expect the motion plus to be widely used outside of games where it can really do some good (sports games, sword fighting)-- basically, intentionally gimping Motion+'s popularity so that developers don't toss a requirement on it for stupid shit, thereby requiring people to buy a Motion+ for games that don't really need it.
Or in other words, it could be part of a diabolical plot to make you not need to buy it. I am probably not sane.
Anyway, Nintendo, while you're making Wiimote+, add in a separate power switch for the remote itself

I agree that it's about $10 too much. Nintendo is gonna oversaturate the market for controller "add ons". People will get tired of having to plug/unplug stuff from their remotes.

@Chris: My kids loved that show, and I even got into it, although I'm more of a Justice League/Legion of Superheroes guy. Unfortunately, several good shows bit the dust when KidsWB basically called it quits--The Batman, Legion, Spectacular Spider-Man.

Agreed. Look at how much Wii Play and Wii Fit sold with their pack in peripherals/controllers. People will buy this whether we like it or not.
As for my prediction... I'm thinking that, when the stock market crashes, Wii MotionPluses will be the only stable form of currency left in the economy.

I *may* get the one that comes with the game (Wii Sports is pretty much the only game anyone ever wants to play on my Wii) but there's no way in hell I'll spend another $60 to bring the rest of my controllers up to date.
Should have sold the damn thing when it was still fetching premium aftermarket prices.

$50 is too steep for my wallet. If the peripheral is MSRP $20, then shouldn't Wii Sports Resort be $10? Making the bundled package $29.99. That's kind of why Wii Play sold so well. Wii Play only had 7-9 small games, but for only $10, who could turn that deal down?

You might not be a fan of Wii Sports, but it's hardly reasonable to rank it alongside Wii Play. (I'm assuming this game is of similar quality/depth; no reason not to.) And Wii Sports sold perfectly well at full price - without a controller - in Japan...
I'll probably get just the controller though, and maybe one of the EA games... hmm...
