Watch this game suck when its finally out. No bias, just saying it would be a real Epic Fail.

I agree, almost all games that have exceedingly long development cycles totally blow. I'm looking at you Spore. Besides, it doesn't even seem relevant anymore. Duke Nukem was good back in the day because it had unparalleled levels of interactivity, but now that's commonplace. I really doubt that this game is going to radically change the way we think about FPS' or really do anything new at all. I feel like the whole macho man shtick will be just tired and worn out now as well, I am almost positive this game is gonna absolutely suck

Team Fortress 2
Prey
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Dark Sector
World of Warcraft
Half-Life 2

None of these games turned out shit(hell, TF2 was directly compared to DNF!) which is why, I'm still hoping DNF will actually turn out good to make up for the fact it's been the industry's joke for the last ten years.

warcraft only took around 4 years, Dark Sector sucked, Prey was mediocre, STALKER was good but nothing special, and HL2 and TF2 were valve, and I mean, come on, that's not fair

The Dark Wayne,

No, Dark Sector's story was sub-par as was its voice acting. However, the gameplay was incredibly solid and enjoyable; dismembering people with the glaive or the close combat kills were all incredibly rewarding. I still laugh my ass off when I split someone in half like an overly ripe piece of fruit with a power throw and watch their torso fall over a rail, when I pull off a decapitation, or when I'm able to lop someone's leg off before sinking the glaive into someone else's throat all in one shot. Aiming the glaive so that it decapitates someone on its return path is a beautiful thing to watch.

Visually, the game still holds its own with even AAA console titles and that's quite an impressive feat given that it's been the first game to run on Digital Extreme's own in-house engine; many people mistaken it with Unreal 3, but Dark Sector essentially has no texture pop-in (something present in every Unreal 3 game) and arguably better ambient lighting. The framerate's relatively smooth and there's a minimal level of aliasing. Just because the plot's mediocre doesn't mean the rest of the game is bad or that it sucks overall.

maybe they should just turn development over to valve... even though that would probably just take just as long (when the hell are they gonna release goddamn HL ep 3!)

I've got a feeling this game is going to come out either December 21 or 22, 2012.

If I'm right, maybe the crazies are actually RIGHT.

The 2012 thing actually transends most anchient cultures, mystics, prophets and alchemist. The funny thing is those people weren't in cahoots but actually came to the conclusion on their own from studying celestial events, numerology and other anchient practices.

Just because someone believes something life alterting will happen on or begin on Dec 21st, 2012 doesn't make them a "crazy."

I suggest you go look up the following things if you haven't already:

Terrance McKenna Time Wave Zero iChing (see mayan video below this)

Mayan Doomsday prophecy, long count
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aPNcUJuiLY

2012 geomagnetic pole reversal (coast to coast AM)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ahoPGzL50Q&feature=related

Nostradamus 2012

2012 wormwood comet cluster/ nibiru/ amunaki
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxyWP639T60

Nibiru projected orbital return 2012

Bruce Bueno De Mesquita computer simulations

Albert Einstein Pole shift theory 1959

All of that among many other things I won't even go into right now are worth looking into if you have at least a fascination in the 2012 prophecy. Bottom line is that there are a lot of events (celestial, solar, economic & with our own planet) heading to a creshindo in 2012. I hope that it's nothing and all these independent sources of information are mistaken but I just don't buy that nothing is going to happen. I'm hoping it's an elevation of our consciensnus instead of a cataclysm.

i too think the 2012 theory is BS. at least i hope it is, because i graduate that year. and that article JonFitt posted is convincing. it really could just be the end of the cycle. i think a lot of those 2012 theories got started after hearing about the whole mayan calendar thing. oh well, if the world will end in 2012, i doubt we would be able to prevent it anyway.

Ummm... in that segment about the Mayan calender, they showed the Aztec calender.
Now, I'm not saying that implies a lack of research or anything, but Wikipedia says:

"The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by José Argüelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about December 21, 2012, a forecast that mainstream Mayanist scholars consider a misinterpretation, yet is commonly referenced in pop-culture media as the 2012 problem.

"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. in Crystal River, Florida. "To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting", she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in.""

Wikipedia is never wrong.

I'm guessing that each task is a part of DNF, which means that DNF is 829 tasks away from being completed.
...DNF will be older than me by the time it gets released.

So at this rate, it will be just under a year. T minus ~365 days until the largest scale failure in video game history. If this game is anything short of great, it will have been a tremendous waste of time.

I think we've reached the point where even making fun of Duke Nukem Forever for not coming out has gotten way old and tired. It was funny when Jeff Gerstmann got upset about it a couple years ago on The Hotspot podcast and now it's just pathetic.

All those in favor of banning the words "Duke Nukem Forever" from video game blogs until it's time to put it in a "Now Playing" post say "Aye."

I understand what you're saying here, but there is a big difference: DNF actually has a chance to be good, Chinese Democracy was doomed from the start. 3D Realms may have had many laughs at their expense, but they never left the stage after the first song because someone took a picture at a no cameras concert.

Still a funny comparison though ^_^

If that list is referring strictly to Duke Nukem progress, then taking, the average of 800-900, which is 850, and using the fact that it took 12 years to get to 71, lets do some math.

850/71 ~ 11.971
11.971*12 ~ 143.66197

So it will take them a total of 144 years to finish the game. LUCKILY, they have already completed 12 years worth, so we've only got to wait 132 more years. I reckon she'll be ready for the holidays in 2141.

It's the Chinese Democracy of Video Games! I bet the samething that happened to Chinese Democracy will happen to Duke Nukem Forever. It'll have taken so long to come out that the public will have moved on and it'll just fizzle away into nothingness.

This has to be a joke, at this point saying you are at milestone 71 of 800 or 900 is just silly. For one thing you don't know how many milestones you have, it takes longer than 12 years to figure that out? For another why even tell people that after 12 YEARS you are pass 8% or less of your milestones.

It has to be a joke, and for anybody that actually still gives a crap about this game, it's probably not funny at all.

Just sell the rights 3dRealms and let a competent developer (read: anyone but yourself) make the game, assuming there is any market left for the Duke Nukem name that you have let wither on the vine. Nothing they release will ever live up to this, it will be dikatana whether it deserves it or not.

and judging by the screens it will be worse than that.
