Wow this is great news for me first thing in the morning. If Bionic Commando Rearmed showed what GRIN was capable of then this game should be a really good game. I feel it deserves a lot more attention and love from the gaming community, I have a feeling it's multiplayer could be something really fun and different. Can't wait!

You should've picked up one of the $30 1yr cards that were everywhere over the last few weeks.

You wouldn't be able to play this online-only demo anyways without Gold.

Meh, I can get them pretty cheap any time with a bit of lurking, but I don't plan on using XBL till Modern Warfare 2 comes out.

I'm hyped for the demo, but I can't see it justifying a $30 purchase.

But all the other goodies that come along with XBL can't justify a $30 purchase???

Nice to see 16 maps right outta the gate. I'm a bit downed over the 3 game types. I was hoping to see more modes like Lost Planet Colonies. Oh well...May can't get here soon enough.

I'm not too big into multiplayer games, but it does look pretty fun. Isn't that the point of releasing a demo? To show people that it is fun?

Single player campaign is where I'll be though... and it looks very cool indeed.

PSN subcharge toll? yeah i'm sure thats it...

because it can definitely not be MS paying for demo exclusivity. I mean, MS is not known for shady business practices like that.

lets see
should I pick the service that I can release something for free?
Or should I pick the one I have to pay for?

(its always going to be the free one)

It's not shady. Sony has been doing this for years and now people give a shit because Microsoft is doing it? Come on!

The way I see things is that the trivial expense of .16/GB is keeping them from advertising their game to a console with over 20 million people then they have some financial issues because it would cost them more sales then they would gain if the game is solid.

If paying $50/yr for Live gets you access to these demos then so be it. Personally, I'll take the free online service without the demos. After all, you guys with Live are paying more than your fair share to get that content so I can't really be that upset about it. I would rather have the publisher pay the minimal maintenance cost them be gouged as a consumer when I'm already paying for the console, game and my internet connection (which could also be a wireless router + adapter/bridge.)

Let's do some quick math here:

Lets assume the demo is 1 GB in size. Let's then assume that 500,000 downloaded that demo. That would equate to a cost of $80,000 which would be the same as 1,600 of you buying a full priced one year Live subscription, selling 1,230 copies of the game (gross) and/or a tiny portion of their advertising budget ,which, is what this really is in the end anyway. If that expense is to much for them to undertake to get their game in my hands then I'm probably not going to go out of my way to purchase their game. My projections above are essentially a worse case scenario and 9/10 times the costs & file size don't approach that amount. I did similar number on SF2HDRMX & that pirate ship game from Capcom and in the end the cost was trivial.

It would certainly be nice to have the ability to play the demo to see if I like the game. However, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it and I'm not going to act like I'm entitled to this demo because it's not on the PS3. I'm glad that Sony makes the publishers pay because us consumers are getting raped on all sides as it is. It's not like Capcom wouldn't make the money up on some hair brained DLC unlock code post launch anyway.

@Kenny If 50$ (or actually 30$ now) a year gouges a consumer, then they seem to be the one in financial trouble, not the developer.

So yes I will be downloading this demo

From the videos I've seen, it seems that the environments are supposed to be pretty large... hence some of the smaller details may use lower resolution textures. But don't let me interrupt your grousing with logic...

I played this baby at Dreamhack, GRIN had a booth there. Was able to play the tutorial and the first level in the singleplayer campaign, plus a deathmatch vs my friend in a LAN game. This game is actually so good that I bought a 360 only for this one and for Resident Evil 5.
