New trailer proves Fez's radness, 2009 release date
As a final test, watch the above trailer for Fez. If it doesn't appear on your radar then, you'll know it's time to let your radar technician go ... just like we're about to fire our guy that's supposed to tell us when our metaphors have become too protracted.

Kenny Powers Fastball (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Apr 15th 2009 5:12PM
It's like Echnochrome + Paper Mario = this game.
iFester @ Apr 15th 2009 5:22PM
I knew that Fez looked familiar. ;)
Daniel @ Apr 15th 2009 7:23PM
Echocrome + Paper Mario + Cave Story = Fez
chispito @ Apr 15th 2009 10:10PM
I like the CGA room/level.
n4tiv3 @ Apr 16th 2009 7:37AM
Awesome.
I love echochrome and Cave Story.
Let's just hope it isn't as short as Cave Story was.
suicycle.com @ Apr 16th 2009 12:25PM
Definitely an infrequently used game-play mechanic, but not much info on objectives or actual control schemes.
Hyperfludd @ Apr 15th 2009 4:43PM
Soo..no platforms announced?
Dirty Again @ Apr 15th 2009 4:44PM
right
Freak Mojo @ Apr 15th 2009 4:45PM
I think I threw up a little after I got vertigo.... yikes at all the brain-twisting freakiness :P
Kevin949 @ Apr 15th 2009 4:48PM
Ugh...no thanks.
Manly Mcbeefigan (Mr. ESC) @ Apr 15th 2009 4:51PM
Reminds me of Crush.
Crush was awesome,is this an exclusive PC game or is going to be in other platforms/services?
aristokrat @ Apr 15th 2009 5:01PM
I'm finally playing Crush right now, and it is quite fun. The story is unnecessary though.
JonFitt @ Apr 15th 2009 5:32PM
Crush was good, it got a bit trial and error for me in later levels. The trailer shows bits (esp in the darkness jumping with disappearing platforms) that look like they'll be really hard when you don't know exactly what to do.
Rumour is that it's XBLA.
Neuromancer @ Apr 15th 2009 4:51PM
"Release: 2009
Platform: TBA
In development: Yes"
Very vague. Wonder how many games they *don't* have in development?
Samutz @ Apr 15th 2009 4:51PM
This is a new trailer? I've seen all this footage some time ago. The only thing new about it is the 2009 at the end.
max @ Apr 15th 2009 4:53PM
wow... you can't tell at all what is a platform you can stand on. that would be really frustrating if it is supposed to be a platformer, but probably a good mechanic if it's supposed to be a puzzle game.
Erluti @ Apr 15th 2009 5:01PM
:O
D-5 @ Apr 15th 2009 5:02PM
Looks great. As I noticed from IGDA meetings, he seems to have a following...of indie, sneering hanger-ons from the Plateau (Montreal's area of hipsters, "artistes", arrogant, indie humans). Nice guy though, and can't for him to finally release the game.
D-5 @ Apr 15th 2009 5:03PM
Mr. Phil Fish, I mean.
aggrazel @ Apr 15th 2009 5:04PM
Video made my brain hurt. Maybe its one of those games thats ok to play but watching it makes you want to hurl.
Covnam @ Apr 15th 2009 5:04PM
Looks interesting, looks like it's building on the ideas from games like Super Paper Mario and Echochrome
Kenny Powers Fastball (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Apr 15th 2009 5:13PM
damn ... just said the same thing above. You beat me to it but I was thinking the same exact thing.
NekoDaimyo @ Apr 15th 2009 5:12PM
This hurts my brain, and I love it.
Levi (God Hand Defense Force) @ Apr 15th 2009 5:34PM
Very much on my radar. Thanks Joystiq!
Descender @ Apr 15th 2009 5:54PM
Mind has been blown. I need to go update my radar software.
jsut @ Apr 15th 2009 5:55PM
I've been looking forward to Fez for a long while. Are you sure this is a new trailer? It looks like the one released in late March. I appreciate the opportunity to listen to that lovely tune again though.
Lee @ Apr 15th 2009 7:13PM
Crush, I played that already.
ronald.raygun @ Apr 15th 2009 7:31PM
from what i remember there was talk of this appearing on XBLA, but as of now its just guaranteed for the pc right?
Imaginationac @ Apr 15th 2009 7:39PM
It's for PC folks.
Brett from Atlanta @ Apr 15th 2009 8:10PM
woah, thats rad
Keith @ Apr 15th 2009 8:57PM
Radar picked it up instantly, I'll be looking forward to this for sure.
gzsfrk @ Apr 15th 2009 9:08PM
It's an almost straight rip-off of the classic C64 (and many other platforms) game, Tower Toppler. It obviously has an upgraded visual style over TT, but the gameplay looks identical.
Indeed it's true--there is nothing new under the sun.
Courtney @ Apr 16th 2009 1:00AM
I have some vague memories of that game, but it hardly seems to be a rip-off. If I remember correctly, in it you just walked/jumped around a tower. You didn't have direct control of turning it different directions (as this does), nor were there any buildings other than circular towers.
I think there have been several games that used a mechanic like this, I don't see a lot of people claiming it's totally brand new. But it does look like a very interesting take on a rarely used gameplay mechanic.
Why not try to look on the bright side instead of being a killjoy?
Lee @ Apr 16th 2009 9:31AM
holy shit I forgot about that. you're right too.
So it's Crush and Tower Toppler yet people are heralding its originality. is it THAT easy to do now? Just pick 2 obscure games and stick them together?
Ozborne @ Apr 15th 2009 11:23PM
Sorry, little guy, but I am going to be accidentally hurtling you into the infinite abyss soooo many times. God, I hope he doesn't make a tiny little "Noooo!" sound as he falls, that is going to break my heart.
Why do so many cute things live in nightmare realms of treacherous spires?
Courtney @ Apr 16th 2009 12:58AM
Eeep, looks awesome!
t_m @ Apr 16th 2009 5:01AM
Anyone tried And Yet It Moves?
http://www.playgreenhouse.com/game/BRKRL-000001-01/
It looks to be in the same vein as all these perspective altering games... but i've heard nothing bout it.
Lee @ Apr 18th 2009 2:43PM
theres a demo on Steam but its the dullest thing on that service. All you do is move and rotate the level and push some rocks around. It's not fluid and not enjoyable. of course there will be a bunch of hippie liberal douches who love it but it lacks any kind of depth that most gamers are now used to.
