Good news for you friendless, cheap, space-marine-lovin' Scrooge McDucks out there: You can now pick up a single-player demo for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II for free. The sample casts you as a gun-toting band of soldiers "battling the heretic Eldar, the pillaging Orks, and the ravaging Tyranid threats."
If you want to know what to expect from the game, you can check out our hands-on here, or, you know, just go play it. It's free. If you like what you see, you can buy the game for 25 percent off until April 20.

Newegg has had it on sale for 39.99 since the week after launch. Free 3 day shipping. Great game. Achievement points will go to your 360 gamertag if you use the Live function.

One of the few RTS games worth playing for the single player alone. match making was terrible, and there were horrible bugs at first, but its a very fun game. But, a few things you should know
1. If you buy it in stores, be warned the the game WILL NOT WORK out of the box. The game was shipped incomplete, and you will need to apply at least the first patch. Look around on the box and you will see it says "internet connection required" in small print on the back.
2. This game requires both Steam and Games for Windows Live to run. You cannot legitly run the game without having accounts for both of these and logging into them, not even single player will work. After you get the first patch off of steam, you can set both to offline mode to play offline, but you do need to connect both to the internet at least once. Of course I suppose cracks are always an option for you if your "that type."
That being said, single player is a blast and can be done co op. Scrimmage mode AI is terrible, after a few hours of play even the highest difficulty AI is very little of a challenge. I havent played online, but the forums say its very fun. Single player mode has a sort of RPG element in it in that you level up your squads and equip them with armor and weapons and the like.

You should probably add a link to where the sale is happening, Joystiq.

WTF is with this site. It doesn't save my username/password in any browser on any OS. And my avatar won't update no matter how many times I upload it. Fail.

As much as I like Steam and am all for it, I really dislike their practice of getting you to download all the game assets so that if you like it it will require no further download once you buy it. It's a bloody demo, all I want to play is the demo level. I do not want to download the full 4gb of the game, especially if I don't intend on buying it (I just want to check it out).

This is possibly the longest demo I've ever played. Well, I did go out of my way to kill as many orks and later eldar as possible, but still. I almost thought I accidently bought the whole game.

This is an awesome game and totally sucked me in for a couple of weeks. I LOVE this kind of RTS small squad management and would buy an expansion at the drop of a hat. If you've got the hardware to run it, its one of the best things I've played exclusive to PC in YEARS.
