Yeah, Nintendo really lost their direction with Donkey Kong once they lost Rare.

Except for Jungle Beat. That was awesome. But even then, he's being relegated to these experimental games. Low-risk, low-budget, ultimately insignificant in the long run. But Nintendo seems to need more development capacity as-is, they aren't diverting anything for DK

I really hate Microsoft's mentality, they want some good games they buy them from someone else. Honestly what has Microsoft ever actually done that was original?

By the way that wasn't a rhetorical question.

If you remember, that`s how SONY`s game division started out too. They recognize that they have no knowledge of the gaming industry (although that is changing rather rapidly), but they also have a lot of money.

DOS, Windows etc. But game-wise, not a lot I think. I personally hate how when Rare were with Nintendo they made about 8 or so great games for the 64 alone. Almost 7 years on since Microsoft bought them, and they haven't made a single great game. Not one. I get the feeling Microsoft may be meddling a bit too much.

Answer: NOTHING

Even MS-DOS was just re-labeled software that they bought from the original developer for a ridiculousl low amount of money that they turned around and sold to IBM as licenses for every PC.

Marketing genius, but no original thought whatsoever. Nothing has changed has it?

Vista. Everything you love about Windows Vista is 100% Microsoft.

Nintendo bought a significant portion of Rare too, so what does that mean? lol

MS has done some interesting things in the gaming department. If you choose to ignore that, that's your prerogative.

Also, I think Viva Pinata and Nuts and Bolts are both great games. I know a lot of people get hung up on the car building component of the latter, but it's a lot of fun. Frankly, a third game like BK would have been a bit much for me personally... I didn't find it necessary or interesting. Ironically, I imagine the same group of people who hate it would complain that Rare wasn't doing anything new if they made a third game just like the first two.

Grabbed the Ghoulies is better than it gets credit for too. Not that it's "great".

I can't even go back and play some of Rare's N64 games. Not everything aged well and I do wonder how amazing those games would have seem if there was more on the system. I do still love Blast Corps, though.

Fanboyism on this section of Joystiq is definitely more evident, for better or worse lol.

Am I the only one whos intrigued that DotEd replied with "No Opera Link IN THIS VERSION"? Could that mean we may finally see Opera releasing updated versions of the Wii/DSi browsers later on?

I think he means this version as in the Wii/ DSi version as opposed to the PC version, and whatever other versions there might be.

But I hope your right!

Nintendo needs to release the original arcade version of Donkey Kong on Virtual Console Arcade. It would be even better as a WiiWare release with a leaderboard so that Wii owners could compete to be the virtual King of Kong!

Agreed, but probably too much to ask.

Asking for another Donkey Kong Country-style game from Rare is like asking for another Sonic the Hedgehog game from Sega. Underline -- the original teams that worked on these games are long gone. Even if another DKC title is miraculously conceived between Nintendo and Rare, it won't be what memory deems it.

And honestly, I only had trouble with WarioWare Snapped for the first play through. I cannot for the life of me understand why no one's able to play it AT ALL, hah. I'm in dorms [i.e., light cream brick walls] and with two crappy lamps on, my brother and I can play it for hours. Or, rather tens of minutes. It's kinda short~

Ha ha!

Yup, my first DK experience was with bug spray. But anyway, I would simply put my request like this: I want a DK platformer with no gimmicks.

There. That's simple, right?

We'll see,

I'd love for another Donkey Kong like the one on the Game Boy: includes the 4 stages of the original, and then adds 96 more. Nintendo tried to do a sequel of it on the GBA and DS with Mario vs. Donkey Kong, but someone there obviously played Lemmings for the first time and wrecked it (and the sequel even more so.)

Hey, there are lots of people who played video games back then and then never touched them again.... until the Wii came out. The virtual console is nice, but I don't think Nintendo has really hit the retro thing hard enough or in the right way.

Anyone noticed that no-one cares about the DSi browser and everyone just wants Rare back?

Rare might pretty much suck nowadays, but us Nintendo fans still love 'em. Factor 5, too.

That said, DKC4. WiiWare. DO IT NOW, Nintendo.

That sounded like "Rare made DKC. Fuck you we won't make another one. We don't want to. I SAID WE DON'T WANT TO."

Geez, that dude sounded like Rare created Donkey Kong... Nintendo CAN still make Donkey Kong games, duh. But yeah, while losing Rare was truly a sad day, when you take into consideration how bad their games have been post-Star Fox Adventures, it really isn't that big of a loss.

They ruined the Perfect Dark series with PD0, BanjoKazooie and Tooie were infinitely better than the horribly gimmicky Nuts & Bolts and their other next-gen ventures have been lackluster... not to mention they claimed to have been developing Avatars before Miis = sooper lulz.

They fell from greatness long ago. But yeah, Donkey Kong Country 4 on DS, now, Nintendo. Now.
