Here's what we now know, based on the teaser: It's the Renaissance (yep, had that), science is big again, but the real truths? They "lie in the shadows ... written in blood." We're left to wonder if this is some sort of code. Do we need to do something involving shadows (we can handle that) and blood (no way!) in order to see the real teaser? Or, maybe, we simply resign ourselves to the fact we just got handed a heaping plate of letdown.
Assassin's Creed 2 teaser lacks gameplay, oozes melodrama

its fine if you just choose a couple of them and dont buy them all at the same time. then it gives you more games to pick up during those drought months. if you pan it out right you should always have something new to play. i do. plus you can often get the other at discounts if you just wait on them. you can only play one at a time anyway.

The first one was repetitive, but so is every game. Hell as good as Fallout 3 is every single location is the same thing, go in destroy all the baddies, get loot, leave. Each type of location even looks the same. The story was enjoyable (good is too strong a word) the sword play was fun. Plus doing a swan dive into a cart full of hay was cool as hell, even if we got to do it 500 times.

So did they steal that from the History Channel?
Although I am looking forward to that game, that teaser trailer did nothing for me.

Well the first game was boring and crapping melodrama Hayden Christensen style, and since sequels only get better I can only imagine...

I wonder what the "mission objectives" will be like this time around...
Please god, oh please, don't be the same 5 or 6 things to "collect intel"
...which in fact was pretty much pointless. Seeing how I memorized the map halfway through the MOST repetitive game EVER.

Game informer says there are over 200 different missions you can do.

It wasn't the repetition that bothered me so much. It was the fact that the gameplay INSIDE those repetitive missions was so completely bland. The boss fights were especially idiotic, in that all the intel you collected didn't actually allow you to do anything other than go to boss fight+watch cut scene+follow one (and only one) course of action to kill the boss, then run away.
making 200 missions wont change the fact that it is a linear game, with no play-depth, presented through a silly scifi lens.
Also, I hated that the stupid tutorial "told me" what to do, by covering 1/6th of the screen, from start to finish, every 30 seconds of play. It's bad enough that there were no decisions to make in the game, but &*^( you Ubisoft! At least let me go through the motions on my own!

Personally, I'd rather gain items and abilities through intuitive gameplay rather than crawling all over every building looking for little flags that have been sprinkled all over the planet.

Ugh, so sick of hearing people complain about the first one. The first one was a PERFECT gem (graphics, animation, sound, fighting mechanics) - that PERFECT gem was in fact cover in dog crap (boring mission structure, story repetitiveness, useless flags, terrible bureau structure, ugly UI) but the true lovers can see the gem underneath. They promised to scrape the "crap" away and which leaves you with a PERFECT gem; Assassins Creed 2.
Another analogy: The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned, but the gravy tasted like shit (which left a bad taste in peoples mouths). But people should know It's easy to fix the gravy...

For those of us who loved the first game (we do exist), there are some fun clues hidden in this trailer. Yes, the narration is doofy. But toward the end are some storyline clues.
First, there are three family crests (presumably representing three warring factions in the game) just before the "written in blood" bit.
Second, DaVinci's famous double-helix stairway appears to lead to the game's title (AC2). Presumably, this means we'll get more on genetic memory and whatnot.
Third, the eagle cries and we see what looks (to me) like a new version of Eagle Vision (you can just make out what appear to be rooftops and spires as though in a film negative).
Fourth, immediately after that you get a quick flash of three frames. I did my best to pause the video to catch them, and I saw three things. One, some organic chemical structure. I don't know my organic chemistry that well, so I'll leave it to someone else (a bunch of O's, H's, N's together with lines and hexagons). Two, the Vitruvian man with the knife blade that we've already seen. Three, a strange symbol with interlocked triangles. It looks like a modified version of the "Valknut," the three interwoven triangle symbol of the Norse. It's visually similar to the "Borromean knot" found at the end of the first game.
Anyway, doesn't help the "missing gameplay" bit, but it definitely is fun for us fans!

I was also let down by the first game and this horrible teaser trailer is doing nothing to make me want to rush out for the second. I hope Ubisoft gets smart and does a better job with this one because I think a lot of us consumers are going to want to pass on that feeling of buyer's remorse when the second comes out.

Hmmm.. interesting and cliche ridden as hell!
My guess is the 'written in blood' thing refers to the writing at the end of the first game on the wall in the apartment thing, that only is visible with the Eagle vision. This could give a clue to this game???

Why not kill one of the most predominant figures of the time??
I mean some of his works are causing controversy now, who know what was said about it then. The assassins may not have agreed with what he was saying

Yeah there are....except they're not doing much at Ubisoft. Very ambitious ideas, poor execution. All of their next gen games have suffered from being repetitive and losing focus after the first few awesome hours.
Hopefully they do better on AC 2.

Science isn't big in Assassin's Creed. SCIENCE! is.
This is coming from a huge fan of the first game. Assassin's Creed might as well be called a fantasy game (as most so-called sci-fi movies/TV shows/games should be.) I'm not super anal about how sci-fi must rigidly conform to our current view of science (honestly, most sci-fi would suck if there was no faster-than-light travel). But when you start getting into things like genetic memories, which is nothing more than ancestoralism dressed up in SCIENCE! words!, you're officially in Fantasyland.

the compound in question appears to be a derivative of adensoine (not all of it is visible). it is a nucleoside (ribose sugar connected to a nucleobase), i.e. it is related to DNA.
the significance here is simply that it is related to DNA, and probably cause they thought it looked cool. I dunno what the drawing in the background is, if that might be connected.
cheers,

At first I was wondering why I had to enter my birthday to verify I was 18 or older to watch this video when they don't actually show anything. I mean, there was no violence or anything, just a bunch of dialogue and text. Then, I caught site of the giant penis they flash for just one frame towards the end, and it all suddenly made sense. Very edgy.
