March NPD: Capcom wins at software while consoles drop

Not too much movement this month in terms of NPD hardware sales. Well, there's a systemic downward movement, but in the relative terms that everyone really cares about, nothing. All the consoles are in the same "rank" relative to one another as they were last week. April should prove a bit more tumultuous, with the PS2 price drop and the DSi launch. Consider this the calm before the (report about the previous month's) storm.

In software, however, there is big news. Between the PS3 and 360, Resident Evil 5 sold a million and a half damn copies. The other big time winner: Pokemans, of course! NPD's software top ten: let us show you it after the break.

im surprised chinatown wars isn't up their. RE5 was great. So was halo wars. Killzone 2 dissapointing for such a good game.

Yeah i'm dissapointed to find a lack of Chinatown Wars on that list. Then again, the heavyweights it's up against are pretty huge. Chinatown Wars will be a long-term seller. It's on a 100 million+ userbase handheld so it HAS to do well.

Chinatown Wars will most probably be there for this month in the top 5. I'm guessing on #3 or #2 on that list.

It's a really good game, and its the first game I got for my DSi.

Sony spends 3 years over hyping and over spending for a beautiful but generic "Halo Killer" but the Halo Spinoff outsells it even if you count last month.

It only outsold it in the US though (and not by much) where the 360 install base is over twice the size of the PS3's.

In worldwide sales, Killzone 2 > Halo Wars.

Darn, those console drop numbers are bad, maybe there is something to this economic downturn after all.

Kudos to RE5 for managing to beat back the threat of Pokemon.

Let's just say that Pokemon fans aren't the kind of people that will rage en masse if something outsells a Pokemon game. If anything, it appears that the fanbase is more likely to -congratulate- said games.

Looks like that other group was right about chinatown wars sales. Or who knows, maybe they were even worse than they predicted. I'd also like to know just how hard madworld tanked but they only release top 10 :(

the thing is, it might not have strong initial sales, but it will continue to sell at a steady rate like most other nintendo games.

Nah I was just stating the obvious with Chinatown wars as #10 on the list only sold 205k and the number predicted by that group for CW was 200k.

Also, I gotta say I'm impressed with The Show's sales. I didn't buy 09 because I bought 08, but I'm surprised it did as well as it did even though it's arguably the most realistic sports game out there.

100k for the first month, according to VGChartz, but i'm not sure if they've corrected for NPD yet.

Soon enough we will know.

I guess it could have been worse, it could have sold far less.

Who cares if Mad World tanked. It'll probably be more like Goldeneye, with poor initial sales building up as word spreads. Even if it isn't, it's not going to stop me from thoroughly enjoying the game and praying for a bigger longer sequel.
