Wow, writing that headline was as close as we've ever come to being Perez Hilton. What an odd moment. Oh, but anyway, G4's Morgan Webb was on Jimmy Fallon's show last night and she brought along the new Wii version of Punch-Out!!.
So now, just a paragraph after feeling like Perez Hilton, we're going to tell you that if you check after the break, you can watch Jimmy Fallon fighting King Hippo as Morgan Webb, Ice-T and Elmo look on. ... This is turning out to be a really weird Thursday.
Yeah, outside of some of the goofy commercials (the we would like to play campaign comes to mind) I can't really recall the last time I saw PR for Nintendo like this. Wonder how they went about picking Punch-Out and to what degree Nintendo was actually involved.
Oh I would bet my net worth that it was absolutely a paid promotion to get Punch-Out some national TV exposure. I think they understand that alot of people remember Mike Tyson's Punch Out as well as the old Arcade one and want to let as many people as possible know that this game is coming out soon. It's a great strategy for a game that will undoubtedly appeal to casual & core users young and old.
It would be way to coeincidential for Morgan "G4" Webb to pull an unreleased Punch Out from her figurative arse so she could play it on national TV with Jimmy Fallon. Now, when Ice T mentioned the games he likes to play (Gears & COD) that seemed genuine and didn't smell of product placement.
Nintendo apparently intends to give this game the full push in terms of hype, advertising, and such. To give it a full-scale, AAA launch, according to a Nintendo rep.
Except G4 isn't a video games only network. Their network motto is really generic so they don't have to be pigeon-holed. A video game only network cannot survive on television (G4 did merge with Tech TV remember). That's why they have Cops, Lost, Heroes, etc, airing and only 1 or 2 game only shows.
The fact is people that are really into video games are: - playing said games instead of watching tv - watch a lot of "video" delivered online through streaming or download. - watch most of their television time-shifted on DVR - Get most of their video game news from sites like joystiq
All of those things do not get the advertisers panties wet when it comes to buying ads. Those are just some of the reason's why G4 sucks as a "video game" station. I do enjoy some of their shows and don't share the hatred towards the network that some chose to express whenever their name is brought up.
fallon really doesnt know how to play properly (using the motion control anyway. classic controller all the way). punch out isnt wii sports boxing. flailing around wont win the matches.
Is it freaking weird to anyone else that behind that chair is a grown ass man pretending to be a bright red monster named Elmo. Everyone knows he is there and they continue to talk to the puppet.
seriously, i found it weird throughout the whole clip. There is a grown ass man kneeling behind that couch with a mic. You'd think Ice-T would have been like "get cho grown ass up boy"

Anyway, there was a sociologist named Goffman who basically boiled down social interaction as if it were a play, or theatrical performance, everyone plays their part. Were everyone there to pay attention to the puppeteer, the performance or illusion would crumble and you'd be left with an awkward segment of Late Night.
no watches jimmy fallon, he is not funny and never will be that being said i would seriously do webb, seriously i would mess that up i just wish she wasent on g4 that channel makes me sick some times, adam sessler is cool too after he ripped the ps3 fanboys a new one.. lol
Fallon's show is horrible. His only saving grace is somehow having the Roots as the house band. But that is all. He was also one of the worst people on SNL always laughing during the skits and almost ruining them.
Conan sucked for the first year he was on. It just takes a little time to really get the feel and so far Jimmy has been pretty good all things considered.
I'd heard of The Roots before the show, but had never heard any of their music. After seeing them on the few episodes I've watched I'm very impressed. They're really, really talented. I'm going to have to look up some of their music eventually.
King Hippo pwns Fallon. Though the video does verify to me anyway the motion system for this game will suck balls. I'll play it in regular mode thank you!
if it wasn't obvious to the insignificant G4 audience before it's certainly obvious to late night viewers across america: morgan webb doesn't have a TV career outside of Xplay.
Someone needs to permanently punch out Jimmy Fallon, that no talent, soulless hack. He doesn't even deserve to be a guest on Late Night, let alone host it.
He may be trying to get some geek cred, with the tech and game demos, but this display just ruined it for him. He has obviously never played Punch Out!! before, and that's just inexcusable. I mean, how can you not know how to beat King Hippo?
I think I might have to give old Jimmy a chance as he's so green that in ways of talk tv that it might actually be good. Jimmy's show might be this generation's Arsenio Hall Show. Anyhow Webb is a hottie for sure but I still need to be sold on her gamer cred. So I'm watching you mrs. Reid.
