Free Street Fighter IV 'Championship' DLC detailed
If the prospect of not having to fork over extra Zenny for Street Fighter IV's upcoming Championship mode isn't enough to put the sonic in your boom, Capcom has released additional details behind the impending DLC's April 24 release.
In addition to previously revealed features, Capcom notes that tournaments will be seeded randomly, based on player skill, with single elimination bouts and double-blind character selection helping to keep fights as fair as possible. In addition, Capcom promises that players who disconnect at the first sign of trouble will be knocked down in their tournament rank. Even better, quitters will have their disconnect percentage put on display for all to mock when the free download hyper uppercuts the PS3 and Xbox 360 later this month.
In addition to all these updates, each platform will have a specific way of interacting with the new Replay Mode:
"On the PlayStation Network, you can rate matches while you watch according to characteristics such as "awesome" or "funny." Replays are then ranked based on these vote ratings.

fantastic! I'm tired of all the disconnects.
Ghen @ Apr 17th 2009 1:31PM
you and me both. Every online versus game should punish disconnects!
Murray @ Apr 17th 2009 3:27PM
I'm tired of lag or being matched at 6000BP guys using Blanka when I'm around 1000.
I hate quitting but sometimes I even feel the urge under those conditions.
RedRaptor @ Apr 17th 2009 10:44AM
The disconnect fix should be worth five Bison Dollars at least.
acefondu @ Apr 17th 2009 10:51AM
lol
Erluti @ Apr 17th 2009 11:04AM
Then wouldn't that be like, 25 British Pounds!
... Which would be like $37!
You must really like that update!
RedRaptor @ Apr 17th 2009 11:06AM
Well, not yet. They haven't kidnapped the queen, remember?
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Apr 17th 2009 11:26AM
How much is that is Schrutebucks or Stanley Nickels?
rohan @ Apr 17th 2009 10:44AM

Ghen @ Apr 17th 2009 1:31PM
ROTFL
RonaldoMoon @ Apr 17th 2009 5:12PM
Do online retailers not deliver to Toronto? I mean...if you are spending that much time looking for it...would it not make more sense to just order it?
rohan @ Apr 17th 2009 7:07PM
i hate u Deeznuts =P
@ ronaldomoon:
first i still don't have a credit card (im 20 =D) and don't want to ask parents also i have any bought anything online, but i might soon if i get a credit card
Cole @ Apr 17th 2009 10:48AM
I LOL @ the disconnect percentage. I think this should become the standard for all games.
Rob @ Apr 17th 2009 10:51AM
Yeah, I would love to see how many people actually do it.
Erluti @ Apr 17th 2009 11:05AM
It really should. Instead of hurting xp or whatever nonsense, it should just say "This tool dropped X% of the games he was in..."
rudolphe @ Apr 17th 2009 10:56AM
4 Player lobbies?????????????
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 17th 2009 11:03AM
This, DAMNIT!!! I want quarter matches like on XBLA SFII!
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Apr 17th 2009 11:26AM
Not gonna happen, which sucks. That is by far the biggest flaw in online SF4.
rudolphe @ Apr 17th 2009 11:31AM
I don't understand why not though...
Vcize @ Apr 17th 2009 4:52PM
Seriously? I thought this was the whole point in the update. Without quarter matches this update is 100% useless to me. How in god's name could they get this working with a couple dudes working on an XBLA/PSN release and not a whole team of dudes working on a retail release?
E.J. @ Apr 17th 2009 6:12PM
At least 4-player. Whole-NXE Party support would be nice (8 player).
sirshabz786 @ Apr 17th 2009 10:56AM
lol.....the percentage details could just be the greatest DLC offering ever....lolllol
Ghen @ Apr 17th 2009 1:33PM
Pretty much, although bikes in burnout is a very close second XD
InvaderDem @ Apr 17th 2009 11:00AM
I may be putting myself out on a limb here, but am I the only one that thinks people should be penalized for doing the same move throughout a fight? (Sorry if this came through twice, I'm not seeing my first comment)
Regardless, I do like what I'm hearing. And I love that it's free.
InvaderDem @ Apr 17th 2009 11:05AM
I should probably clarify that it's the ONLY move they do as well. For instance, Fei Long's triple dash-punch. If it's the only move done throughout a fight, do you think they should get penalized for it like people will get penalized for disconnects?
Rob @ Apr 17th 2009 11:06AM
It is annoying, but punishing them for it might not be possible, or would cause a lot of angry people with lawyers to show up on Capcom's front step
Erluti @ Apr 17th 2009 11:07AM
I would make it track the percentage of times you lose to someone who spammed the same move.
Step yo game up.
Rollins @ Apr 17th 2009 11:07AM
No, because assuming the game is well-balanced (which SFIV is), a sufficiently skilled player will be able to deal with someone like that.
shadow I reaper @ Apr 17th 2009 11:11AM
I have noticed this problem happening a lot less than it used to... who knows if that is because the only people left playing after a couple months are the skilled players or what, but it seems better now.
Jampirow @ Apr 17th 2009 11:24AM
So they are using the same move over and over. So what? That makes them predictable. If you have enough skill, you can just kick their asses. There's no such thing as "unfair" unless the guy is glitching.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Apr 17th 2009 11:28AM
How about we penalize players who are too crappy to punish someone who only does one move?
Here's an idea:
1. Focus Attack
2. Combo
or
1. Block
2. Counterattack
Also the tournament setup will mean after a few fights you will never have to face spammers ever again, if you're actually better than they are.
Ghaleon @ Apr 17th 2009 12:33PM
If you can't stop something, learn how to instead of complaining
Jtenma @ Apr 17th 2009 4:14PM
Here's a hint:
They are doing the same move over and over again because you are FALLING FOR IT!
ccc @ Apr 18th 2009 4:29AM
@rollins
Thats really funny to see you say that SF4 is well balanced.
Serously are U on crack?
The game is nowhere near balanced. Which is exactly why if you knew anything about it you would see that with this update they are attempting to rebalance several characters.
Balanced...lmao.
Mighty Healthy @ Apr 17th 2009 11:21AM
SFIV needs that shtick where the image of a cheese block pops up on the screen. You know, like Primal Rage.
SourceJR @ Apr 17th 2009 11:40AM
So i cant download matches because i have a PS3... well that sucks
Sandman3621 @ Apr 17th 2009 12:09PM
I was thinking the same thing. It's strange, I would have thought it would be capable of doing that. At least the ability to upload to YouTube, but that feature hasn't been stressed enough by Sony, apparently. The ability to download the matches to the hard drive would have been an awesome feature. But, as always the PS3 is left behind once again.
What's up, Sony/Capcom?!
SourceJR @ Apr 17th 2009 12:23PM
i think its possible, hell if you can save Pics from games like MGS4, Noby noby boy, and Linger in shadows to the system then videos cant be to hard. hell cant noby noby boy save video or is it just upload to youtube?
Jason @ Apr 17th 2009 12:12PM
I suck at sf so i'm not going to waste my time since i consider myself a casual player anyways
j.howlett @ Apr 17th 2009 12:14PM
i like that they give free modes. i don't care that they charge for cosmetic things like costumes, but those could be better priced.
Rop @ Apr 17th 2009 12:59PM
What happens when you actually disconnect especially when you constantly get a bad connection? Will I be penalized? And ridiculed?
Deeznuts420 @ Apr 17th 2009 1:16PM
both
yode @ Apr 17th 2009 1:05PM
will the dc % be updated to when the DLC arrives? or does everyone start at 0%
JeffyP00 @ Apr 17th 2009 1:47PM
I've never ONCE ragequitted, as it's COMPLETELY stupid. I always take a beating as an opportunity to learn. But I feel like I frequently get disconnected. I've done all sorts of things trying to rectify this, from calling my ISP and having them monitor my signal, to plugging the 360 directly into the cable modem, and none of them have seemed to rectify the problem. My ISP claims my signal is fantastic. I never get disconnected from LIVE itself, but when disconnected from a match, it often also occurs with getting dropped from a party, and a "disconnected from messenger" notice. One particular guy I play player matches with claims that I'm the only person who he gets disconnected with, so I still think my ISP is sporadically dropping the ball somewhere in the route. I've also noticed that when I've streaming crap going on in a browser while I'm playing (not torrents or anything, I turn that off when gaming, plus I've got a 20mb down connection, so there is plenty of bandwidth for gaming and other activities), the stream will also halt. I try to search again, and nothing... Then I'll see my stream kick back in at the same time I can start search again. Needless to say, it REALLY pisses me off, and if anything, I'm curious to see if my disconnect rate is substantially higher than other people.
yode @ Apr 17th 2009 2:21PM
the way they word it, i think they will be counting dc's from when the dlc arrives
eideal @ Apr 17th 2009 1:54PM
my kid is constantly pressing the goddamn power button if he's trying to get my attention, which is usually when i'm playing a live round (can i get FIVE minutes? PLEASE?)
so i just know ill be fucked here... i only wish they'd track disconnects while winning vs. losing. For the record. *siiigh*
