Unfortunately, we've got a fairly strict policy against lengthy headlines -- otherwise, we would have given this post the title it properly deserves: "German ratings board Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK) tries to rate Guitar Hero: Van Halen, finds music therein to be far too awesome, spontaneously explodes." Try fitting that into an RSS feed.
Yes, the USK recently reported that it has rated the rumored rhythm title, which it actually calls Guitar Hero headlining Van Halen, for the PS3 and 360. If this rating guarantees the title's existence, we can't wait to hear absolutely everything about the game before Activision decides to formally announce it six months from now.

i thought this was official already? no matter, so long as its got more than 40+ tracks (with no covers thank you) i'll get it when it hits the bargain bin. (a decent 15 dollars USD instead of 60 for what should be DLC in the first place)

And they're all going to sell well. So why should they stop making GH games again?

Because I'd rather have a friend playing Rock Band with me online than a friend playing a Guitar Hero: Muppets edition that I don't probably own. That's only an example of "Why".

They should have something like Rock Band Store, which enables you to choose the songs that you like and want, instead of spewing out $60 with only a hand full of songs that are fun to play. Plus there's no variety on exclusive artist GH versions. Then theres the issue Archon addressed, there are so many different versions its not very likely many of your friends will all buy the same one.

while i can understand ppls concern about the costs and such, i still think ppl should lay off the hate. There is a market for these disks, myself included. Sure id rather they released the full game as a downloadable, but im not gonna argue. Its Van Halen... VAN HALEN. Sure its not for everyone, but this is really awesome news for some1 like me. Id take that one game of predominantly Van Halen music over every single currently existing RB/GH games put together.
I think these band focused releases is a brilliant idea, as somebody can buy a game consisting of music they actually WANT TO PLAY, rather than compilations with only a small handfull of songs that they actually want. If u dont like it, DONT BUY IT simple as. now stop whining, and feel happy for us Van Halen fans.

What about buying just the songs that they want to play? That's the right answer.

@aristokrat
the problem ive found with the DLC, is that there are only a very limited amount of tracks. for example, on GHIII there was a Virtuoso pack, which had a Steve Vai track, a Joe satriani track and a bucket head track. While this was right up my alley, it was only 3 tracks... and it didnt take long at all to get through that content... its almost not worth the money. These specialised band releases are good as u get a good decent amount of content and as such feels worth my time and money. If you like a band, u dont just want 3 tracks, and a release with 30 odd of their tracks is just amazing.
If Van Halen isnt your thing, thats fair enough, nothing wrong with that, just dont buy it. In pretty much the same way i didnt buy the aerosmith and metallica disks.

If it was all specialized band releases, you never would have seen any of those songs, because there's not a big enough market. Yet with DLC, Rock Band has released stuff like the Pixies album, not completely mainstream, and there is a good amount of content from one band. The only good reason I can think of for disc-based release is when the artist refuses to be just lumped in with the rest of the bands for some reason (see: the Beatles), and they're are a good enough artist to merit such demands (and even then, I think it's lame, but I'd rather have the Beatles than not).

firstly, i NEVER said that there should ONLY be specialised band releases, that would be bad, and most deffinately isnt the case. I was merely stating that their existance was infact a good thing, as there are alot of ppl, like myself, that would much rather have the focussed experienced rather than have a game full of 'skip tracks'. And ill state again, if you dont want it, dont buy it, theyre not forcing you to.
secondly,
Quote:

Personally id rather have Van Halen than not. But is this not ok? is it because its not the beatles, because its GH and not RB? or because Van Halen arnt good enough to warrant a release? because imo, Van Halen are better than the beatles. Sure their not as mainstream, but do not forget, when it comes to GUITAR HEROES, there are none greater and more influential than Edward Van Halen short of Jimi Hendrix himself, and even thats debatable. This alone is reason enough to warrant a release on a game called GUITAR HERO.
I have a hunch, that if this was Rock Band: Van Halen, there wouldnt be nearly the hostility towards it.

I'm a huge Van Halen fan (Roth-era only), so I may have to bend my RB bias a bit and pick this up.
And I sincerely hope there is absolutely no Hagar in this game at all. Please. Please no Van Hagar.

Attention Activision: You're doing it wrong
Damn, they are totally off the mark with the way they are proceeding with this franchise. Rock Band's use of DLC is so far superior than this muddled vision of releasing stand alone-games for individual bands. Sure Rock Band is going to do it but damn, that is with the Beatles. Sure Eddie can really shred an axe, but most of their songs are really dated, especially the stuff from the Sammy Hagar years. The David Lee Roth stuff is dated as well, but at least the over the top nature of it makes it still fun. Shit, there is no way I'd drop any cash on this. I'd certainly buy some VH tracks through the Rock Band store, but no way it deserves a whole game like this.

Fine with me. I actually like these because in about a year or two I can just buy it at 10 bucks since DLC doesn't really go on sale (much).

People are getting on Activision for releasing single band games. RockBand had the AC/DC stand alone, and the Beatles. They are only one disc behind GH. I love both games, but I believe it would be better suited for DLC.

AC/DC wasn't technically a standalone game. Harmonix didn't want to do it. They wanted to make it just a track pack but MS forced them to make it a full game, but it didn't have all the RB2 features. + it was only $30 and you can put them onto your RB2....

I'm not sure if there's ever been a band more perfectly suited to have it's own full band game. All four members of Van Halen were some of the best in the business. Color me excited.
Well, as long as it's all Roth-era.

How about instead of releasing all these stand alone games, they release a lot of really good track packs for GH:WT. GH3 and everything after look very similar anyways. Shit release some GTA L&D style addon's or some band character pack dlc where you can rock out in GH:WT as your favorite band.
These band themed games are pointless and just taking away from a product which should be focusing more on one upping Rock Band.
