Rock Band Beatles footage spotted at Coachella [update]
If we've said it once, we've said it a thousand times: Sneaking cameras into concerts is illegal, folks. And so it's with sheer bravado that we've posted the Paul McCartney performance from two days ago at Coachella in California, playing "Got to Get You Into My Life," above. You'll understand though -- we had to -- as you'll see on the Beatles-sized screen behind Mr. McCartney some awfully interesting Rock Band-esque characters backing him up.
Update: Thanks to commenter Comtar for pointing out official confirmation of The Beatles: Rock Band video during Mr. McCartney's set at Coachella, via McCartney's website: "It was a night of firsts and was the unexpected, unannounced world premiere of the images from the coming Beatle Rock Band game which played on vast screens throughout "Got To Get You Into My Life." Looks like it wasn't a rumor after all!
[Thanks, Adam!]

well maybe it could be a new mode in RB, where you could take out the streaming notes and just sing or play the drum/ guitar from memory. I think GH:Aerosmith did the same thing
David @ Apr 19th 2009 12:04PM
Most of the GH and I believe both RB games have "performance" mode where there is no track on screen. Couple that with Rockband's "no fail" mode and you could record a music video and play it back just like in this video. I've done this with RB2 before and it's pretty neat looking.
Andre Riggins @ Apr 19th 2009 2:24PM
they have it. its performance mode.
Comtar @ Apr 19th 2009 11:49AM
Paul McCartney confirmed it on his webpage. I'd say that's a reliable source.

"It was a night of high emotion, the anniversary of losing Linda, memories of George and John and Liverpool youth, it was a night of conquering a whole new crowd, it was a night of firsts and was the unexpected, unannounced world premiere of the images from the coming Beatle Rock Band game which played on vast screens throughout Got To Get You Into My Life."

They're probably gonna email back with a cease and desist notice :P

sneaking cameras into SOME concerts is illegal...many artists allow and encourage it.
fffunfarm06 @ Apr 19th 2009 11:53AM

judging from the video, ide say sneaking cameras into concerts is extremely easy...

Okay, I'm getting old.
WTF is Coachanella? It sounds like a giant sporting event.
busydoingnothing @ Apr 19th 2009 12:27PM
Coachella is a 3 day music festival in Indio, California, that hosts a bunch of bands. It's relatively new and quite possibly the best festival around these days.
Diskoboy7 @ Apr 19th 2009 12:31PM
Gotcha.
I guess it's a west coast thing. I live in Tennessee - we have Bonaroo.
But then again, I don't go to it, either.
Mike @ Apr 19th 2009 12:59PM
Bonarooo Woooo! Charlotte NC here. I wanna go to Bonarooo and see all the stinky hippy chicks one year. :-)

New?!?!?
Coachella started back in 1999! It's been going on every year since then except for 2000.
Discotheque @ Apr 19th 2009 5:48PM
I like Glastonbury and Ultra Music Festival more. But yeah Coachella is a big music festival, usually get big headliners. Such as Sir Paul McCartney. And I think last year they managed to snag Rage Against the Machine.
VaultICEE @ Apr 19th 2009 9:42PM
He said RELATIVELY new... I don't think that deserves a downvote.
10 years doesn't exactly make it "old", does it?

Wow!
Nice, I'm so stoked to get this game. It looks good. Now I just want to see what the instruments look like.
Peace,

I think it is really cheap to advertise your new video game at a concert where people paid 100+ per ticket. What a whore.
Euphonius @ Apr 19th 2009 1:54PM
Oh do one.
Loving the look of the game from the snippets there. I cannae wait to get my hands on this game.
And Macca sounds in great form judging from that song.
Gally @ Apr 19th 2009 2:19PM
Well, I'm excited!
Alex @ Apr 19th 2009 3:17PM
LOL @ the stupid camera phones. Bringing a camera phone to a concert = TOOL box!
arrness @ Apr 19th 2009 7:40PM
...have you ever been to a concert?
ordigas @ Apr 19th 2009 3:19PM
"If we've said it once, we've said it a thousand times: Sneaking cameras into concerts is illegal, folks."
Well, you shouldn't say it as often, since "sneaking" cameras into Coachella is perfectly LEGAL.
From the official Coachella website, under the "Event Info > Rules/FAQ" section:
"OK Digital Cameras
(Non-Pro)"
UK31337 @ Apr 19th 2009 4:00PM
I think it's possible that "Got to get you into my life" will be included in the game, now.
XenMaster4 @ Apr 19th 2009 4:51PM
Legal or not, it always bothers me to see modern concert footage like this where a good portion of the crowd is standing perfectly still to keep their cameras steady.
That's gotta be a weird feeling to be up on stage doing your best to entertain and everyone in the crowd is just standing still staring at you.
Feba @ Apr 19th 2009 5:09PM
Yeah, must really bug those orchestras the way everyone sits down and stays quiet!
Fact: If you're not making a ton of noise and moving around like you've lost control of your muscles, you can't possibly enjoy music.
Some of us don't go to concerts at all because of people like you. And I'm sure Paul didn't mind how the crowd of people stood and stared.
Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 19th 2009 5:47PM
it is unnerving for the musicians to be playing for a totally silent crowd. it sends a message that says they're all bored and that the concert sucks.
XenMaster4 @ Apr 20th 2009 1:41AM
wow, calm down Feba.
I'm sure you realize that crowds at this kind of concert and crowds at an orchestra event are two very different things.
While I don't advocate disruptive behavior at public events I would expect at least some sort of movement form a crowd at a performance which centers on music and rhythm. Really, I think I'd be weirded-out by people playing "human tripod" in large groups regardless of the setting.
As for "people like me", I've actually never been to a concert - and if I did I would be respectful of those around me. I don't know you, so I don't assume you're a total jerk. I'd like to think you'd give me the same courtesy.
Farseer (GDI) @ Apr 20th 2009 9:45AM
Lol, I just got this great mental image of people moshing at an Orchestra performance. Dude with spiked hair gets tossed from the pit and bowls over old dude in a tuxedo. Lol.
pibs @ Apr 20th 2009 6:16PM
You should of seen the crowd during Franz Ferdinand! Basically by Paul's performance everyone was pretty much tired or drunk.
Rocketboy @ Apr 19th 2009 5:59PM
Mark Chapman = My Hero
I hate rich drugged out douchbags who think that they have all the answers to life.
MystileArmor @ Apr 19th 2009 6:20PM
You're a fucking douchebag.
John Lennon got murdered infront of his family. Wether or not you like Yoko Ono, you don't wish something like that onto anyone. Not to mention the pain Sean and Julian had to go through.
How would you like it if your father got murdered right in front of your house?
Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 19th 2009 6:41PM
not cool, man. not cool.
Rocketboy @ Apr 20th 2009 1:14AM
I love low ranked comments like this even more than my high ranked comments...
If my dad was this much of a prick, I woulda pulled the trigger myself.
Rocketboy @ Apr 20th 2009 8:09AM
Oh, and Jullian's a twat as well.
Farseer (GDI) @ Apr 20th 2009 9:55AM
Oh, leave Rocketboy alone - he's just misguided.
A couple of months ago, he called Osama Bin Laden his hero because he had the strength to take out thousands of rich, drugged out pricks with one shot.
Before that, he called Hitler his hero because he killed... no, I better not repeat it. Just check his comment history.
Rocketboy is obviously misguided and delusional at best, a troll at worst. In fact, I'm surprised he hasn't been banned yet.
Rocketboy @ Apr 20th 2009 10:02AM
Lol at your fake trolling.
You see, you can actually click on my name, and see that none of that is true.
Farseer (GDI) @ Apr 20th 2009 10:07AM
"Fake" trolling, huh? How does that work?
By all means, click on his name for comment history. Keep in mind, though, dude idolizes murderers.
Rocketboy @ Apr 20th 2009 10:56AM
A: If you can't realize that Mark Chapman is actually not my Hero, you're an idiot. Do I hate Lennon with every core of my being? Yes. Am I glad to see him dead, you are correct. If you're a fan of someone was richer than most people will ever be, telling people to reject commercialism, embrace this vague concept of 'peace', (and how that you just need to give it a chance, you know, untill someone points a gun at your head and pulls a trigger), then you're as big of a tool as he was. Take more drugs, tune out the world more. That'll work out good for you.
B: Yes, go ahead, click on my name, and You'll never find the statements you atribute to me.
C: Do you hate everyone who has taken a life? Is Dr. Kevorkian a ruthess murder in your eyes? Are the fine men and women in our armed forces disgusting murderers? Do you protest in front of abortion clinics, and fight against the death penality?
Oh wait, should I just say to give peace a chance?
Farseer (GDI) @ Apr 20th 2009 11:03AM
On second thought, be wary about checking his comment history. It looks as though Rocketboy has anger issues as well as being misguided. That's a dangerous combination.
In fact, tread very lightly - he may well discover that you don't agree with him and seek to end your life. And he'll be glad that you're dead. *shudder
Farseer (GDI) @ Apr 20th 2009 11:09AM
Oh, and there's probably some psychosis and denial going on as well as the anger issues:
For example:
"Mark Chapman = My Hero"
"...I woulda pulled the trigger myself."
then: "...Mark Chapman is actually not my Hero, you're an idiot."
