As you'll see in the clip after the break, Perry quickly deflects the usual uninformed jibber jabber of View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, telling her, "This is something you know nothing about," and, managing to navigate the rest of the co-hostesses giggling, explains the hand pain he recently endured from hours spent patrolling the Capital Wasteland. Though Perry's latest film looks less like our cup of tea and more like a 'made for TV' movie, he just jumped up a few cool points in our books.
Matthew Perry suffers Fallout 3-related injury, not radiation poisoning

Poor Matthew Perry. First, he gets trotted out on ABC's The View to promote the new movie 17 Again where he plays an old version of teen star Zach Efron. Second, he gets poked and prodded by the various deleterious hosts of the show. And finally, he gets quickly ushered offstage after admitting to playing so much Fallout 3 that he needed to see a doctor for his hands.

Or he's just really rich and can afford to get injections at the slightest sign of discomfort.

I didn't know about that till you mentioned it but I looked into it and "Matthew is missing part of his middle finger on his right hand." That doesn't seem like quite enough to result in an injury that requires medical attention. It may be a slight inconvenience because he might have to use his right index finger for both the right bumper and the right trigger, but other than that his missing middle finger shouldn't have a big affect.

It's enough to get carpal tunnel way faster if got less grip overall to work with. I don't know about you, but I grip my joystick like it owes me money.
And I hang onto controllers pretty tightly, too.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can result from swelling in the wrist (Carpal tunnel) caused by irritation due to tendons rubbing back and forth against the flexor retinaculum in that area (when you open and close your fingers a lot such as long bouts of gaming), causing inflammation, and this then squeezes the median nerve, causing pain. The injections were anti-inflammatories administered to the site of inflammation for quicker action.

Yeah, he talked about it on Jimmy Fallon, too, but the results were much funnier and pro-gaming.

I have a feeling it wasn't carpel tunnel, but rather a tendon issue such as "trigger finger". My mother had an accident resulting in trigger thumb on both of her hands. She needed steroid shots to relax the tendon sheath (synovial tube) so she could move her thumb freely again. It wasn't permanent and she had to eventually get surgery. Now her middle and ring fingers sometimes lock in the bent position until the moves them with her other hand.
To sum it up: hand injuries can cause other problems in places you wouldn't quite expect (see thumb injury resulting in locked fingers). I couldn't imagine not being able to use my thumbs for weeks at a time.

I'm about a year younger than him and am an avid gamer as well. My longest sessions are about six hours by the end of which my hands may start cramping up. Fallout 3 is a HUGE world where I'm still finding new places to explore after three runs through the game. I'm thinking he is playing around 8-12 hours a day.
