"Wooo! Having an official release date is awesome!" shouted Tim Schafer, lead singe-er at Double Fine Productions. "And how cool is it that EA threw down the dough to have the name of an entire month changed to Rocktober?" Pretty cool, Tim -- but not as cool as the reception we plan on giving those stupid intervening months whenever they get in our pre-melted faces.
Brutal Legend rocks up on Oct. 13

Though that one Nazi at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark would have you believe otherwise, having your face melted off by a supernatural display of awesome power is probably one of the best things that could ever happen to you. Since the overwrought, open-world rock epic Brütal Legend promises to scorch our grinning mugs in similar fashion, we're pleased to note that it's scheduled to arrive on October Rocktober 13th in the US (and the 16th in Europe).

Wow, I am struck with a sense of foreboding. October seems awfully close to the holiday rush for a title such as this. Perhaps video game companies are doomed to repeat the past endlessly. Perhaps they are betting on Jack Black's brand power to help this game stand out from what is sure to be a crowd, just like every other year.
Don't get me wrong, I am excited for this game, but I don't think it's something that is on the general public's radar, and therefore could easily get passed over for more established games (read: sequels to blockbuster franchises). Unless, god forbid, EA actually markets the game, with TV spots and such. Still, seems like even September would have been a safer launch time.

Great! I hate metal music, but I love Schafer. And this game just sounds so interesting. Definitely will buy.

I play so few new games anymore I have to chose which ones we get carefully. I'm not exactly what one would call a metal fan, and there probably wouldn't be a single Jack Black film in my top 100... Brutal Legend still makes it on the get list no questions asked. Can't wait!

"We"? Is this some sort of split personality deal?

Best sentence on Joystiq this week.
I fall into using the royal "we" sometimes because I spend a signficant portion of my day writing customer service emails, writing as "we the company". Some days it bleeds back into my normal writing.

I thought it was slated for the summer? I'm disappointed, but after seeing the word "Rocktober", there is obviously no other month this should come out. Let's hope it doesn't get buried.

Okay, I know it's not really kosher, but I'll risk a little self-promotion here since it's relevant to the topic.
Over at pxielsandgrids.com we're doing a little thing we're calling 'The Year of the Schafer', where every month up until Brutal Legend drops we're playing through a game from his catalog and discussing it at length on our podcast. Kind of a spoiler-heavy recap of all of his work to get everyone pumped for the game's release.
We'll be discussing 'The Secret of Monkey Island' at the beginning of May.
Just thought I'd mention it since there's a lot of Schafer fans hanging around here.

As a PCWii gamer, I'm gonna have to figure out how to play this in the near future. Tim Schafer is made of win.
