Microsoft readying 31-game barrage for Japan

Japanese gamers will finally get to suit up as a decidedly not dead yet Commander Shepard when the original Mass Effect finally graces Japanese store shelves on May 21, while players will have to wait until later this summer to cure the locust plague in Gears of War 2.
Another 14 XBLA titles were confirmed at the event, including the previously announced remake of mech shooter Virtual On Oratorio Tangram, which will arrive in Japan on April 29. Other notable upcoming downloads include Mega Man 9 in June, Space Invaders Extreme this spring and The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match sometime in 2010. And what of Square Enix, which plans fill Japanese XBLA appetites this year with puzzler Yosumin Live, Project Cube and the wonderfully titled 0 Day Attack on Earth (pictured)? Well, we have those trailers for you after the break.

0 day Attack on Earth looks like a nice mix of traditional shmups and twin-stick shooters

Why would Microsoft put off releasing two of its best games in a market where it is being soundly beaten to a pulp by the PS3 until now?!? That makes no sense from a marketing perspective... (correct me if I'm wrong here)
Ignatius @ Apr 21st 2009 9:47AM
They're trying to reverse that?
iamnotafish @ Apr 21st 2009 9:48AM
I figure they're trying to rectify that mistake, but I don't know why they wouldn't have done it to begin with. Oh well.
Prof_Chaos @ Apr 21st 2009 9:52AM
Are they localizing the dialogue. That would take a friggin long time for ME.

Why don't all these glorious shmups make their way across to the Land of Pal? Or maybe they have. My 360 isn't in my possesion at the moment, let alone connected to the net.
Having said that, most of these games have long been announced, and the ones that hadn't (KOF: UM) look rather regressive. I wouldn't use the word 'terrible' to describe anything by SNK, but, yeah, it looks regressive.
This list of small budget games doesn't fight the general understanding that the 360 is suffering from a slowdown. And as credit gets tighter, more studios will pull back from full blown HD projects. The studios that are still standing, that is.

Wonder if they're getting the UFC game. MMA is huge in Japan.

Mushihimesama Futari got announced for a 360 port, from Cave. You might know it from that "Most Insane Last Boss Ever" clip on Youtube.
Mr Khan @ Apr 21st 2009 11:47AM
And the loss of Megaman 9 exclusivity
Not that it matters by now, at any rate. More interesting is the Banjo Tooie confirmation.

Wtf is happening in Yosumin? o.o

I was really expecting them to announce Blue Dragon 2 or whatever Mistwalker's next project is supposed to be.
I am also pretty shocked Square-Enix is making something like that. You know, a real game.
