Possible Marvel vs Capcom 2 teaser site countdown
The demand for a downloadable release of Marvel vs Capcom 2 is high; we don't need to tell you that. When the game was rated by the ESRB, we found ourselves as giddy as a Sentinel hunting down rogue mutants. Don't even get us started on a possible teaser site for the game: tu4ar.com.
The domain appears to be a reference to the catchy character select song "Take You for a Ride," and further inspection of the site reveals a giant "2" (in the background of the countdown clock), which is similar in font to the Marvel vs Capcom 2 logo. The teaser countdown appears to imply that in 6 days the site will evolve into a real web site, complete with stuff to click and actual content. (Presumably, this countdown could coincide with a press embargo being established at CAPTIVATE09 this week.)
That's not all, though. There are two telling domains that are connected to the URL in question: http://dev02.capcomusa.net/ and http://dev02.capcomusa.net/mvc2gmt/. If you click the latter link, the same teaser from tu4ar.com shows up. Oh, and a Capcom Unity tweet and recent auction offer further evidence as to the creator of tu4ar.com.
Still, it's important to remain skeptical. All of this evidence -- compelling as it may be -- is by no means official confirmation. We'll update just as soon as the countdown expires and Capcom announces ... well, whatever it's going to announce.

I hope they do a HD remix of the first one just like SF II.
SUPERRADSAM @ Apr 21st 2009 2:34PM
That would be incredible.
Dirty @ Apr 21st 2009 2:37PM
That is my hope, although it did take them waaaayyyy to long to finish it.
Jampirow @ Apr 21st 2009 2:43PM
Sadly, it's pretty much impossible. Considering how big in term of characters MVC2 is, it would take years and years.
Zertoss @ Apr 21st 2009 2:49PM
The stages were all 3D, so they wouldn't have to be completely redone. Some new textures would probably suffice.
Still, MvC2 had a ludicrous character roster, so the characters alone would take a long time, but if they really did start HD remixing this game at about the same time as SFII (which was a rumor floating around), then it's possible that this is nearing completion.
Kizzle @ Apr 21st 2009 3:19PM
Not a shot in hell. They would have told us by now if they were going to do that, as they would have been working on it for years at this point.
This will likely just be a port. Just hope it's better than the XBox/PS2 versions...
Rich @ Apr 21st 2009 3:53PM
To expect a complete HD makeover is unrealistic
hopefully they applied some hq filter like the one on ZSNES
Spartan @ Apr 21st 2009 7:15PM
That would be great!
But, by the way, can anyone please tell me why there were two wolverines?
I would love to see CvM3 released.
jorojoserojas @ Apr 21st 2009 8:03PM
@Spartan
One Wolverine had adamantium claws, the other had bone claws.
NoughtSoClever @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:32AM
They have different healing rates (red health, not yellow) take different levels of damage, have a couple differences in move lists, and different super combos.
Jnas @ Apr 21st 2009 2:36PM
As long as they get rid of that GOD AWFUL jazz music, this will be awesome.
acefondu @ Apr 21st 2009 2:38PM
That god awful Jazz music bought this house, and put food on your plate! Wait....wrong forum... sorry.
RavenLord @ Apr 21st 2009 6:04PM
So why has everyone voted you down for the comment about the game's music? I agree the music wasn't all that great in it and thought it was a little out of place considering the type of game it is and the content. I own the Dreamcast version of it and still enjoy it to this day. The music in the character select screen is grating though. Just the same lyric sung over and over again while you make your selection. I guess they ran out of ideas because they had so many characters to focus on!
If this game is re-released as a downloadable game on PSN/LIve that would be awesome!! Then I'd have the English version as well!
Batzarro @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:15AM
Never did like the Jazzy tunes as much as the ones in MVC2 . I just took it as they not being able to fit too much AWESOME in the game:)
Seriously, though, you can put your own.
ice~ @ Apr 21st 2009 2:36PM
COOL!!
pibs @ Apr 21st 2009 3:43PM
First day purchase...........if released.
Matt @ Apr 21st 2009 2:38PM
I've been playing the xbox version again since I heard the news, its a really great game I don't understand ign's review of it but whatever. An HD Remix would be amazing, this is one arcade game I'd see myself continually playing. 50 something characters makes it worth a purchase regardless of the price.
cylet @ Apr 21st 2009 2:42PM
:]
Mayne @ Apr 21st 2009 2:42PM
Doubt they'll be getting rid of the jazz music, since they are after all teasing us rather tongue-in-cheekily with a reference to the most annoying track in the game...
That said, hopefully they are bringing a downloadable version to fruition. That would be incredible.
AsherR @ Apr 21st 2009 2:43PM
I love that they seem to acknowledge, in a tongue in cheek way, that "Take you for a Ride" is annoying as hell.
I loved the game, but that theme song made me want to bash my head in....
AWWW, damn, it's stuck in my head now....
AsherR @ Apr 21st 2009 2:58PM
Because I had to...

BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Apr 21st 2009 2:47PM
Pretty compelling stuff... There is no doubt Capcom's involved with this. And it does seem to be a somewhat-subtle reference to MvC2.
vex_101 @ Apr 21st 2009 2:58PM
Hope its mvc2hdremix always wanted that game for ps2.
that game rocks HARD.
atrimus @ Apr 21st 2009 3:01PM
guess i'm gonna have to do a bit of research to determine whether or not this relates to the PS3/PSN as well, since Joystiq only tagged XBox.
Richard 2.5 @ Apr 21st 2009 4:55PM
The link to the ESRB post shows PS3 as one the platforms it was rated for.
baby sea tuna @ Apr 21st 2009 3:05PM
I'll just keep my fingers crossed as I put my Xbox copy up on ebay ($.15 listings today!)
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Apr 21st 2009 3:08PM
Ban-check...
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Apr 21st 2009 3:09PM
Nevermind, it's just my internet fucking with me again.
Zertoss @ Apr 21st 2009 3:10PM
Well tell your internet to knock it off or else.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Apr 21st 2009 3:19PM
I never understand "ban-check" posts...Why not take half a second and add something to this post, then see if it posts?
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Apr 21st 2009 3:33PM
Well, it wouldn't let me post in the KZ2 news hence the ban assumption, and I wanted to check quickly. Sadly MvC2 isn't very relevant to my interests.
BunnySlapper @ Apr 21st 2009 3:25PM
I want to see one of the skilled modders out there make an actual arcade machine around a 360 for classic games like this.
Seriously, a cool decoration for my games room with real joystick controls built around a LIVE connected 360 console? I'd buy that.
Of course it'd be cooler if I could make it...sadly I'm not that skilled :(.
BunnySlapper @ Apr 21st 2009 3:25PM
Hmm actually now that I think about it...this might not be that hard. 3rd party joystick controllers for 360 are already on market, I bet I could dissect one of those and frankenstein it into something workable to mount in a case...
Ok that's it...I'm totally doing this. More for the fun of the project than anything else.
Temidien @ Apr 21st 2009 3:26PM
I've seriously considered doing this and if anyone has any info on shelling an arcade machine, please hit me up.
BunnySlapper @ Apr 21st 2009 3:35PM
Something like this is where I'm going to start:
http://www.gamersreports.com/article/24/
Boff @ Apr 22nd 2009 7:10AM
If your going to do that then just build a MAME cab and you can have all the original arcade ROM goodness.
I built one a few years back, found everything I needed (info-wise I mean) online.
Do a search for "building a MAME cab"
Good luck
ArmV @ Apr 21st 2009 3:11PM
Dead Rising 2.
Just sayin'
The Dark Wayne @ Apr 21st 2009 4:34PM
Why would there be a teaser site for a game already announced with screens even in GI
Snake Robot Podium @ Apr 21st 2009 3:16PM
lo. "further inspection of the site", AKA looking at the site
foxhound421 @ Apr 21st 2009 3:19PM
it wasn't until i saw the '2' ghosted behind the countdown clock that i freaked out!
i don't think Capcom needs to do an HD Remix treatment to this game. the original sprites look great as it is. just upscale them to look sharp on an HD set, make the online functionality as good as it was for HD Remix (not the crappy SFIV online system) and i'll buy it for both PS3 & 360.
Temidien @ Apr 21st 2009 3:24PM
Agreed. A simple port and good networking would guarantee a double purchase from me. Any remixing or new sprites would be nice, but not necessary.
Temidien @ Apr 21st 2009 3:23PM
My girl just bought MVC2 for Xbox for me for an anniversary gift and I still couldn't be happier to get a remake for Live. Needless to say, I'll be practicing non-stop until release.
DangerMouse @ Apr 21st 2009 3:24PM
MvC2 is better than nothing at all, and would buy it in an instant, but i'd love for them to release all 6 Marvel games on one disc, or at least have a couple of the other games as unlockables. That would be awesome.
xgarryx @ Apr 21st 2009 7:44PM
man thats a buy from day one id even import it!
Angusailde @ Apr 21st 2009 3:36PM
As long as I can play it online and it doesn't look like poo, I'll be happy.
chaos123x @ Apr 21st 2009 3:44PM
Oh no! I hope I don't go onto the shoryuken.com forums again, those kids on there are real ass holes.
Give me Stree Fighter III 3rd Strike in HD and I will stop dreaming about King Of Fighters.
Jawmuncher @ Apr 22nd 2009 3:04PM
Awesome can't wait.
Just a port with online play will be fine by me.
Would be nice if they added some new characters and did some balancing though.
(Doubt it but it's not a big deal)
datniceguy @ Apr 21st 2009 3:46PM
I came. When I heard the news. Happens all the time. Ugh.
NeoGohan @ Apr 21st 2009 3:46PM
Next, Capcom vs SNK 2 please.
Mest @ Apr 21st 2009 3:57PM
yeah like seriously everyone hates on capcom vs snk series personally its way better and balanced then mvc2 and god damn it needs to be bc on xbox 360
