Ex-EA employee and enormously popular developer Will Wright is apparently only halfway out of EA's doors. Talking with GameDaily, Wright confirmed his intention to stay on as a consultant for EA Maxis (the development team behind Spore). Saying, "I'm spending a certain amount of time every month actually working with the Spore team on future versions of Spore and expansions," Wright (seemingly for the first time) announced his plans beyond his work with upcoming venture, the Stupid Fun Club.
Additionally, Wright commented on the possibility of console iterations of Spore, frankly stating, "For us it's really an opportunity/cost issue ... we either do that [consoles] or we continue creating new applications on the PC or we kind of go into the handheld arena." Guess he forgot about that upcoming Wii title, Spore Hero! While we're looking forward to what Wright's next move is with SFC, it's good to hear the man behind Spore is still helping to develop the game moving forward. The money problem doesn't hurt either, eh?

I think that one of the requirements for games is to use the lowest common denominator. Not everyone has a keyboard/mouse (I'm sure they do, but not on the PS3).
I remember this discussion with Unreal3. They said they didn't want to give anyone an advantage. I dunno, I think games should at least have the option there, but I wouldn't expect this to happen anytime soon.

Spore and The Sims 3 were made to support slow computers. Your computer must be as old as the PS2 if it can't handle those games.

Er, meant The Sims 2. The Sims 3 will be more system intensive as it's an open world game.

keyboards and mice can be bout for any console, who would do it though?
The wii's pointer could make a sims game possible.

Do Not Want
Reinstalled it when I got my new rig last month and I played for like twenty minutes and haven't touched it since. Biggest gaming letdown so far of the 21st century.

Agreed. I'm not even sure if you can even call it a game it was so pointless. If it is one, then it's by far the most shallow and pointless game I've ever played. I'm just glad I didn't buy it.

I agree wholeheartedly. I was so disappointed, and so glad that I elected to play it at a friends house instead of buying it. Thank you Securom, for helping me avoid a terrible game.

I didn't play Spore, so I can't comment on the gameplay. But when you have a game that's in devolopment for several years, gets lots of press about how it will be great, due to previous work, and then it comes out and it doesn't impress? People start wondering what the hype was and why the delay.
Any old PC gamers remember Chris Roberts and the Wing Commander games? They were great. So he tried Strike Commander - similar game style, but a different "take" on the genre. It had several delays, and when it came out, it also didn't impress. Duke Nukem Forever is going to have to give everyone an orgasm every time the play, or people will slam it.
I for one am not interested in Spore. The game came out last year, and it was not a big hit. Three or four months after its release, and it was dead.

Spore was a technical masterpiece and a gameplay flop.
Honestly, I'm not sure I'm still interested in what Will Wright is doing anymore.
He seems far more interested in building virtual worlds; or rather, creating the tools that let people build their virtual worlds-- but not actually putting a ton of thought into gameplay.
There's nothing wrong with giving people creative toys-- I love me some legos-- but they're not games.
If he were working on the creative tools behind map-maker programs, that would be incredible. If he were working on the design tools for a "[Genre] Maker" game, that would be stupendous. As a game designer, though, he's not very good at making experiences that are consistently fun.

I kind of got the impression, at least with some of the earlier interviews with Will, that Spore was an experiment with procedural programming. I was excited with the concept and less excited about the game that it was connected to.
With any luck he will move the lessons learned into something else, even The Sims4 would work well and give the user a lot more control without having to bust out the content creation tools.
I think the Sims 2 had the first touch of his concept when two sims had a baby, it was meant to combine the 'dna' of those sims and spit out a kid with features from parents.

Isn't the point of the Sims games is to escape reality? Isn't that the reason we play video games in general? So no, leave the virtual world and the real world separate.

Spore was pants imo. It had potential but the flow of the game was completely wrong and fragmented that the fun was sucked away.
Releasing on consoles would be a mistake if you ask me. A majority of people who wanted to play it played the PC version. Many didn't like what they saw. What's the chances of them buying it?
Now, Sim 3. I'd like to see that on a console (or Fantasy World Dizzy for that matter but thats a different story).
