Yeah Live pricing is really screwed up when you think about the fact that Geometry Wars was $5 and look how much infinite replay value that game has.

Where's all the sales on Live Arcade games that they were talking about a year ago? I figured there'd be sales on a weekly basis, but as it is - they've had a few, but by and large they're picking the wrong prices and the wrong discounts on the wrong games. What was the last sale, like $1.50 off an 800 point title? Thanks but no thanks.

Vote with your dollars people.

And while I'm at it, let me repeat this for the eleventy billionth time -
Get rid of the stupid $%&#!$@ points and use actual money, you know, DOLLARS??!

If I want a $10 game, let me pay $10. Not $12 to have 200 points sit in my account for no reason because I refuse to pay for themes and gamerpics.

Thank you.

Does anyone here that's complaining about the price of the game have any idea how much this game cost to make? I sure don't.

You can download the trial and decide for yourselves whether or not it is worth your hard-earned $15 - that's fine. But to spew all this BS about price-gouging and "MS really screwed us" is ludicrous. This game was announced (to my knowledge) around Jan 2008. So it's theoretically been in the works for that long or longer.

How much does it cost to have a staff of developers, copy writers, testers, artists, audo engineers, etc, do all that work for that long? Were there licensing fees that needed to be paid to Broderbund or Doug E. Smith (original creator)? How much is the rent in the studio where this game is made? I don't know, and I'll bet none of YOU know either.

Yes, somebody fucked up and some people got a deal. Yes, it would be nice if it was 800 points, or 400 points, or even FREE! But are any of those numbers realistic? Based on sales projections, development costs, and other factors - maybe, just MAYBE, 1200 is the price it needs to sell for in order for Tozai, et al to make the money they set out to make.

Sorry to inject logic and reason into this thread.

Flame on.

This post MIGHT make sense, if it weren't for the fact that better games, such as the brilliant Bionic Commando: Rearmed, weren't priced at 800 MS points or $9.99 elsewhere.

@Jonathan,

See what you've gone and done? I was quite content to just read the comments on this one, but then you had to go an inject nonsense into the comments at various points, now I must comment... real good job there Jonathan.

Your post MIGHT make sense, if it weren't for the fact that opinions on which games are better are just that, a matter of opinion. To whit: Given the choice between BC:R (which I do own) and Load Runner (which i picked up at 2am for 800pts) I would gladly, happily take Load Runner over BC:R. Even at $5 more it's a better game; it's got online multiplayer (with some great co-op puzzling as well as vs play) and a level editor/ability to share your levels.

Yeah, I'm not debating the merits of different games. Some are great and worthy of their price, and some suck. My point is that there is all this talk of PROFITS and PRICE GOUGING when these people have no idea what they are talking about. What's the profit margin on a game like Lode Runner? 10%, 20%, 100%? How much does it cost MS to host these games, pay support people, developers, etc.

If you know that Tozai/MS just tripled their profits by increasing the price from 800 to 1200, then I *might* feel ripped off. But again, for all you know, 1150MSP might be the break-even point for this game.

If Lode Runner cost a lot of money, then the developers are retarded.

There's a reason why this game is so old, it's because the game is very easy to make. The AI is rudimentary at best (played the demo, got the enemies stuck in endless loops numerous times without even meaning to). The graphics are very basic. The levels are designed in a grid-system, so each one was probably "painted" with a very basic level editor. Etc.

If the game cost a lot to make, again, the developers need to find new jobs. When a game is already designed for you, that takes a tremendous amount of time and cost off their hands.

If the original were released at 400 MS points with Live support, I would have thought about it. If the remake cost 800, I probably would have gotten it. But at 1200, that's just silly. The developers overestimate the nostalgic value of this title.

I paid 1200 for Braid, and that's only because I felt that, in a lot of ways, Braid was an evolutionary step forward in gaming. But 1200 for a game I played over 15 years ago? No thanks.

1. Downloaded trial, noted 800 price point, wasn't sure about game so decided to give it another go later.
2. Came back later, noted 1200 price point, deleted game.

For a little while I thought MS may have gotten sensible after the poor show of Galactrix and the failure of Flock to even breach the top ten. How naive of me.

I loved Lode Runner but had no intention of spending 1200 points. When I saw the 800 point price I thought Joystiq must have been mistaken (or they changed their minds) and bought it. I would not have bought it at 1200 points.

Hahah Thats the only game I want on XBLA now......at least until they re-release Shining Force 3.

Major Nelson is giving away some codes for Lode Runner in a few minutes through Twitter if anyone is still trying to get the game for under $15.

This growing trend of pricing Live Arcade titles at 1200 points is taking the piss.

I don't care if it's MS, or a 3rd party dev who chose the price point, there's no way I'm forking out 1200 points for Lode Runner. Same went for Death Tank. (I'd have snapped them both up if they were 800!)

I used to buy quite a few Arcade titles, but that stopped when the pricing became exorbitant.

Don't know if an answer's been given already, but how can we register our displeasure directly to MS? Steps need to be taken to nip this shit in the bud.
