It's ThinkGeeking: Online retailer selling new Dreamcasts
We thought ThinkGeek's coolest items were the fake ones the company made up for April Fools Day. It has finally outdone its staff's own imagination, with Sega Dreamcasts. For $99.99, you can purchase a brand new North American Dreamcast, complete with cables, controllers, a web browser disc (version 2.0, so it includes Sega Swirl) and a demo disc. You're on your own for games, which means you may have to resort to putting used games in your new console. Not that it's really a problem to spend the tiny amount of money required to equip your system with a bunch of great games -- Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, Bangai-O, Space Channel 5 and Typing of the Dead come to mind immediately.
We're of the opinion that the gaming community would get along so much better if everybody just played some Dreamcast and remembered what fun was like. After the break, we remember Segata Sanshiro, and the noble sacrifice that granted the Dreamcast its life.

The only problem with that though is that you can get it for far cheaper on eBay used, and most used systems are functioning fine.
I should know, I bought one recently. ^_^
Dreamcast 4 ever!
Erwos @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:15AM
Mine actually died on me, so I wouldn't be too blase about the possibility.
Salain @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:21PM
Any way to figure out how many hours a DC has logged? I still play through Skies of Arcadia about once a year with my Dreamcast (purchased release day).
Duke @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:43PM
Funny thing is that I was just shopping for a new one last week and then got distracted. Awesome timing as I really miss that console.
Josh @ Apr 22nd 2009 8:40PM
Wow, you actually did make an off topic comment about Skies, Salain.
Skies deserves all attention it gets, however.
DC For Life @ May 3rd 2009 1:12PM
You can get almost any dreamcast game for $2.00 a disc at www.CopyClones.com
They have the largest selection of DC games anywhere!
Long Live The Dreamcast :)
arcsine @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:13AM
Woot! It's a premium to pay, but finding a VMU with a working screen and controls is pretty hard these days.
Martin Greenberg @ Apr 22nd 2009 11:26AM
I have one that works completely...anybody want it? I think it might still even have the Chao game from SA2 on it.
JuanDHexen @ Apr 22nd 2009 9:58AM
A masterpiece and ahead of it's time wish they still made games for it thought, I would buy them fast.
Mabui @ Apr 22nd 2009 9:56AM
Where was the bailouts when Sega was going under..
ArcticFox @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:28AM
Sega didnt go under they just chose not to make another console after they ended the Dreamcast life.
Mr Khan @ Apr 22nd 2009 11:32AM
Sega would have gone under faster if they hadn't killed the Dreamcast, and they did find their demise eventually, just in the form of a necessary merger.
offday @ Apr 22nd 2009 11:38AM
Sega aren't crooks. The government isn't interested in bailing out an honest hard working company. Plus there's the little minor detail that Sega makes video games, and the government hates video games.
samfish @ Apr 22nd 2009 11:55AM
"Sega aren't crooks."
They're essentially owned by the Yakuza (by way of Sammy Corp.), so...they kind of are.
Prof_Chaos @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:11PM
The US government is also unlikely to bail-out a Japanese company. Just Saying.
nightspark @ Apr 22nd 2009 9:35PM
The only reason why sega screwed up the DC was because they didn't include DVD. If they had i could be playing a DC2 now.
flanked @ Apr 22nd 2009 9:58AM
I hope this means what I think it means; a new division of Joystiq, Joystiq Dreamcast!
james @ Apr 22nd 2009 11:53AM
ya, for all that new dreamcast content aching for coverage.
Jerk Face @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:19PM
Your mom is.. aching... for coverage!
nuprotocol @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:26PM
@ Jerk Face
HAHAHAHAHAH, That was freaking great! lol
WINterfang @ Apr 22nd 2009 1:40PM
Jerk face WIN!! his display picture is what send the joke home to me.
samfish @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:01AM
My Dreamcast broke a couple of months ago ( :*( ), so I may just take them up on this.
Now if only I could scrounge up $99 bucks...
samfish @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:08AM
Also I would kill to have a new Space Channel 5 on the Wii.
It'd also have be soooooo awesome if the new House of the Dead had a bonus Typing of the Dead mode in it.
Blue_Falcon @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:01AM
This might sound like a dumb question but...How many 'new' Dreamcasts are left though? I'm assuming Sega is long done making them, so I'm imagining this being something of a limited stock item.
Obie (XBL: Obienator) @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:02AM
I loved my DreamCast a great little system that was ahead of it's time.
What's next? New N64 games?
Bowser Rogozhin @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:03AM
Dreamcast had Powerstone at launch; Xbox had Fusion Frenzy; the PS2 had Fantavision; and Gamecube had nothing. Yet the Dreamcast failed. This still disappoints me to the current day.
AirIntake @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:09AM
Uh, didn't the Xbox have Halo at launch?
Jack Tretton @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:24AM
Fantavision is awesome.
WINterfang @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:26AM
hahahahaha nop.
kids this day wow.
baby sea tuna @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:41AM
Gamecube had Rogue Squadron, afaik. That's actually what sold me on it.
Also had the underrated Luigi's Mansion, which is just begging for a Wii sequel.
Ghost_MH @ Apr 22nd 2009 1:32PM
Really...You'd take Fantavision over Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race, or Super Monkey Ball??? Also, Power Stone??? The game was great, but Sonic Adventure was awesome.
uncle jesse @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:51AM
Rogue Squadron was unreal and definitely was a launch, system seller for the GC.
BTW, IGN has a great article on the history of SEGA.
B3astofthe3ast @ Apr 22nd 2009 11:41AM
Um...Melee wasn't a launch title, but it came out before christmas that year, and all i remember after that was 2 straight years of playing nothing but melee...melee made the gcn for me.
Roto13 @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:22PM
Does it really matter if Melee came out right on launch day or like a week after?
AirIntake @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:08AM
Nice, but I already have 2.....My only problem with this is where the hell are you supposed to get games? These Dreamcast's are likely the newer ones that don't play burned CDs, and it's going to be fairly tough to eBay very many good games. Have fun with NFL 2k.
samfish @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:11AM
I got quite a few DC games off of eBay. The only one I find prohibitively expensive is Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Ikaruga. All the other Dreamcast games aren't *too* expensive.
At any rate, if you have a local mom 'n' pop videogame shop, I'd suggest trying there, too. There's 2 near me that both usually have a decent selection of Dreamcast games.
AirIntake @ Apr 22nd 2009 11:14AM
I've tried....eBay is mostly useless in Canada, and all the mom & pop store have.....is NFL 2k :)
K387 @ Apr 22nd 2009 11:38AM
Not sure where you're from, but in the Toronto/GTA area there's a couple of places including http://www.toyratt.com/, http://www.acgamesonline.com/ and there's another one out in Markham that I can't recall off the top of my head. Also, there's an online eBay store http://stores.shop.ebay.ca/PNP-GAMES that isn't too bad and if you buy a bunch of stuff, you can really save on shipping.
K387
AirIntake @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:07PM
I'm from Edmonton, so Toronto's a bit far, and Edmonton doesn't have many mom & pops left, as EB/Gamestop have taken over. I have had luck with getting games off of eBay (Genesis games), but I had to buy 15 at a time for the shipping to become reasonable from the US. But I hate ordering anything from outside of Canada, as I've had some VERY bad experiences with Customs on both sides. They're basically thieves as far as I'm concerned.
K387 @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:20PM
Well check out that ebay store. They aren't that bad. Fairly reasonable if you don't have many alternatives. Also, A&C online ship all over Canada and are pretty good about getting back to you about availability and shipping.

uncle jesse @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:54PM
@AirIntake:
Edmonton - me too! We most definitely are hurt'n Albertan's when it comes to trying to find older games or 'mom and pop' stores. Basically all we have is Best Buy, Future Shop, and EB Games to choose from.
j.howlett @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:10AM
i'm tempted. what modem does it come with.
j.howlett @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:15AM
shoot 56k. if it came with a vmu then i'd get it for sure, i'll think about it
MowDownJoe @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:10AM
ThinkGeek is now the best website on the planet. Sorry, Joystiq!
jason w @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:59PM
I love the Dreamcast.... I love the Dreamcast... Did I mention I love my Dreamcast.
Ghaleon @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:12AM
It's pretty easy to find used DCs at used shops still. Or eBay. Or the Shoryuken forums.
All DCs can play burned CDs, some of the later ones you just have to do a trick.
DC was prob the best console launch titles of all time, along w/ the SNES.
Yeah, DC games were actually fun. I just played through RE5, and gaming has def become about budgets and production value -- not so much on interaction or fun, because they don't sell now.
Saintgutfree @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:59AM
Couldn't agree more.
McWeen @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:12AM
9/9/99 Its thinking.
samfish @ Apr 22nd 2009 10:16AM
Now that you mention it, they really should have held their stock of these until 9/9/09 this year.
Christian @ Apr 22nd 2009 12:32PM
Are we going to have a dreamcast reunion?
